The Ridge is a natural wood, rustic timber-constructed, saltbox design with wide oak floors, a balcony bedroom, cathedral celing, and a wrap-around deck. The views are spectacular from the interior and from the deck! There are wooded hiking trails on the property which lead to a picnic table in a forest. Mountain streams, swimming, fishing, golfing, and historic sightseeing are all close by. Quiet and peaceful, the Ridge is the perfect place for a couple to relax and recharge.
Conveniently located near Lexington VA: You would think you were many miles out in the country but in fact The Ridge is less than 3 miles from the city limits of historic Lexington Virginia. Home of Washington and Lee University, Virginia Military Institute, and the Virginia Horse Center, Lexington has many historic and other sites of interest. Two 'must see' sites are Natural Bridge of Virginia, one of the seven natural wonders of the world located 20 miles south, and Goshen Pass, a beautiful mountain river with picnic facilities and swimming holes located 15 miles west. Both Universities have civil war museums. The Virginia Horse Centere holds many equestrian competitions and shows throughout the year.
Hiking trails: There are two hiking trails on the property, both leading to a picnic location with table. One leads into a mature forest. The other climbs to a hill top clearing with a breathtaking view.
Easy access by car:
The Ridge is easily accessible by car over paved county roads and a gentle well maintained gravel driveway.
Our family of 4 stayed at 'The Ridge' for an extended weekend in July of 2014 and had a wonderful experience! Very peaceful and relaxing. The cabin is absolutely charming and I totally agree with the other comments about how clean it was. We were 10 minutes to Lexington with great restaurants and great historical venues. It was an easy drive to Natural Bridge and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The owners, John and Sandy, treated us like family!!! We would definitely stay again.
I stayed here in February 2014, and it was the perfect place to stay in the area! I loved how it was so close to Lexington, but it felt like it was in the middle of nowhere (and sounded like it to). The cabin was beautiful with a lovely porch that extends around the cabin to allow for beautiful views of the mountains that surround it. Also, I've stayed in a number of cabin rentals throughout the state, and this one was by far the cleanest (I had absolutely no complaints about how clean it was).
In addition, the owners are incredibly friendly. Next time I am in the Lexington area, I will definitely be staying here again!
I stayed here in August 2012 and It was wonderful. The cabin is very clean and has everything you need in stock (linens, kitchen supplies, etc.) The owner met us when we arrived and he showed us where everything was. He was very accommodating. It gave me peace of mind knowing that he lived just down the road, but the cabin was very private. There is a trail with a 10-15 minute walk that leads to a spectacular view, great for watching the sun rise. Washington & Lee, VMI, and Lexington Town are just minutes away and there is plenty of little shops and things to do for a quiet weekend. Overall, a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone, especially couples looking for a quiet relaxing weekend.
My boyfriend and I stayed here August 2012 for a long weekend getaway, and it was just what I needed. The owner met us when we arrived and showed us where everything was and he was very accommodating. It was relaxing to know that he lives just down the road, but the cabin was very private. Most importantly, it was very clean and stocked with everything we needed. Washington and Lee, VMI, and the town of Lexington are just minutes away. And there were plenty of little shops and things to do for a quiet weekend. There's a trail with berries that leads up a spectacular view that is great for hiking in the morning to see the sun rise. Overall, a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it.
We enjoyed Easter Weekend at "The Ridge". The view was spectacular! It was simple and secluded....a great getaway! The property was very clean and well-maintained. John provided excellent service. I highly recommend this property!
