Beautiful decor! This completely renovated cottage was featured in Rapid River Magazine, Nov. 2002. Viennese antiques, chandeliers and international artwork heighten the European ambiance. Owner lived in Vienna, Austria and is multi-lingual. A 1,000 sq. ft., multi-layered deck offers a partial mountain view and large backyard lawn with two octagons incorporating the mature trees, a third octagon holds sunken 'Nordic' hot tub. Indoor jacuzzi in marble master bathroom, Kohler fixtures. Linens hand-ironed, spa towels provided. Quiet established neighborhood two blocks from lovely Lake Tomahawk and .55 mi. walking path. Near golf course with its incredible 'Seven Sister Mountains' views. Artistic kitchen with great appliances. Complementary goodies:Wine or bubbly on ice, fresh eggs, coffee assortments, bagels, muffins, etc. Minutes to quaint downtown Black Mountain and Red Rocker Inn where John Kennedy Jr. stayed. 20 minutes to Asheville or Biltmore Estate.

The European Art Cottage is two blocks from picturesque Lake Tomahawk, 15 minutes to Asheville. The 'Seven Sisters' Mountain Range is visible from the lake. The mountains are beautiful year round. There are many concerts and exhibitions in Black Mountain and Asheville, including symphonies, opera, blue grass and jazz. The European Art Cottage is full of original Viennese, Greek, Hungarian, German, Polish, Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Yugoslavian art, pictures and sculpture. Tiffany lamps and antiques contribute to a very special ambience.

A month of calm, beauty and inspiration

I stayed at the European Art Cottage for the entire month of August, 2009. A friend of mine joined me for the month and my husband and one of my sisters visited. We all had a wonderful time. The house is filled with artwork, beautiful Tiffany style lighting, chandeliers and much more. The kitchen had everything we needed and I loved the convection oven. The master bedroom with ensuite bathroom was amazingly comfortable and the backyard deck is a dream, including a great hot tub and magnificent sunsets. The living room is perfect for relaxing and catching some classic movies on TMC. Patrice was always exceptionally helpful and gave us recommendations for things to do and for restaurants.

The cottage is within easy walking distance to Lake Tomahawk and its trail around the lake. The Black Mountain golf course is very challenging (with one Par Six!) and is also minutes away. My husband loved the course. Black Mountain has excellent restaurants and interesting stores. The Seven Sisters Gallery should not be missed! Ashville is only a 20 minute ride and the Blue Ridge Parkway is easily accessible. We went to Chimney Rock State Park and the Arboretum, enjoyed the Black Mountain Sourwood Festival, and couldn't get enough of the inexpensive live music at the White Horse. We went to see a play at SART about Thomas Wolfe and toured the Thomas Wolfe home in Ashville. We went in search of the Black Mountain College, formed by Germans leaving Germany before World War II, and found it (the property is now a boys' camp in a sylvan setting). Although the college closed in the 1950s, it had a lasting effect on American art and dance throughout the country. Art is in the air in this part of the country.

Great place to stay, great location, so much to see and do in the midst of astounding natural beauty. I would recommend to friends and relatives and hope to return myself.

Beautiful Home!

My husband and I stayed 4 nights at this beautiful spot. It was very clean, fresh, and full of every amenity. The owner is exceptionally helpful and kind. The king bed was very comfy and all rooms were well maintained. I would highly recommend this vacation home to others. Because the house is in Black Mountain, it allows you to walk to the lake, go to restaurants and/or shops easily and drive to a variety of streams for fishing. There are plenty of books on area attractions located at the house.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Romantic Getaway
