THE HOUSE and GROUNDS
'Beautiful and gracious' are the most common words used to describe Etoile de Mer - Star of the Sea.
Nestled in palm trees and lush vegetation on a .75 acre lot on old beachfront, Etoile de Mer offers the best of two worlds - authentic caribbean architecture and beautiful Taylor Bay.
Etoile is a perfect place to gather family members or friends to create island memories.
Light and spacious, this custom-designed villa is an oasis of privacy and beauty at Taylor Bay with tennis courts and lush gardens. People love Etoile so much, they come back year after year.
Lovingly cared for, the house has been completely upgraded since the owners purchased it in 2004 - interior and exterior painting, new roof, new hurricane shutters, reuphostering, new conch-shell countertops, Italian porcelain floors in kitchen and screened porch, new hardware, refinished wood floors, and a brand new kitchen with a pass through to the dining room.
A coral fern garden, irrigation of the many coconut trees and bougainvillea, and the addition of fruit trees - lime, guava, Barbados Cherry, and fig, all behind a seawall make Etoile de Mer feel like a Caribbean estate -and it is!
Justifiably, Etoile de Mer is known as one of the most beautiful and unique homes on the island.
The attention to detail and the ambiance of this island home make it feel like your home away from home rather than 'a rental'. Large enough for a group of eight with several gathering spots - the screened porch, the gazebo, the pool deck, the outside bar and barbecue, the verandas and the living room and dining room - the layout of the house also offers privacy to couples and individuals.
Just 100 steps away, the gentle tides and fine white sands of Taylor Bay offer you an opportunity to wade or swim, snorkel, kayak, walk barefoot on the beach or sit in a beach chair for hours. Many well-traveled guests believe that Taylor Bay is the most beautiful beach in the Caribbean.
They float on rafts from one side of the bay to the other on the gentle tide with book, coffee, or wine in hand. The more adventuresome use the 4 kayaks provided at the house and explore the Caribbean at will. The energetic, swim the width of the bay daily.
Shallow waters for 100 feet offer a perfect environment for children to play in the water safely. Children happily fill buckets and make sand castles while their parents enjoy a well-earned vacation.
Want to play tennis? Next to Etoile de Mer are private, complimentary tennis courts completely renovated in June 2012.
In the evening, visit one of the excellent international restaurants just minutes away (Providenciales was recently selected as one of the top-ten island dining destinations in the world), grill your favorite foods on the five-burner grill on the pool deck, or cook in the airy and light fully-equipped kitchen. After dinner, stroll the beach, watch cable television on a flat-screen TV, sit on the deck and look at the stars, listen to music, play a game, or simply enjoy the sound of privacy, knowing that you have another beautiful day to awake to.
No Smoking, please. Children are welcome. Rental price includes airport greeting and a mid-week cleaning. FREE HIGH SPEED WIRELESS INTERNET. Note that dates marked on the Availability Calendar represent NIGHTS that are not available.
Dave and I first visited Provo from Colorado with friends in 2004. Completely enamored with Taylor Bay, we joined with a real estate agent and found Etoile de Mer, returning home a little in shock that we had bought a house and had never even considered owning a home in the Caribbean! That's what Taylor Bay can do to you!!
Since then our entire family has had a love affair with the house, Taylor Bay, and Provo.
Our daughter, Megan, got married at Grace Bay in October 2005. She and our other two children, Aaron and Brianna, return annually with friends.
Our first grandchild, Cooper, was christened on Taylor Bay in November 2008 and our second grandson, Jack, was christened on the beach in November 2012.
Dave and I go to the house every fall and spring to make sure everything is in good shape and we spend at least two weeks at the house every January. We have developed friendships with islanders and feel like we have a second life in the Caribbean.
We try to keep the rental rate reasonable because we feel blessed to own such a beautiful home and want to share it with others, which is why Etoile de Mer never feels like a rental.
Dave is an architect and we are always doing things to upgrade the house and keep it in prime condition. A recent renter wrote, 'Our son is an interior architect and her loved the design of the house and the quality of the building materials.'
Margaret Rhyne, Owner purchased this house in 2004
Etoile de Mer has the best of all choices - it rests on old beach front so it's just 100 yards from Taylor Bay beach but it has lush vegetation and privacy that wouldn't be possible if it were just 40 yards closer. Staying at Etoile feels like you're staying at a private luxury resort with the beach, tennis courts, kayaks, and the fresh water pool.
