Why The Owner chose Ace

My late husband and I fell in love with the area while visiting friends who owned weekend houses there and, in 1980, we had the shell of the house built . With the help of wonderful friends, we worked weekends building out the interior. The project took about a year to complete and I have many great memories of those times. The chalet became our escape from the hectic weekly pace in Houston. We put heart and soul into building out the chalet! When my husband passed away in 1993, the only way I could rationalize keeping the property was to rent it out to vacationers. I've had the good fortune of meeting so many wonderful people who have rented from me since that time and look forward to being blessed with many more!

What makes this chalet unique

Serenity Now!! ;) I feel the stress of every day life and all my cares drift away immediately while driving down the winding road to the property. Taking in God's incredible creation of nature all around is icing on the cake while cooking in my delightful little kitchen with its great view of the lake, fishing, lounging around reading or playing games...just completely relaxing in the quiet and beautiful atmosphere of Taylor Lake! When I get there, I never want to leave!

Guestbook comments from the owner

The chalet and surrounding area is absolutely beautiful! Had a wonderful time just sitting in different locations around the house & deck, enjoying God's masterpiece. We went out on the boat & got a good ab workout laughing so hard because 3 women couldn't row a boat and we were not confident about working the trolling motor. But we figured it out quickly & were pros in no time! Thanks for allowing others to enjoy your "cozy slice of Heaven"!

Five day stay

  • 5 of 5
We stayed for 5 days and had a great time. The lake was relaxing, and there was plenty of shade in the front yard to escape the afternoon sun. The house was equipped and supplied just as in the description on the web page, there was plenty of wood for the smoker/grill, and all of the appliances and electronics worked perfectly. The property was spotless and ready for us to move in. Thanks, Patricia. We'll be renting again in the not-so-distant future.

Month Vacation

We are from upper Michigan and found the Chalet in Ace, TX as the perfect get-away for us. Having left behind the cold winter in Michigan, delighted in the warm weather and the blooming of spring time in Ace. The most relaxing time was sitting on the deck and taking in the wild life abounding before us including birds, turtles, alligators and an a lake full of fish. We found it to be a quiet, private retreat but not far from local shopping and restaurants and just 45 minutes from Houston and all the attractions that city offers. The Chalet is in need of some updating which was in the planning while we were there. The Chalet offers a beautiful view right on the lake, is comfortable and has all the amenities.

Owner's Response: Pam, we truly appreciate your time in writing this wonderful review and are so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay. I'm just so sorry we were unable to get the upgrades done prior to your arrival but were in hopes that the two new chairs would at least make the living area more comfortable for you. Hopefully we can go back in after the high season and complete those planned changes and upgrades. Please do come back our way soon. We'd love having you guys again!

wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I have a wonderful, relaxing get away stay in the chalet for 5 nights. I have AT&T and my cell phone reception is not the best, but the provided WIFI work well if you need to keep connected, Livingston is a short 15 minute drive where we get all our food supplies. Pat is very nice to work with and will come back again.

Fiance's Birthday Weekend Getaway

Fiance's Birthday Weekend Getaway
  • 4 of 5
Overall the experience was fabulous! My fiance was very pleased with the fish we caught each time we went out in the boat provided. We did take an extra battery and trolling motor...good thing for that the battery provided would not charge with the charger provided. Alligators came by the dozen!! We saw a 9 foot Alligator and it caught our fishing line and drug the boat for a bit before we were able to cut the line. My fiance is an extreme hunter so this was true excitement for him and also brought great laughter to see my reaction to the occurance. With that said, the house and everything provided was a great pleasure! I do agree that the living room furniture could be updated for that there was not a relaxing spot to watch a TV show and the TV was too high for as low as you had to sit on the worn out sofa. The air conditioners worked great and celing fans all through the house...so it stayed nice in cool at all times. Great place to go!!
We would like to thank you Patricia for allowing us to rent your home for the weekend....its a weekend that we will never forget!!

Owner's Response: We love hearing our renters had a great time during their stay and we genuinely appreciate your taking the time to write a review. The sleeper loveseat that tends to unfold if not put in place properly is being replaced. We are just sorry it was not replaced prior to your arrival. The battery is new, the charger will be replaced and we really appreciate your letting us know it is faulty. Now, the alligator story is quite another thing, entirely. Unless your "extreme hunter" fiance was literally trolling for alligators, we are having a hard time wrapping our minds around your comment, "alligators came by the dozens" :) We've never seen more than 2-3 in the lake since we built in 1980; and, though we are aware that they do venture across from the Trinity river, with a few even making the lake their home, we do not encourage feeding them or trolling for them. The fact that a few do inhabit the area is also the reason we forbid swimming in our lake. With the chalet being located in the Big Thicket which is the home of many different kinds of wildlife, we are priviledged to have an opportunity to enjoy watching them, from a distance We also must remember to remain respectful at all times of the fact that it is their home as well. Thank you so much again for your review and for choosing the chalet for your weekend get-away! Kindest regatrds, Patricia

Wonderful Anniversary Weekend

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I went to the Cozy Slice of Heaven for the 4th of July weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We had a wonderful relaxing time. I really enjoyed feeding all the turtles and perch.. I just wish I wouldn't have taken a bite than feed them a bite ha. I was reading other reviews about alligators - we actually would watch 1 alligator come into the cove around the same time every evening and it was awesome to watch him through the binoculars. As far as the cottage - it was exactly what we hoped for.. I have rented places before and had been disappointed upon arrival - not here.. it was very clean, cool and comfortable. Thanks Patricia & Paula for everything.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much, Stacey, for the great review! We sincerely appreciate your kind words about the chalet and are so happy to hear how much you enjoyed your stay as well. (The alligator you mention sounds like the one and only one I've ever seen that stays way out at the opening of the cove where it joins the main part of the lake.) Congratulations on your anniversary and thank you again for choosing the chalet for your celebration escape! We do hope you and your hubby will want to come back again soon! Kind regards,
Patricia

VERY RELAXING

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I and our 2 dogs stayed at the chalet for 2 nites. It was just as Patricia decribed. The pictures did not do it justice. It was so relaxing and peaceful. The chalet was very clean and well stocked. The view was amazing. We were a little dissapointed that the lake was so low, however, that did not stop us from enjoying our fishing from the floating deck! We absolutely will be back again and hopefully the water level will be up. Thanks Patricia for sharing your "cozy slice of Heaven" with us.

Owner's Response: Teresa, we are so appreciative of this wonderful review and it makes me very happy to hear how much you enjoyed your stay inspite of the low level of the lake. Just let us know when you would like to come back and it will be my pleasure to acommodate you. In the mean time, could we prevail upon you to please do a bunch of rain dances! :) Thank you so much again and we will always look forward to hearing from you guys! Kind regards, Patricia
