|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
This beautiful large new, two air-conditioned bedrooms/one-bath home is nestled on 5 private secluded acres in the foothills adjoining the El Yunque National Forest rain forest. We are one of very few properties offering the actual experience of living in the rain forest.
Our home is an easy drive to the International Airport (SJU), old San Juan, the nightlife of El Condado and Isla Verde, world-famous beaches, golf courses, nature reserves, impressive underwater reefs and small cays - and of course the unique scenic and hiking facilities of the National Forest.
The nearby coastal area is ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, kayaking and deep sea fishing. All this is a short distance from the house while you enjoy sleeping in the privacy & tranquility of the cool night breezes in the rain forest.
Our rainforest home is fully equipped with washer and dryer as well as free wireless internet (speed varies).
For the nature lover who seeks privacy, tranquility and the lush environment of the tropical rainforest, you have arrived.
Our home has a unique 'open-air' design, so that no walls or unnecessary obstacles block the way of communication, natural light or rich, fresh air. There is a fully equipped and functional kitchen along with a movable island. Two spacious air-conditioned bedrooms are on the lower floor, one of which opens onto the veranda. The entire second floor is a wide open loft with two outdoor decks. The loft itself is fully furnished with four large futons that transform into beds.
Guests will enjoy peaceful surroundings, lush vegetation, siestas in the hammocks on the expansive porch, great back-yard barbecues, unexpected rain followed by radiant sun and blue skies, sounds of the forest (especially the song of the coqui, the tiny tree frogs that welcomes the rain singing in unison), a secluded walking labyrinth, and marvelous morning walks along our private road.

We designed and built the Rainforest Home over the course of several years completing it for guests in 2005. We add new features and upgrades of one sort or another every year and maintain the Rainforest Home with loving care.
Walter & Nilda purchased this house in 2005
Deep in the rainforest on 5 private acres, lush and tropical vegetation, cool nights and warm days, and the intimacy of forest life - all within easy reach of 'civilization' when you need to get there.
Privacy, nature, forest, spacious and comfortable, we could go on ... (check the reviews).
My husband and I stayed at this incredible home for a week in May, and I am so glad I took the time to research rentals. Not only was the house perfect in every way, but there were tiny, dark condos for rent in other areas for lots more money - plus add-on charges. Here there was none of that. Pipo, the caretaker, let us know that it would be no problem at all if we called him for any reason. Everything was so ideal, that we didn't even need to call once....
The covered porch was where we spent our time when we weren't out exploring the mountains and beaches, small towns and snorkeling trips. We never even went into San Juan, because there was so much else nearby...
It rained most every day for a time in this lush area, and we watched the jungle grow daily from this porch. We shopped and cooked and slept, and I could not think of a better paradise to be in....
This was my second visit to the Rainforest Home, the first was last year about the same time when I stayed with 9 others, but this visit there were only 4 of us. The two downstairs bedrooms are large and light, with a nice bathroom downstairs and a great shower. The towels are soft and smell like clean laundry, which if you've visited Puerto Rico or the rainforest, you'll know is a not common (lots of rain = lots of dampness). I love the kitchen, large and well appointed, with a (new this year) island in the center with bar stools for food prep and conversation. The back patio is maybe my favorite part, with geckos and lizards of all shapes and colors crawling on the walls to see what you've got for dinner, and a view of the rain forest that takes your breath away every time you walk out. Banana trees, bromeliads, fern trees, orchids and tropical flowers are everywhere you look, and the sound of the coqui at night is magical (traveler tip- bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. The frogs, while charming, are also loud. I love the sound but I still brought my earplugs just in case). The roof is metal, so if you sleep upstairs in the loft (4 futons) you might need those earplugs as the rainstorms can be loud and come up suddenly.
Walter was such a gracious host, he offered to meet us to get us situated, and went above and beyond for us before we arrived. We shipped ourselves a package from home with coffee, snacks and other items we'd need in PR but didn't think we could find (specialty food items), and it was waiting for us in the house upon arrival. The grounds are well kept, as is the home. The care and attention to detail is evident.
During the day, we'd head out from the house and go farther up into the rainforest to go hiking (La Mina Falls & La Coca Falls trails), go down to the Wyndham Resort to use their pools & beach, grab food at Luquillo Beach or El Verde BBQ, all within a 20 minute drive. San Juan is a bit further, but you can definitely do a day trip into the city to visit Old San Juan to see the historical sights or check out the nightlife for some drinks and dancing.
I don't know when I'll get back to Puerto Rico, not sure if this will be a yearly trip or one I take every couple of years, but I absolutely love visiting and love staying at the Rainforest home. I can't wait for my return!
Walter & Nilda's Rain Forest Home is absolutely beautiful! The house was very clean and much larger than we had anticipated. It is a perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It was great to be minutes from the entrance to El Yunque and very close to Luquillo Beach. There was a great supermarket "Ralph's" at the bottom of the mountain. Everything we needed was at the house. Fresh clean linens and towels!! There were practically no bugs and the Coqui frogs sang us to sleep each night. This is a magical place. Don't hesitate to book it! We will definitely be back.!! While in Puerto Rico we did the Bio Bay( reserve your space at least a week in advance) in Farjardo and also took the ferry to Culebra Island. These are not to be missed! Paradise! Thank you Walter & Nilda
Our first time in Puerto Rico. We could not have found a better place to stay. Absolutely perfect. Walter, thank you so much for having this retreat. We spent a lot of our time on the back porch, enjoying the beautiful property, when we were not hiking or exploring the rain forest. We will be back.
I had the awsome opportunity to stay in this home in September. I cannot say enough about the whole experience. The home is wonderful and the surroundings will leave you speechless. The best part was no distractions.Just serene calm and the delightful company of my Brother and his wife. So wonderful to share this get away with family in an absolutelt beautiful place. Thank you Walter for your hospitallity.
We only spent a couple of nights here, but I wish it had been so much longer. Everything, from the initial contact to leaving the keys, gave us an incredible getaway.
First, the owner was friendly, accommodating and exceptionally responsive, especially considering we arrived on a holiday. He also gave us good tips for eating and getting around. Probably the best advice was to tour the rainforest on our own, which we did, and had an incredible time.
The property itself is spotless, well-constructed, and beautifully furnished; the pictures don't do it justice. You can tell it's well-maintained. Just to note, in case you miss it in the description, that there is no TV reception although the owner maintains a small collection of DVDs to watch, and while there is internet, it is very slow and spotty. But you don't go to the rainforest to watch TV and surf the web. And that's where the real beauty of this place comes in.
The outside property (in a gated community) is beautiful beyond words. So close to the beaches and kioskos of Luquillo and Fajardo yet so far away from it all. During one minor rain, I actually walked in backyard and videoed it. Then, that night, after a stronger rain, we were treated to the real chorus of life in the rainforest.
If we come back to Puerto Rico, we will definitely look to stay here again. And if you are coming to the are, do not hesitate to rent this property.
Thanks for a great time!
Unique location adjoining the border of El Yunque National Forest. While in the house, you will enjoy the peaceful surroundings of lush vegetation, siestas in the hammock on the back porch, great back-yard barbecues, occasional visits by curious small & harmless lizards, unexpected rain followed by radiant sun and blue skies, marvelous morning walks along the private road, and the unique sounds of the forest. The song of the coquí will welcome you to the rain forest. They are the tiny tree frogs that, singing in unison, greet the rain.
