We didn't want to leave . . beautiful, cozy cabin!

My girlfriend and I stayed 4 nights at the Meardon cabin on Rangeley Lake. After much searching Home Away, I settled on the cabin because of the looks, positive reviews and reasonable price - I don't believe I could have done better. The owner is friendly and thorough, providing us with a good deal of information about the cabin and the Rangeley area - thanks David! The cabin itself is somewhat secluded (just what we wanted) and sits about dead center on the shore of the north side of the lake. The inside is pleasant & clean, with a covered porch with generous windows, a small couch and sitting area just inside, a small kitchen with just about everything you'd need (though we couldn't find a pizza cutter) & a bedroom with a high, wooden ceiling + one large bed and one smaller bed. The beach outside is clean with a rocky floor - perfect for swimming or just sitting beside in the provided double-chair. There are a couple picnic tables, an additional chair & a nice fire pit (all of which we used). If you do decide to rent the place (and you ought to) be sure to go to The Gingerbread House for breakfast - we went two days in a row & it was excellent. I can't say enough good things about the cabin and the experience - well worth it, we would certainly visit again!

PERFECT LAKESIDE GETAWAY FOR TWO

  • 5 of 5
Loon Cottage was everything we'd hoped. The property was immaculate, comfortable, and well-maintained, but rustic enough to feel like a real getaway. The fully-enclosed porch is the perfect place to start a chilly Maine morning gazing out over the lake and soaking in the quiet with a cup of hot coffee, and the perfect spot for a romantic sunset dinner. The small kitchen is functional and funky, just the way a camp kitchen should be. We wish we could have stayed much longer!

Thank you to the Meardons and to the various deer, fox, fireflies, and loons who kept us company during our stay.

What a personal retreat spot!

  • 5 of 5
Despite a family emergency that delayed me by three days, the flu and three days of rain, this is undoubtedly the most relaxing place I have vacationed in many years! The little kitchen is well equipped for cooking, the waterfront was the perfect place to relax, read and recuperate. The location right on the waterfront is gorgeous and my outdoor entertainment for the week was a herd of deer and a flock of wild turkeys. This is a perfect place to hunker down and recharge one's "batteries!" And the cabin is cozy, just rustic enough and immaculately clean. Thank you for your graciousness, David. I will return soon and often!

Cozy log cabin on the lake!

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon, and we had a wonderful time! The cabin is right on the lake, and we loved spending the afternoons reading on our private dock. We also did lots of hiking on several good trails in the area, including the Appalachian Trail. Smalls Falls, just a short drive down Rt 4, was also very impressive, though more crowded. For outdoor lovers, there are several places within a few miles to rent canoes, kayaks, or fishing equipment very reasonably. Loon Cottage is right next to a public golf course that looked well groomed and gorgeous. Every time we drove by, I lamented the fact that my wife doesn't play and so I couldn't try it out. The scenic byway that runs right through Rangeley is full of magnificent views! Between that and all the moose (we saw an average of one per day), make sure to have a camera handy at all times! And if you stay here, don't leave without visiting the outdoor ice cream stand in Rangeley for delicious Gifford's ice cream!

The cabin itself is a comfortable, cozy living space for a couple or small family. We enjoyed literally having our own log cabin for the week. It was slightly more rustic than we expected, but the only real inconvenience was that we couldn't drink the tap water. Fortunately, a bevy of gallon bottles was provided and there is a nearby public spring, so it wasn't really a problem at all. For vacationers wanting a cozy, quiet living space in a beautiful location at a great price, I highly recommend Loon Cottage.

Owner's Response: We're glad you enjoyed your time at Loon Cottage. It certainly is a special spot. The rock jetty with short walkway and pebbly beach area is actually a shared access with Loon and the five other cabins in the compound. When no one else is around it can feel like your own private paradise!

Loon Cottage on Rangeley Lake

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I were looking for a nice peaceful place to spend our honeymoon. With Fall aproaching we delayed our trip to coincide with the beautiful foliage we had only seen in pictures. We are from California and there are 2 foliage colors here, green and brown. As lovers of nature Maine seemed perfect.

A Google search for cabins for rent lead us to HomeAway and Loon Cottage. It is a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom cabin about 10 feet away from the water's edge of Rangeley Lake and looked perfect for us. My wife and I were very pleased with everything and were less than thrilled when it was time to come home. It is only a matter of time before we return to this area and would love the opportunity to stay at Loon Cottage again.

100% What We Were Looking For!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I were looking for a comfortable, peaceful cabin on a lake and were absolutely delighted with our stay at Loon Cabin. The Loon is very well taken care of, and we had everything we needed for lovely week alone on the lake. Grill worked, loons sang at night; the lake was beautiful and quiet. The town of Rangley has a great little bookstore and a few very other places for shoppers. Anyone who likes to hike or fish will love the area. You'll find some good options for restaurants and a terrific bowling alley with pool tables, etc. for a rainey evening. Nearby golf course is wonderful with an Inn that looked like a terrific place to stay. (We chose to cook at home!) Lots of lovely scenic hikes and bike rides to take. Thanks to the Meardons for a treat - we loved it - and for being responsive owners!
