HULA HUT FRONT OCEAN - PARADISE FOR LESS

We spent a wonderful week in early April at this house. The area was so quiet--day and night. We enjoyed watching the surf spray as the waves crashed along the shore and listening to the pounding of the surf as we fell asleep. Saw dolphins and whales from lanai on first morning. Honomalino Beach was a wonderful place with few people. Spent a half hour watching the spinner dolphins put on a show there mid-morning on Sunday and not another soul in sight. Melanie was great to work with and provided great directions and information on beaches, restaurants, and grocery stores. The house was very clean and comfortable for our family of 4 and came with Hawaiian mood music too. Our 5 and 10 yr old daughters really loved it, too. Well-stocked kitchen and bath (lots of sunblock). Boogie boards, beach umbrella, cooler, and beach mats made for pleasant trips to Ho'okena Beach. We appreciated not having the long list of clean-up chores that you can encounter at some rentals as we had to leave early to get to the airport. Nearest grocery stores are in Oceanview which is closer if you forget something, but less selection than stores in Captain Cook or Kona. A great base for a fantastic first trip to Hawaii. We hope we'll get back again someday and would happily stay at Hula Hut again. This house was an incredibly good deal.

We really enjoyed our 2 weeks stay at the Hula Hut. We saw too many Humpback whales to count, every night they were right out front playing and singing. It was truely amazing. The house was clean and stocked with anything you might need during your stay. The neighborhood is very nice and the people who live around are friendly. It appears most of the neighbors are older and retired. I would only warn that this house is a long distance from Kona, about 35 miles on a 25mph winding road. If you plan on spending a lot of time in the down town area or you like to spend your time at the beaches north of Kona such as Hapuna, this probably isnt the best option.

My husband and I stayed at Hula Hut for a week this past January. We loved the view and the way the waves pounded the shore across the road! The home was very cozy, with everything you need for your stay. As in many tropical settings, there are mosquitoes if you are outside when it is not very breezy (but that does not happen often). There is great snorkeling nearby, with a very scenic short hike after a few minute drive. Also, reasonable driving distance to the Green Sand Beach, as well as diving in South Kona. Since we had to work while we were there, dependable internet was mandatory -- and Hula Hut did not disappoint. I do recommend stocking up on groceries on your way in, as it is a bit of a drive to and from the home and the closest store. Overall, super enjoyable -- we loved being away from the crowds and in the midst of the beauty of the Hawaii coast.
