Folly Beach Family Retreat
The home offered wonderful space. We appreciated the hard wood floors throughout, the laundry facilities and the numerous decks. The living room was large enough for all 7 of us to have game night every evening. There wasn't a dining room, but we enjoyed the screen porch which had a large dining table. We loved having the pool and used it every afternoon while the babies napped. We never used the hot tub. The location was OK, hidden in a quiet cul de sac, but across from the beach. (a 3 minute walk) Plus, that part of the beach was quiet and not very crowded. I do think I would have preferred to have been on the beach, but we wanted a pool and could not find a home on the beach with a pool. We walked into town several times, about a 10-15 minute walk. (pushing strollers) It is a lovely walk on the beach.
There were 5 bedrooms, all nice sized. The 3rd floor was actually the nicest. It is a huge room, nicely decorated with it's own bathroom. Perfect for the kids.
The only negatives: the beds were horrible, felt and actually sounded?? as if there was straw in the mattresses. The pillows were worse. Both need to be replaced! The range was quite dirty, greasy oil screen in the center. The dishwasher rack was off it's track. The outside courtyard was really dirty when we arrived, we cleaned it up. 2 of the pool chairs were broken. The blinds in the 1st floor bedroom were broken. The home was clean, not impeccable. It needs a fresh coat of paint inside. The furniture was comfortable, but stained. When we have stayed in other VRBO homes, there was always a welcoming basket with wine, fruit, local features, letter from the owners, etc. This one didn't have one. There was a notebook with some local information. The owner never called or came by when we were there.
We had a wonderful time in Folley Beach. The beach was fabulous, no drop off. The town was delightful with great restaurants. Wonderful food, very affordable. We enjoyed Charleston, a fabulous city with incredible history!
Our family enjoyed a wonderful fishing trip. The best dining experience was the Low Country Seafood Broil we enjoyed with The Smoking Pot caterers. It was beyond delicious, over 60 fresh crabs, followed by fresh shrimp, potato and corn on the cob broil. Key lime pie for dessert! All prepared at home, served and cleaned up by 2 wonderful young men.
It was the perfect get away week for our family. Laid back, relaxing, perfect weather, great food and a very livable, lovely home.
