THE HOUSE and GROUNDS
'Beautiful and gracious' are the most common words used to describe Etoile de Mer - Star of the Sea.
Nestled in palm trees and lush vegetation on a .75 acre lot on old beachfront, Etoile de Mer offers the best of two worlds - authentic caribbean architecture and beautiful Taylor Bay.
Etoile is a perfect place to gather family members or friends to create island memories.
Light and spacious, this custom-designed villa is an oasis of privacy and beauty at Taylor Bay with tennis courts and lush gardens. People love Etoile so much, they come back year after year.
Lovingly cared for, the house has been completely upgraded since the owners purchased it in 2004 - interior and exterior painting, new roof, new hurricane shutters, reuphostering, new conch-shell countertops, Italian porcelain floors in kitchen and screened porch, new hardware, refinished wood floors, and a brand new kitchen with a pass through to the dining room.
A coral fern garden, irrigation of the many coconut trees and bougainvillea, and the addition of fruit trees - lime, guava, Barbados Cherry, and fig, all behind a seawall make Etoile de Mer feel like a Caribbean estate -and it is!
Justifiably, Etoile de Mer is known as one of the most beautiful and unique homes on the island.
The attention to detail and the ambiance of this island home make it feel like your home away from home rather than 'a rental'. Large enough for a group of eight with several gathering spots - the screened porch, the gazebo, the pool deck, the outside bar and barbecue, the verandas and the living room and dining room - the layout of the house also offers privacy to couples and individuals.
Just 100 steps away, the gentle tides and fine white sands of Taylor Bay offer you an opportunity to wade or swim, snorkel, kayak, walk barefoot on the beach or sit in a beach chair for hours. Many well-traveled guests believe that Taylor Bay is the most beautiful beach in the Caribbean.
They float on rafts from one side of the bay to the other on the gentle tide with book, coffee, or wine in hand. The more adventuresome use the 4 kayaks provided at the house and explore the Caribbean at will. The energetic, swim the width of the bay daily.
Shallow waters for 100 feet offer a perfect environment for children to play in the water safely. Children happily fill buckets and make sand castles while their parents enjoy a well-earned vacation.
Want to play tennis? Next to Etoile de Mer are private, complimentary tennis courts completely renovated in June 2012.
In the evening, visit one of the excellent international restaurants just minutes away (Providenciales was recently selected as one of the top-ten island dining destinations in the world), grill your favorite foods on the five-burner grill on the pool deck, or cook in the airy and light fully-equipped kitchen. After dinner, stroll the beach, watch cable television on a flat-screen TV, sit on the deck and look at the stars, listen to music, play a game, or simply enjoy the sound of privacy, knowing that you have another beautiful day to awake to.

Guestbook comments from the owner
We had an absolutely fabulous vacation and Etoile de Mer is a beautiful property. What a wonderful home you have and so close to Taylor Bay that you can walk the beach or kayak at any time. We had several sunset paddles and the conditions were perfect. You can see the care and attention to detail all around Etoile. The entire experience was outstanding. We remember fondly the birds, frogs, geckos and butterflies all around.
Thanks for all of the information to help make our vacation a success and for loaning us a piece of your paradise.
Margaret Rhyne, Owner
Dave and I first visited Provo from Colorado with friends in 2004. Completely enamored with Taylor Bay, we joined with a real estate agent and found Etoile de Mer, returning home a little in shock that we had bought a house and had never even considered owning a home in the Caribbean! That's what Taylor Bay can do to you!!
Since then our entire family has had a love affair with the house, Taylor Bay, and Provo.
Our daughter, Megan, got married at Grace Bay in October 2005. She and our other two children, Aaron and Brianna, return annually with friends.
Our first grandchild, Cooper, was christened on Taylor Bay in November 2008 and our second grandson, Jack, was christened on the beach in November 2012.
Dave and I go to the house every fall and spring to make sure everything is in good shape and we spend at least two weeks at the house every January. We have developed friendships with islanders and feel like we have a second life in the Caribbean.
We try to keep the rental rate reasonable because we feel blessed to own such a beautiful home and want to share it with others, which is why Etoile de Mer never feels like a rental.
Dave is an architect and we are always doing things to upgrade the house and keep it in prime condition. A recent renter wrote, 'Our son is an interior architect and her loved the design of the house and the quality of the building materials.'
Etoile de Mer has the best of all choices - it rests on old beach front so it's just 100 yards from Taylor Bay beach but it has lush vegetation and privacy that wouldn't be possible if it were just 40 yards closer. Staying at Etoile feels like you're staying at a private luxury resort with the beach, tennis courts, kayaks, and the fresh water pool.
Our family loves to gather at the house and create memories. The architecture of the house gives us a true Caribbean experience. We sit under the gazebo and laugh. We walk on the beach every morning to greet the day. We float across the bay in rafts. Our grandson plays at will and safely in the clear crystalline waters of Taylor Bay. In the evenings, we gaze at stars from the pool deck.
