Saffle House Rental Photos and Description
5 bedrooms, 3 baths, sauna, own meadow, own canoos / rowboats, fishing permit
Holidays with friend(s), child(ren), grandma(s), dog(s)? Our 100 year old farmstead with creek is located right at the edge of the forest on a 60,000 sq. m. southern sloping property in southern Värmland. It has been renovated and cozily furnished. Even for 2 families you'll find everything here – books, towels, toys and games, fishing rods (and boats to match), maps and outing tips, bed linens, kitchen herbs and spices, big sheets for relaxing in the sauna – the only thing missing is a TV! The pots are large enough, all fit around the big dinner table, and (most) everything can be laundered in case of a ‘misshap’. But, if you feel activ, there's lots of exiting adventures waiting in the near and farther surrounds...
Nature: Pike, perch, trout, salmon ... best are self-caught fish! The boats are shored at different lakes every summer. Mushroom season starts in July (if you like cantarells). Blueberries, cranberries, currants, blackberries, raspberries, wild strawberries and apples from the garden are evenly shared with the moose and other forest inhabitants - naturally!. From right behind the house the Swedish wilderness stretches all the way into Norway; no human settlements lie between Torpbacken and the Glaskogen nature park of 28.000 hectares. You may meet a beaver, a black grouse or a capercailli, or even see an eagle or a lynx. Visiting our garden have been badger and snowhare, fox, heron, trane, raven, deer and moose - wolf und bear carefully stay away from people!
Well behaved dogs are welcome on Torpbacken; but note that Sweden has special regulations regarding pets. Please contact us for details.
Rooms: The main house (built 1904 with later additions) has 3 bedrooms (1 on the ground floor and 2 upstairs), living room, dining room, kitchen, hall, one bathroom and a separate WC, an utility room with sauna and separate shower and two terrasses facing south-west. The cottage (construction year unknown - part of it is the oldest building on the grounds) contains two bedrooms, a WC and shower room and a small hall.
Activities: Pay a visit to the tourist information in Säffle - it will provide you with many ideas, times and places for activities and adventures: draisine cycling, boat tours on the lake Vänern or the river Byälv, beaver and elk safaris, antique fairs and auctions, paintball trials, tree climbing, riding icelandic horses,... And don't forget the viking center in 'our' village Nysäter, combined with a stop in the cafe over the street, where information on local events and places of interest is provided happily. Come in May, when due to the late start everything is in bloom at the same time, or come in September and experience an Indian Summer en miniature, when cold nights and still warm days turn the birches and maple leafs bright red and yellow against the dark fir trees.