Our family loves to gather at the house and create memories. The architecture of the house gives us a true Caribbean experience. We sit under the gazebo and laugh. We walk on the beach every morning to greet the day. We float across the bay in rafts. Our grandson plays at will and safely in the clear crystalline waters of Taylor Bay. In the evenings, we gaze at stars from the pool deck.
We spent a beautiful and wonderful week here celebrating our friend's 60th birthday. What a lovely house!! We loved the porch and the beach is simply amazing. We have never seen such beautiful water! The house is comfortable with every amenity possible. We loved it here!! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

My family came from the UK , Toronto and Vancouver to help celebrate my 80th birthday and what a celebration it was. None of us had ever been to the Turks & Caicos before , but having looked at pictures on the website, we were really looking forward to our holiday there and especially at Etoile de Mer . After a long wait at immigration , we were met by Julien , and taken to the house which looked every bit as lovely as the photos we had seen on the VRBO website. We were hot and very thirsty and were so pleased to have one of the welcome beers that were provided in the fridge , along with bottles of water. The inside of the house was sparkling with fresh flowers everywhere and a huge bowl of fresh fruit. It was such a nice welcome. The house was everything that we had expected : well equipped kitchen, lovely sitting areas and dining room, beautiful bedrooms with massive showers, and plenty of outdoor seating both beside the pool and under the gazebo , complete with hammock. We wanted for nothing. The tennis courts were well used by us , as were the kayaks , and Taylor Bay has to be the prettiest bay on the island which we felt was all "ours" ! We had quite a few meals in and used the BBQ a lot , but we also had some meals out and loved the Full Moon Pig Roast at Bay Bistro which coincided with my birthday and the staff brought out a beautiful cake whilst singing "Happy Birthday" to me. We also had Sunday Brunch there which at $15 a head was superb value . Las Brisas was on our doorstep so we had few meals there, also Da Conch Shack and Bugaloos , which was our favourite. All in all , a very relaxing holiday with wonderful memories.
I just spent 7 nights at Etoile De Mer with my wife and two children and all I can say is WOW!! The house is absolutely amazing and the beach was breath taking and perfect for the kids. We had an absolute blast!!! Memories made that will last a lifetime . We booked a deep sea fishing trip that was great and we caught a bunch of wahoo that we grilled for a couple of nights at the house. The house is fully stocked with anything you would need to execute the perfect family vacation. We had some great times out at some local spots “Da Conch Shack, Bugaloos, Las Brisas, Coyaba, Coco Bistro) and a great jet skiing tour. The island is phenomenal!! The whole trip was an absolute home run in no small part to the accommodating owners who were gracious enough to open their home to us. We very much look forward to returning some day.
Wow! What an amazing vacation! From the moment we arrived to the car rental agency to the hugs from the cleaning crew on the way out. We loved it! Traveling with super young kiddos (18 months, TWO 3 year old boys and a 7 year old girl) is not always a "vacation" for the parents. However, the home is perfect for the kids and the parents to relax around the pool and beach.
I can NOT believe the jackpot we hit with this beach. We walked at least one full football field out from shore with the kiddos searching for starfish and small shells. Although the home isn't right on the beach, its a super quick and close walk. We would load up the kayaks with our beach toys and chairs for the day and set up shop. We ended up meeting some friends of the owners who told us to walk down the beach about 200 yards as the water gets clearer the further down you go. There are also a few trees that provide shade. We would come and go through out the day and left our items out there. We never felt like they would be stolen. Great family beach with very few people but just enough to provide some fun to meet other families from around the world.
A great hot spot is Turk Berry! We went there three times! Las Brisas was ok...like most of Turk's its a bit pricey. We may have hit it at a wrong time with restless kiddos. Good burgers and very close to the home. We had pizza delivered one evening...we just called up Julian (who ALWAYS picked up the phone) and had a couple of pies with in the hour.
