Avoid the noise and crowds of condos with this remodeled, two-story cottage; a wonderful lake retreat in the woods. Enjoy clean lake water, sailing, fishing for champion striped bass, jet-skiing and water-skiing -- all while taking in fantastic views of Smith Mountain and the main channel (Marker R-2). The natural beach combined with a floating dock will keep the kids entertained while mom and dad enjoy the fantastic view, covered dock and screened porches. For the fisherman, the citation stripers await your arrival. Mitchel's Marina is within walking distance for launching boats, food and tackle. A deep water boat slip adjoins the floating dock. The upstairs was remodeled with new bathroom, carpeting, floors and paint. The upstairs contains two bedrooms, a full kitchen, family room and screened deck. The downstairs has also been renovated with a full bath, extra bedroom, den, washer and dryer and screened porch.

ITEMS NEEDED AND PLACES TO VISIT: ITEMS NEEDED AND PLACES TO VISIT: All you need for a complete vacation is your bed linens, towels (bath and lake), soaps, paper products, trash bags and toiletries. Rental periods are weekly from Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm until Saturday morning at 10:00 am. A $200.00 refundable security deposit is required. The National D-Day memorial is 30 minutes down the road in Bedford VA. If you want some variety you can drive, motorcycle or hike the scenic Blue Ridge mountains or the Peaks of Otter which are just 45 minutes away. 'Explore Park' near Roanoke and Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest residence near Lynchburg are less than an hour away. NASCAR's Martinsville race, held twice a year, is also a one and half hour drive. Booker T. Washington's and Jubal Early's childhood homes are a short drive from the lake. Charlottesville (Monticello and University of VA) and Blacksburg, VA (Home of Virginia Tech) are just two hours away. Ferrum College is one hour away.

We had a wonderful time during our stay at the house. We were looking for a relaxing time and found exactly what we were looking for. The area is pretty secluded so if you're looking for privacy, you'll find it.

There was a family of deer that would come around the lake in the mornings. The screened in porch is a great feature and was a great spot to enjoy the views of the lake.

The owners were very accommodating regarding any questions we had. I would visit again....

Wonderful place for two couples. Upper and lower levels have a bedroom, bath and sitting area along with frig and microwave. Upper level has full kitchen.

Easy to get down to dock and the swimming was wonderful. The lake is so clean and refreshing.

Quiet and serene environment. Would go back again without question..

Our first time at SML

We totally enjoyed our stay at this home. The property was clean, and well maintained. The owner had a stream lined procedure for making a reservation and what we needed to know about the process was clear.
The house was better than we expected. From the picture we could tell it was an older home so we thought it would be somewhat 'campy' but since it was well cleaned and maintained it felt more like a year round home. The neighborhood was quiet, suitable for walking or running, and getting different views of the lake. From one street nearby you can see the damn. The weather was perfect every day for eating outside at the table on the screened in porch. The fan kept us from being too hot in the afternoon.
We spent lazy days on the dock fishing, swimming and reading. Our boys had hours of fun using the canoe and little sailboat when there was a breeze. The water was perfect swimming temperature (this is in August) and in the evening we watched the moon rise over the lake from the porch or dock.
One night we had dinner down the street at the marina, the desserts are the most tasty.
We also visited the winery and got a free personal tour and tasting. We walked through the vineyard and my husband wanted to eat the grapes but didn't. When we returned from the fields the owner said, "sure, you need to try the grapes, they are incredably sweet." Oh well, next time.

We had a great time at the house.

When sun came out we spent all day at a dock, but even when it rained we had plenty to do between reading on a screened porch, driving to see a movie or just enjoying the scenery.

The owners were very nice and very responsive. Their father-in-law lives next door and can answer any questions. He was even nice enough to offer us a canoe which we used a lot. Don't forget to ask for the life-vests too! We didn't think about it and had to pay a hefty penalty ($100+) after we were caught by the police on the last evening!

Another great thing is that a boat rental is right next door. One day we rented a pontoon boat and had a great time cruising around the lake. Make sure to come early in the morning (they open at 7:30) since they run out of boats very quickly.

Overall, this was a great, relaxing week.

Thank you so much for opening your home to us. We could not have asked for anything better - it was clean, comfy, had all we needed. The view of the lake was spectacular and the area rich with the warm colors of Fall and loads of things to do.
I would certainly highly recommend this property to family and friends looking to stay in the Smith Mt. Lake area.
