Photos and Description of the Squam Lake vacation house rental
4BR Lakefront Vacation Rental Holderness, New Hampshire USA

The four-bedroom and three-bath, lakefront home on Squam Lake is a large and gracious two-story cabin, built in 1937 in warm camp style. If you've seen the movie 'On Golden Pond', you will recognize beautiful Squam Lake. This camp has all the charm of Henry and Katherine's cabin; and it's bigger -- with all the comforts of modern family living.

The shoreline has a sandy area that's excellent for swimming or star-gazing in the quiet cove. There's a roomy dock and swim float anchored offshore. The generous setting is perfect for family times and restful rejuvenation.

Happy sounds of family gatherings will resound from the natural pine walls, ceilings, and hardwood floors. At the center of the big living room there is comfortable seating around the brick fireplace. Everyone loves to gather here. Built-in storage bins have games and craft supplies.

The recently added great room, with its native American decor and cathedral ceiling, can function as a family room, den, an office, or a guest space. The desk area looks out to pines, the dock, Squam lake, and islands. Adjacent to the great room is a large first floor bath with shower.

Firewood is stacked in neat piles next to the woodshed. Once the fire is crackling, the grand oak dining table (made from the property's own fallen timber during the hurricane of '38) is THE hub for family dinners and games.

In the renovated kitchen, two sinks and two refrigerators make meal preparation fun. There's plenty of room for the hustle and bustle, while snacking and talking. The kitchen is fully stocked with kitchen utensils and multiple sets of china and glassware.

In addition to four full bedrooms on the second floor (two queen and one twin room look out to the lake, and one twin room looks out to the pines), there are other sleeping options.

An additional twin bed on the screened-in porch is a moon-watcher's joy. For the kids, a sleeping loft for three looks over two queen pull-outs in the great room. Another queen pull-out provides for fireside sleeping in the living room. And Junior Manor, a separate outdoor guest cabin, has a queen-size bed and a bunk bed for kids. You can fall asleep to the loons on Squam Lake. We provide all linens, pillows, blankets, and towels. A laundry room is adjacent to the downstairs bathroom, with a washer, dryer, and storage for beach towels.

Enjoy looking out from your bedroom at the water lapping against the shore. Enjoy settling down in Adirondack chairs on the dock -- or in the rocking chair on the screened-in porch. Put your feet up on the large outdoor deck, which is great for a buffet lunch. Look out to Squam Lake and islands -- or down to the dock, to watch the kids playing. Then look up to the tall white pines that are frequented by hummingbirds.

Listen to the loons under a full moon.

In the morning, take a canoe ride and watch the sunrise over shimmering Squam Lake. Daytime is for sunning and swimming in the clear waters. Take a boat ride or go fishing -- and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of jewel-like Squam Lake. Next, curl up with a book on the floating raft.

A five-minute drive down the road to the trail for Rattlesnake Mountain provides a glorious view and moderate hike. At sunset, get out on the lake and see the loons and the incredible colors.

A wooden walkway from the main house takes you mere steps away to the expansive floating dock. A canoe and sailboat are available for your use. A raft is anchored about 50 yards off the dock, and is great for swimming and diving. Or it's a haven of floating tranquility -- to get away from it all (or THEM all!).

Notes: This home is exceptionally well equipped, beautifully maintained and gracious...there is a very good laundry room, big kitchen with two refrigerators, very nice towels nice linens, table mats, great sets of dishes (loon lake theme) and many blankets, house fans, videos, games, puzzles, art supplies, beach towels, toys, inflatable water play equipment for kids, water skis, paddles and fishing gear. The dining room holds extended families; kids can eat at a separate table or on the screened porch. People who visit talk about how ideal it is for families to be together in front of the beautiful fireplace or in the separate den and yet enjoy one another without being on top of one another ...three big outside places to hang out ..include the screened porch, the deck, and the large dock, right on the lake with sandy beachfront. or you can swim or canoe out to the private raft which is moored in front of the cabin. Unfortunately we cannot welcome your dogs, due to many neighborhood animals.

Multi Generational Family Vacation

5 of 5
Submitted: October 10, 2011 Stayed: September 2011
This was the perfect vacation home for our multi generational family vacation. We had family members coming in from New Orleans, New York, Waterville Valley and Kittery Point, ME - the owners of the home provided great directions to the property and despite the unfamiliar surroundings there was not one problem. Upon arrival, we found the accomodations absolutely perfect. The layout of the house was perfect for large family dinners, yet separate enough for each family to gather for individual times of creating memories. The dock and lake access was wonderful for our youngest family members right on up to our most senior family members. Everything we needed in the way of linens, dishes, pots and pans - was right there at the home! The proximity to the township was very convenient for anything we needed in the way of groceries, with a farm stand on the way to the cabin! The owners did everything they said they would do, which is a rarity in this virtual world! The key arrived in a timely fashion, we found the home clean and ready for our family, the maintenance man came exactly at the right time to take the garbage, and the housekeeper was very accomodating! I would highly recommend this home for your next family get away because the owners know the value of gathering as a family because it seems they have been doing it for generations!