We hit up the Aldi on the second day and spent about $300 on a basic week supply of food. Yes, the food is pricey, but from what we had read before we came we thought it would be worse. Altogether (with a few more runs to the store and the fish guy in the red truck) we probably spent about $500 on food. We purchased beer at the TC Crystal. Its the best price for beverages. You can also purchase "light" beer (unlike the dark amber) in cans at this store. The lobster from the Red Truck was AMAZING!! Fresh and tasty and $60 for four LARGE tails. What a huge deal! There is also a boat that will come up close to shore and sell fresh caught fish too.
We loved the vacation!! What a thrill! We had intentions of doing a few extra side trips with the 7 year old but always had sunshine and pool time so we never had time to squeeze it in. Plus, we had Turk Berry so we never needed anything else!
Thank you for everything!
Celebrating my husbands 60th Birthday with my whole family at Etoile de Mer was incredible. The home was beautiful, spacious & very comfortable for everyone. Loved that everyone had their own full bathroom. Our days & nights at the beach will be memories we hold dear to our hearts. (A quick path from the house takes you directly to the beach & you pass by the tennis courts) Our pictures of the sunsets are so beautiful. We had a private chef Becky Carlson come one evening for dinner. I highly recommend her. The food was delicious, the presentation professional & I thank Becky for adding such a wonderful night to our vacation. Another great day was our adventure on The Reef Peepers. Snorkeling, Dancing, Conch & Iguana Island. It was all a great island experience. My family & I will never forget this amazing vacation together. It was the perfect combination of relaxation & adventure for my family. My 2 1/2yr old grand daughter loved every minute of it, especially the beach & pool. We spent every morning having breakfast on the screened in porch/area. The weather was perfect everyday & I loved listening to the palm tress sway in the night. When we got back home to our cold New England weather we all were having withdrawals & wanted to return. Thank You Margaret for allowing us to stay in your Beautiful home.
What a wonderful vacation we had at Etoile de Mer this fall! My husband and I enjoyed a week's stay along with another couple and their eight year old daughter. We made the most of the location, venturing to the beach at Taylor Bay that was only steps away to watch the sunset every night. We took advantage of the kayaks that were available to us and enjoyed use of the pool, large kitchen, and patio area nearly every day. What a wonderful alternative to staying in a hotel. With every amenity available, we stayed in a few nights and cooked ourselves. We highly recommend this home to anyone seeking a relaxing, beautiful home to retreat to for their next vacation!
We had the chance to stay at Etoile de mer for a week in early May 2014.Travelling with 2 kids (5 and 7) and the grandparents, we were hoping to find a great place to create special memories for my son's birthday. Thank you Margaret, everything was beyond expectations. The house is exactly as shown in the pictures (no, it's even better!); very large, immaculately clean, sunny, breezy ( we never put on the A/C), lovely furniture, nice TV area, very comfortable beds, a real big kitchen with all the appliances needed, private space for every members of the family and...of course, the great outdoor and the proximity of the sea!
Taylor Bay is one of the most beautiful beach I ever seen in the Caribbean and it's only a few steps away from the house. You walk 2 minutes in palm trees and lush vegetation, and just across the beautiful tennis courts, this is it ! Fine white sands, shallow waters perfect for my 2 kids safety (and my not so brave mother!) and the perfect turquoise sea with barely no one around. Unlike other beaches we visited, Taylor Bay is not crowded at all. We loved the complimentary kayak and paddle and all the pool toys.
The perfect ambiance on the gazebo provides lots of shades, we read and relax while the kids had fun in the hammock and then jumped in the wonderful pool (200 times a day!). This set up made this vacation a true success.
We went several times in Grace Bay - ate at wonderful restaurants, some fancy and pricey-some more casual and kids friendly (Margaret left us a very detailled list) and we simply loved to drive around the island and discover beaches. But, at the end of the day, the kids were begging to come back home...that is exactly how we felt at Étoile de mer. Home away from home, WITHOUT the cold, the rain and completely stressfree! My stepdad said he felt 10 years younger after a few days here!
We are used to travel in 5 stars hotels (we did Club med, Beaches, Dreams, Ritz, etc) and this was our first experience in a private Villa. Ok, you have to cook a little...but we loved it...everyone can do what he wants at is own pace, it's private, safe, beautiful gardens all around and so quiet. Now, we are thinking about our next vacation and want to find a Villa as perfect as this one!!!
Thank you so much Margaret, Dave and Dinesh for your help and all the informations provided. We are so grateful for this truly special experience.
See you soon!
