Red Hook Cottage Rental Photos and Description

- 2 bedrooms,1-Full 1- King sleeps 4 1- full bath 1- outdoor shower

A walk down a blue stone pathways leads to our charming cottage overlooking a beautiful spring fed lake. The cottage is surrounded by 50 year-old pine trees, perennials, and native trees .it is situated on our four-acre property with your own private 160 feet of lake front with canoe and 2 kayaks. Very private, quiet, serene, and just steps to lake front. Relax in the outdoor hot tub overlooking the lake.Take a bike ride through the quiet countryside (we provide 2 bikes). The cottage has an open kitchen, dining and sitting area with large pine beams, vaulted ceilings and a beautiful view of the lake or woods. The kitchen is fully equipped. The dining areas, both inside and out seat four to six people. The sitting area is very inviting, featuring a Vermont casting gas stove and a large, cozy window seat overlooking the lake and woods. The bathroom has a claw foot tub with shower, with all the amenities: hair dryer, ironing board, washer and dryer, plenty of bath and lake towels.

The bedroom on the main level has a full-size antique bed and sliding glass doors that lead out to the covered screened in porch overlooking the lake. The lake cottage also has a private patio with a hot tub, gas BBQ, and fire pit as well as your own private garden. Steps down from the cottage is a 60-foot cedar deck, a 12-foot by 12-foot pergola, and floating dock. There are lounge chairs, a table and chairs, a porch swing, and a hammock -- all private and overlooking the lake. Take a dip in the spring-fed lake which is clean and refreshing. Enjoy a paddle in the canoe or 2 kayaks. You may see painted turtles basking in the sun on fallen logs. Canadian geese and swans may swim by. If you wake up early, don't be surprised if you see wild turkeys, deer, fox, or red tailed hawks. They're all very common in our area.

The charming villages of Rhinebeck, Tivoli and Red Hook offer many choices for restaurants and nightly entertainment -- and are only about 15 minutes from our cottage. The Fisher Center on the grounds of Bard College is also only a 15 minute drive. There are historical estates such as Montgomery Place, Clermont and Olana. There is also Innisfree Garden in nearby Millbrook. Cities such as Great Barrington, Woodstock, Millerton, Millbrook and Hudson are a bit further but worth the drive.

About Bruce or Deanna Gardom

Our family moved to the New York Hudson Valley area in 2000 from the west coast. Deanna has been a flight attendant for 26 years and enjoys both flying and being home . Our daughter Olivia is in high schooland has enjoyed the country life and Red Hook's wonderful school system. Bruce worked in hotel management on the west coast for 20 years and decided a different lifestyle was needed. We had only planned on staying here for a couple of years but fell in love with the area and community and decided to stay. We built a vacation rental on our lake property to give Bruce a project and combining Bruce's knowledge of the hotel business and Deanna's bed and breakfast background from Napa Valley , California, the lake cottage has evolved into a wonderful full time business. We are grateful to our many repeat guests and our new guests for making it such a success.

Bruce or Deanna Gardom purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Bruce or Deanna Gardom chose Red Hook

The location of our lake cottage is ideal for a getaway from the stress and fast pace of the city. The privacy and tranquility of the lake and cottage is so inviting and peaceful. We see wild life almost daily, such as deer, turkey or geese ,fox, rabbits , hawks, heron, swans and an occasional eagle. The wild life is abundant in the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

FROM OUR GUEST BOOK...We needed a retreat, a place to unwind and relax. We found that, and more, at this peaceful cottage. We read, wrote, talked and watched the wildlife. Squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and deer fritted and scampered through the clearing. Alpha Squirrel was fun to watch-perched high on the birdfeeder, chattering gutteral challenges to those who would steal "his" hoard. The weather was nice. Some rain occassionally splattered the leaves, but at some point each day the sun sent shimmering grins across the lake. We hope all who stay here enjoy the traquility and fresh air as much as we did. This is trily a lovely cottage and we hope to find our way again.Thank you, Bruce and Deanna, for your hospitality and for sharing your cottage ( and the peace it brought)...

Fantastic Getaway

  • 5 of 5
I can only echo what all of the other reviews have said. This is a wonderful cottage away from it all. It is kept in meticulous condition and you want for nothing. I debated writing a review as to keep this place a secret but decided it was o.k to share it! We spent time in there over Christmas so when we entered the house to the warm fireplace going, and the adorable Christmas tree we knew it was going to be magical. And it was. Can't wait to visit again. Thanks Bruce and Deanna!

Cottage Beautiful

  • 5 of 5
Upon arrival we were impressed with the beautiful grounds, seclusion of the cottage, and lake views. Upon entering the screened porch and cottage we were wowed with the beautiful simplicity. Perfection for napping, reading, lounging and talking all with the latest amenities! Thank you for being gracious hosts and we'll be back!

Perfect

  • 5 of 5
In midst of incredibly cold and snowy new years week, we arrived at the cottage to a warm and cozy fire, everything clean and welcoming with chocolate and fresh eggs and milk and syrup and pancake mix. we brought a puzzle and games and camped out in front of the fire, went for a few hikes (recommended in the welcome letter), spent time gazing out over the frozen lake, in the hot tub, even made a few outdoor fires! it was exactly what we were looking for and exactly what we needed. really hope to go back in the summer sometime and use the kayaks and rope swiing!

No-stress New Year's getaway

No-stress New Year's getaway
  • 5 of 5
Three friends and I decided we wanted something other than a typical New York City New Year's this year -- we've each had plenty that have failed to live up to either our expectations or their price ;) Almost as soon as we came across the listing for this cottage we knew it was the place for us.

Bruce and Deanna have done an amazing job at making this place feel instantly like home. We walked in bleary-eyed from an after-work drive from Manhattan to find a personal note with all the information we'd need for our stay, a bottle of wine, and their signature fresh eggs, along with other fantastic details like sustainable cleaning supplies, fair trade coffee, pancake mix, and all the kitchen tools we'd need. Each room had its own surprises, from a basket full of books in one bedroom to a cupboard full of DVDs in the living room to a fresh lily in the bathroom. We only stayed for two nights, but we could have stayed for two weeks.

The extent of our outdoor activities in the cold was a dip in their perfect hot tub, but I'd love to come back in the warmer months to check out the lake (which is literally right in the backyard), take a bike ride, or just relax on the porch. Oh, and the cottage is close enough to town that we were able to pop out for dinner the first night, and grab groceries and booze for our New Year's celebration the next day. Overall the best start to 2014 we could have asked for.

Wonderful getaway, amazing owners!

We have visited this beautiful cottage twice and have had a wonderful trip each time. Every detail is thought out and perfectly planned. The house is beautiful, the setting serene, and the amenities are outstanding. It is a true pleasure to stay here, we have recommended this to friends galore and plan to return for years to come.

Fantastic Stay!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed for our honeymoon and were absolutely blown away by the cottage. Every detail was obviously thought of, and every little amenity that we could have wanted was there. Between the gorgeous lake front views of the front porch, the hammock, a sweet alcove, bikes and boats, a fully stocked kitchen, local "green" soaps, and the hot tub...it just doesn't get better than that! Also, Bruce and Deanna were wonderful and accommodating! Thank you so much for helping us enjoy our after wedding bliss :)
