|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
This cabin was built from old tobacco barns and is authentic as they come while having all of the amenities of home!
You truly must see it to believe it. It is very secluded, with only one other resident on the road and sitting on almost 4 acres. No one lives on either side. It is a heavily wooded property so be aware of all that could include (reptiles, furry animals, insects, etc...).
There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms inside the cabin. A full kitchen and wonderful 'living area' are separated by a beautiful stone fireplace with a wood burner on one side and a wood stove on the other.
There is also a separate cabin that sleeps two and is akin to a studio apartment. There is not a bathroom in that cabin and it is heated using electric heat. I do NOT rent the little cabin from November through March as it will not stay warm enough during the cold winter months. There is an extra $75.00/night charge for using the little cabin for a weekend stay. It will sleep two people and has two twin beds.
There is a lovely bubbling creek just a short walk through the woods, where you will find a wonderful deck and hammocks or chairs to cozy up in with a good book. It's a great place to truly enjoy nature.
Shelton Vineyards is within 1/2 a mile 'as the crow flies', and a short drive from the cabin. It is one of the largest vineyards in the state and has a wonderful restaurant on site. Tours and wine tastings are available as well.
There are many other vineyards located in the 'Yadkin Valley' and information is readily available online. Go to Yadkin Valley Wine Trail (online),to find anything you could possibly need to know about wine in NC.
The final stretch of road (approx 1/4 mile), leading to the cabin is bumpy but certainly passable, even in rainy weather. This property is located in a heavily wooded area. You are likely to see animals/rodents/insects unique to a heavily wooded area. If you are not 'into' the woods because of a fear or discomfort of these types of encounters, this may not be the place for you! Those who have a love of the outdoors and all that comes with it are a perfect fit!
All part of the rustic/back to nature features of this charming cabin!

I am a business owner of a recycling company in the Piedmont section of the state. I work hard and when I need a break, I head north to Dobson. I can't wait for others to enjoy the cabin as much as I have, since purchasing it in 2006.
Susan Newman purchased this cabin in 2006
I describe the cabin as being at the 'top' of the foothills. You can see mountain ranges all around, but it is still very convenient from the Piedmont area to get to. Less than 2 hours. The first time I saw the cabin I knew I had to have it. It's authentic, secluded, and a corner of the property borders Shelton Vineyards property. There are vineyards all around and I enjoy visiting them and participating in many of the special events that are offered year 'round.
When I'm at the cabin all of the weight of the world disappears. It is peaceful and serene. I call the cabin my 'slice of heaven'. The creek is a short walk down a well marked path through the woods. I have built a deck by the creek and chairs are available to rest in while listening to the creek and reading a good book.
This homey, sweet cabin was just what we were looking for to spend Thanksgiving together as a family. My son recently returned from deployment and could not travel home to Illinois so we celebrated at Susan's cabin in the woods! The nearby town had anything we needed and we enjoyed the quiet, family time with food, woods fire, movies, and board games! Great holiday retreat! Thanks Susan.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our week in the woods in this sweet little cabin! Although we were very secluded, the interstate and nearest town were only minutes away. The weather was on the chilly side, and we loved being able to light a fire each night in the wood-burning fireplace. Susan, the owner of the rental property, went above and beyond in making sure that we had everything we needed. She provided information on local places of interest and activities the area had to offer. I can't wait to go back! I just love, love, love it!!! (both the cabin and the area)
Wendy and I found this cabin to be perfect for a short retreat on our way to the NC shore. The cabin is clean, well maintained, and comfortable. It had everything we needed for our stay. As it is close to the local vineyards and wineries it was very convenient for going wine tasting. The cabin is secluded enough to allow us privacy and we were able to take long walks on the trails and local roads while feeling very safe in this friendly country community. The trees with the fall leaf changes were beautiful. Even though secluded, there are lots of local excellent dining experiences within a short drive. The owner, Susan, was friendly, easy to work with, and very helpful. Next time we are traveling to the shore we will be staying again. Thanks, Susan for sharing your cabin with us. Frank and Wendy
We had a wonderful weekend (4 adults) and enjoyed the surrounding area. The description is accurate and pictures appropriately reflect the setting. Susan was great to work with and her recommendations for local restaurants and areas of interest were helpful. We would definitely return.
The cabin was quite nice. It had all of the amenities mentioned in its description. It is secluded but you are not very far from town and vineyards. It was a great location for us since we were planning on seeing part of Virginia as well as part of North Carolina.
The owner was very nice as was the neighbor who watches over the cabin. When we arrived there was another couple parked at the entrance of our cabin. The neighbor and owner were both very helpful in getting the issue cleared up. As it turned out the other couple were in the wrong place.
WE LOVED THIS CABIN!! When I die, this is what my heaven will look like! My husband and I have already told several people about this cabin. Susan, you were so wonderful to work with -- very accommodating. Thanks again for everything. Walter and I had a great time, loved the cabin and grounds and the nearby vineyards were an added treat!
We will be sure to keep it in mind for future trips North.
Mt. Airy ('Mayberry' for those Andy Griffith fans), Many vineyards are close by, including Shelton Vineyards which is a 'stone's throw' away and one of the largest vineyards in the state. The Blue Ridge Parkway is 15 minutes north on Hwy 77 as well. Stone Mountain and Pilot Mountain are nearby for those interesting in hiking or rock climbing, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is about a 20 minute drive up I77, which is about 8 minutes from the cabin, accessible at the Fancy Gap exit. There are several beautiful rivers in the area, including the Mitchell River and Ararat River. The New River is also not too far away, and offers tubing and canoeing opportunities in the Sparta area. All of these rivers offer exciting opportunities for all types of fishermen!
