Shopping, movies, restaurants, and amusements are all nearby -- most within walking distance. Free music, fireworks, bingo and amusement park at boardwalk during summer months. There are two convenience stores within one block of the building, and an ice cream parlor four blocks away. Public tennis and volleyball courts are also nearby. There are a dozen golf courses within a 45-minute drive; the closest only 3.5 miles away. Your 4-wheel-drive SUV can take you to picnics and surfing on the Island's north and south ends where beach driving is permitted.
The Carolina Beach charter fishing boats are just blocks away, and guarantee great fishing in the Gulf Stream.
Also, for the non-fishermen, two of the largest boats in the town marina specialize in night cruises that offer stargazing and dancing.
You can also hop on a short ferry -- just six miles south -- to go to the quaint town of Southport. You'll probably recognize the town from such films as 'I Know What You Did Last Summer', or the more recent 'Domestic Disturbance' and 'Ya-Ya Sisterhood'.
Worried about what to do with the kids? Take them to Jungle Rapids to enjoy the water park, go-carts, laser tag, and miniature golf. If you really like amusement parks, take a day trip to busy Myrtle Beach and go to the Pavilion (about an hour and half away). While there, check out The Dixie Stampede, The Alabama Theatre, Ripley's Believe It or Not, and Broadway at the Beach. Or just stroll the boardwalk. Then come home to your quiet beachfront town.
The town of Carolina Beach has a population of about 5,000. It is a 'real' town with year-round full services and a family feel to it.
The town is also adjacent to Wilmington, NC (15 minutes drive) with lots of non-beach things to do. One of the more unusual things to do there is to visit a WW-II battleship. If you're a movie buff, take a tour of the local Screen Gem Studios and see where many movies have been made -- and where 'Dawson's Creek' is taped.
Although there is lots to do in Carolina Beach, the star of the show here is still the beach.
