A Little Bit of Heaven

We recently returned from our second visit to Lubec and this lovely little cottage. Our first trip was this summer and we loved it so much that when our anniversary rolled around, we knew that this was where we wanted to spend it, so made arrangements to go up for a long weekend.
The cottage is, for us, just perfect. The kitchen offers all the necessities. We find that for the 2 of us, the space is just right. It is clean, cozy and offers a great view. The location also is a big plus. There are 2 restaurants within sight of the cottage. It’s an easy walk into town where you can pick something up at the IGA or rent a movie at the Quick Stop. There are a few little shops, a Post Office and library, as well as several other restaurants. Walk to the other end of town and watch the seals in the water between Lubec and Campobello Island. One of the local pubs - Annabell’s, I think, offers live music.
There is a beach in front of the cottage, which for some, might be a bit of a challenge getting down the incline. However, it’s worth it as it’s a great place to look for beach treasures. Another great beach - Mowry Beach, is located on the side of Lubec that faces Campobello. You can walk for miles on this beach and it’s looks like a great place to swim or spend the day.
During the summer months, there is a small ferry service that runs from Campobello Island to Deer Island. (For the 2 of us plus our SUV, it cost $21) From there, you can drive to the other side of Deer Island and board a free ferry to mainland Canada, where you can spend the day exploring St. Andrews by the Sea or head towards St. John. The ferry rides are a lovely way to spend a beautiful sunny day. Seals and dolphins are plentiful on the journey. Also, on Campobello, East Quoddy Lighthouse offers great views and lots of whale, dolphin, eagle and seal watching. Also, when on Campobello, visit Herring Cove Beach where the sand is black and the rocks are beautiful.
During our stays, we have met the nicest people (including Ed and Linda, the owners of the cottage.) We felt so much at home here. Every where you go, people wave or stop to chat. On our second visit, people remembered us and welcomed us back.
The only negative about our visits is that we had to leave!
