This is one of the few remaining sections of Florida that are unspoiled by developers. We experience true Florida life here.
What can I say? Another great stay. We stayed for 4 nights for part of our spring break. Our 10 year old twins LOVED the cottage, the outdoors & had a great time. We brought our corn hole game, baseball gloves, flashlights, hotdog & marshmallow roasting sticks & had the BEST time. Day trips to Mayo city park, LaFayette Blue Springs were lovely. We had LaFayette to ourselves. Springs were browned out there & at Fanning Springs so no swimming there. We went further down one day with a cooler & picnic to Manatee Springs-kids had a blast swimming in the spring run. We grilled out, baked a lasagna, grilled out some more, did fire pit every night, ate on the deck & had tons of fun. I HIGHLY recommend if your children/family are "outdoorsy" kinds of folks. It was nice to finally meet Cassie after a couple of years of renting her properties. We are still hoping to be able to find a time to rent the beach house. :) This property is centrally located to many of the local springs if people are interested in diving. We sure did have a great time exploring the area with our children. If you are on a romantic get away, we highly recommend The Great Outdoors Restaurant for a special lunch or dinner. We did not go on this trip, as we had kids with us, but it was a recommendation from Cassie that was great. The beds are so comfortable-we called the master bedroom bed "the cloud" as the mattress topper was heavenly. So different from our Cub Scout/Girl Scout/softball/baseball busy lives. We slowed down & enjoyed some family time at the river. :)
We spent a week in this cottage and while the weather didn't cooperate with us, we had a marvelous time. River was some 8 feet above it's normal level and each morning we would go out to see how high it had risen. We didn't get to use the kayaks but hope to return and rectify that. Beds were comfortable and all the kitchen utensils you would need were available. Even a piano which my husband made use of. Mayo was just down the road with a nice little grocery store and excellent meat. Folder in the cottage with lots of ideas and suggestions of places to visit.
We have rented from Cassie several times now. We have rented her Steinhatchee Landing cottage for a mid-summer romantic getaway (despite an incoming tropical storm, my husband & I had a TERRIFIC time at her well-appointed cottage there). We rented this river cottage last February (Feb 2013) on a long weekend for a belated anniversary celebration. It was just my husband & I then-cozy upstairs living area, downstairs with a washing machine & dryer, place to park & LOTS of natural spaces outdoors for exploring. We enjoyed our weekend away, but were very much looking forward to coming back with our crazy-for-the-outdoors twins. We decided that we would spend the first part of our spring break here this coming March/April. We enjoy going away for the first part of spring break & then having some time at the end to enjoy being at home during "off" time. There is a fire ring & several multi-level decks. It should be a good time for our family. The nearby city park has HUGE trees that grown right to the ground with a decent playground. If it is warm, the nearby Layfayette Blue Spring State Park has a spring run suitable for kiddos to tube in & play in the water-clean restrooms & nice picnic areas round out the time there. This cottage has a lovely master bedroom with a king sized bed & a perfect place for reading. 2nd bedroom is smaller, but comfortable. Firewood available for the outdoor fire ring. TV in the living room for viewing if the weather does not cooperate. We load up on groceries before we go-planning on cooking out on the charcoal grill, enjoying the decks & letting our kids run & play. I think we may bring our screen house to set up on the ground so we enjoy being outside if the bugs are busy. We are REALLY looking forward to our 2nd stay at the river cottage. Always know that we are getting a quality rental from Cassie. :) Hoping to work out a stay at the beach house sometime soon!
We recently spent a long week-end in this cozy cottage and it was so relaxing and absolutely beautiful. The cabin was clean and well cared for and the view from the decks was breath taking. Even though the river was very high and the current was very strong it was still wonderful to just sit and watch the boats go down the river. The owners were wonderful and went above and beyond to make sure we had all we needed. What a great week-end get away thank you for sharing your piece of heaven.
We were looking to have a weekend getaway for my bithday and kinda see the real Florida. (Too many trips to Miami and Disney) This was the perfect little cottage on the river. I wish I was an aspiring writer because it was one of those great places to conjure up a little inpiration. If your coming to fish make sure you bring live bait as I ended up donating about 5 lures to the river without a bite. A guy staying just up river was using live bait and was pulling up fish pretty regularly. In between seeing the river by canoe or kayak, jumping in the Lafayette Blue Springs just down river, and watching the families of wildlife cross your path, we retreated to the sprawling deck and relaxed with a drink in one hand and a marshmallow roasting on a stick in the other. The cottage was a cozy 2 bed room with a great deck and view of the river. It was modestly appointed with everything necessary for a stay in the country (just a suggestion to the owner; it could have used some steakknives, tinfoil/plastic wrap, and some more wine glasses.) Although there are many dangerous places to fall or get in trouble our well behaved 4 yr old had a great time and really took to Jim and his dog Angel (in the house next door). He, his wife, and Angel were very friendly and were always quick to make sure we had everything we needed. We never had a Suwannee experience before and we want to thank you for making ours one to treasure! Cant wait to come back!
