|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
This cabin was built from old tobacco barns and is authentic as they come while having all of the amenities of home!
You truly must see it to believe it. It is very secluded, with only one other resident on the road and sitting on almost 4 acres. No one lives on either side. It is a heavily wooded property so be aware of all that could include (reptiles, furry animals, insects, etc...).
There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms inside the cabin. A full kitchen and wonderful 'living area' are separated by a beautiful stone fireplace with a wood burner on one side and a wood stove on the other.
There is also a separate cabin that sleeps two and is akin to a studio apartment. There is not a bathroom in that cabin and it is heated using electric heat. I do NOT rent the little cabin from November through March as it will not stay warm enough during the cold winter months. There is an extra $75.00/night charge for using the little cabin for a weekend stay. It will sleep two people and has two twin beds.
There is a lovely bubbling creek just a short walk through the woods, where you will find a wonderful deck and hammocks or chairs to cozy up in with a good book. It's a great place to truly enjoy nature.
Shelton Vineyards is within 1/2 a mile 'as the crow flies', and a short drive from the cabin. It is one of the largest vineyards in the state and has a wonderful restaurant on site. Tours and wine tastings are available as well.
There are many other vineyards located in the 'Yadkin Valley' and information is readily available online. Go to Yadkin Valley Wine Trail (online),to find anything you could possibly need to know about wine in NC.
The final stretch of road (approx 1/4 mile), leading to the cabin is bumpy but certainly passable, even in rainy weather. This property is located in a heavily wooded area. You are likely to see animals/rodents/insects unique to a heavily wooded area. If you are not 'into' the woods because of a fear or discomfort of these types of encounters, this may not be the place for you! Those who have a love of the outdoors and all that comes with it are a perfect fit!
All part of the rustic/back to nature features of this charming cabin!

I am a business owner of a recycling company in the Piedmont section of the state. I work hard and when I need a break, I head north to Dobson. I can't wait for others to enjoy the cabin as much as I have, since purchasing it in 2006.
Susan Newman purchased this cabin in 2006
I describe the cabin as being at the 'top' of the foothills. You can see mountain ranges all around, but it is still very convenient from the Piedmont area to get to. Less than 2 hours. The first time I saw the cabin I knew I had to have it. It's authentic, secluded, and a corner of the property borders Shelton Vineyards property. There are vineyards all around and I enjoy visiting them and participating in many of the special events that are offered year 'round.
When I'm at the cabin all of the weight of the world disappears. It is peaceful and serene. I call the cabin my 'slice of heaven'. The creek is a short walk down a well marked path through the woods. I have built a deck by the creek and chairs are available to rest in while listening to the creek and reading a good book.
Perfect alternative to The Hampton Inn. Went hiking, toured the winery and attended a wedding at Blueberry Hill Farm - all 3 venues were nearby! Enjoyed the quaintness and charm. Stayed in main cabin - plenty of room for all 7 of us and 2 dogs!
My wife and I shared this cabin with another couple for a long weekend and it was everything it promised to be. It was like stepping back in time to a country cabin in the woods - but with all the modern amenities we have grown accustomed to having.
I am a home care provider of two intellectually disabled ladies and both of these ladies along with myself and a friend greatly enjoyed this wonderful cabin. From the time that I observed the old washing tub hanging up on the porch along with the porch swings and the creative country decor I felt so much at home. Even though we had two days when we had some clouds with rain the cabin was perfect and I especially enjoyed relaxing on the porch swing, listening to the rain hit the tin roof while reading my Kindle. As much as we enjoyed the vacation my dog Bosco loved it more. He absolutely had the best time of his life and cried to go back after arriving home. Just before we departed to go home Bosco broke free from his leash on a walk and took a good run around the property. After returning to the car receiving a lecture from me Bosco just reached over and gave me a big lick then I swear that he gave me the most satisfied smile. Oh and I loved the bed downstairs as it was so very comfortable!
Just what we were looking for. Perfect location for winery tours. Very rustic but it has everything you need for a quiet relaxing getaway! Will definitely return for another round of winery tours
This homey, sweet cabin was just what we were looking for to spend Thanksgiving together as a family. My son recently returned from deployment and could not travel home to Illinois so we celebrated at Susan's cabin in the woods! The nearby town had anything we needed and we enjoyed the quiet, family time with food, woods fire, movies, and board games! Great holiday retreat! Thanks Susan.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our week in the woods in this sweet little cabin! Although we were very secluded, the interstate and nearest town were only minutes away. The weather was on the chilly side, and we loved being able to light a fire each night in the wood-burning fireplace. Susan, the owner of the rental property, went above and beyond in making sure that we had everything we needed. She provided information on local places of interest and activities the area had to offer. I can't wait to go back! I just love, love, love it!!! (both the cabin and the area)
Mt. Airy ('Mayberry' for those Andy Griffith fans), Many vineyards are close by, including Shelton Vineyards which is a 'stone's throw' away and one of the largest vineyards in the state. The Blue Ridge Parkway is 15 minutes north on Hwy 77 as well. Stone Mountain and Pilot Mountain are nearby for those interesting in hiking or rock climbing, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is about a 20 minute drive up I77, which is about 8 minutes from the cabin, accessible at the Fancy Gap exit. There are several beautiful rivers in the area, including the Mitchell River and Ararat River. The New River is also not too far away, and offers tubing and canoeing opportunities in the Sparta area. All of these rivers offer exciting opportunities for all types of fishermen!
