This quiet 200 sq' studio apartment in the 12th arrondissement is a fifth floor walk-up (88 steps, no elevator) at the corner of rue d’Aligre and rue de Charenton. There's the wonderful outdoor Place d'Aligre Market for fruit+veg+flowers, a flea market, and an indoor market where you can get cheese+meat+fish. The Promenade Plantee (like NYC's Highline) is just around the corner above the Viaduc des Arts. It's a five minute walk to the Bastille and the new Opera House. The Marais is just the other side of the Bastille. A minute’s walk to Gare de Lyon where Metro Line 1 goes directly to the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Champs Elysees, the Grand Palais. But it's Paris, why not walk? It's a truly great location.
Philippe is from Paris, but we live in Toronto and visit whenever we can.
Anna Bourque Champion, Philippe Champion purchased this apartment in 1986
We stayed in this wonderful little apartment for a week and enjoyed it immensely. The 88 stairs were no problem and in fact helped us work off the numerous crepes we eat each day! The apartment was the perfect size for the two of us and we didn't lack for anything. Anna and Phillipe were the most helpful and gracious hosts. Always friendly, helpful and quick to get back to us via email. And Anna's humour made it all enjoyable. The location of this apartment cannot be beat. It was so charming to walk through the market each morning on the way out to explore the city. We had dinner in the apartment a few nights with fresh bread, fruit and tapanade we picked up in the market. Le Baron Rouge was a great little wine bar to end our evenings off at and we even once ventured out for some live music at Le China which is only a few blocks up the street. The neighbourhood is so family friendly and the people very accomodating and helpful as well. The Metro is so close with 3 stations to choose from. And last but not least the Promonade Plantee is practically at the doorstep of the apartment and is the best way to take a relaxing walk and "get out of the city" while still remaining in it. This was my 9th trip to Paris and this apartment allowed me a new perspective on the city and by far my favourite. We will be back to this wonderful apartment again and again!! I will also most definitely be recommending it to friends. Thanks so much again Anna and Phillipe!
Got into Paris in the coldest spring on record, but nothing could dampen our enthusiasm for this thoroughly cosy and charming studio apartment. It has everything the Parisian tourist could want, big bed, French TV, WiFi, kitchen, bathroom and two large windows which let the morning sun flow into the apartment. What makes this location truly great is the market and with a choice of the freshest fruit and vegetables, the best cheese and meats and the finest breads anywhere in the city: all wihin 50 meters of the front door. For those nights when you're too tired to go out for dinner, just pick up everything and enjoy a delicious evening in. Add to that wines to die for under 7Euro and you've got it made. Don't let the 5 floor walk up put you off. Once you've unlocked the door and opened you first Kronebourg, your breathing has returned to normal. We've been to this studio 3 times now and everytime the neighbourhood seems more charming, with more good restaruants and more nightlife. With the Promenade Plantee just steps away, you have the best garden walk (a garden walkway created out of a railroad right of way) all the way to the bois de Vincennes. Did I mention it's only a 30 minute walk to Ile de la Cite? Take a walk all the way along the Faubourg St. Antoine from Bastille to Place de la Nation. Parisians living and working in the world's most charming city. We'll be back and we hope this studio is still there for us.
We stayed at this flat in March of this year (our second visit here -- first time in 2008). Both times we have thoroughly enjoyed this accommodation. The description and photos of the property on VRBO are accurate and the rental fee is more than fair. The apartment is very clean and well-equipped and access to both television and wi-fi is a real plus.
The flat is conveniently located near the Marais with easy public transportation to all of the major Paris attractions. In addition to being very close to Gare de Lyon, the Batobus (hop on / hop off water taxi) is a short walk down Blvd Henri IV to the Seine.
Two excellent patisseries are near the flat on Charenton and L'Ebauchoir (43 rue de Citeaux ) is an excellent French restaurant close to the flat.
We recommend this rental property enthusiastically.
We had a lovely week in Paris staying in this cozy studio in the 12ieme Arr. Close to 2 metro lines, the Bastille, the Marais, Faubourg St. Antoine and the Gare de Lyon, one of its best proximities is to some great little Parisian wine bars and the Marche D'Aligre - one of the best markets in Paris.
The studio has WiFi, a good selection of TV stations, an international phone and a nice comfy bed as well as lots of guide books and maps. The kitchen is small, but nicely equipped. Highly recommended and a great deal.
We stayed in this apartment for one week and absolutely loved it. It was exactly what was needed for our time in Paris. The location was great, minutes from the metro and surrounded by shops, cafes and a really great market and grocery store. The street was quiet, especially at night when we would return from a full day of sight-seeing.
Yes, there are 88 steps to the apartment, but it honestly wasn't any trouble. You almost didn't feel guilty for eating all those chocolate croissants and crepes when you had to walk up and down the stairs each day.
The apartment was very clean and the pictures give an accurate description of the apartments appearance and amenities. There are great large windows that can be opened to let in air and there was no problem with the apartment not having a/c because of the windows. We were not there in the day, and at night we would open them for a breeze.
The fact that you are able to get long distance calling, wifi and cable was great too. We could keep in touch with family, and had excellent internet the entire stay. We were also given a small guide when we decided to rent the apartment and it listed everything we needed to know from how to get to the apartment from the airport, to how to work the television - very handy and appreciated!
The apartment had books and maps about Paris, which we found very handy and would read about things to do or suggestions from other guests of the apartment.
A great place to stay while you are in Paris - would highly recommend and would stay there again!
We stayed here during the first week of August. The apartment was very cozy, and perfect for two. Comfortable bed and a well equipped kitchen made cooking easy, and is a good alternative to eating out every night. Also, the Place D'Aligre market is amazing, and an ideal place to shop for food. It is only a few steps from the front door, and is a fun experience even if you just want to wander through. They even have a small flea market that provided some interesting finds. We loved the neighbourhood, as it didn't feel too touristy, but was very close to everything. It is also very close to the the metro and batobus transportation links, although we were mostly walking. Very comfortable, romantic, and authentically Parisienne, we will definitely be back!
