Overview

Boothbay Harbor Cottage Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 (3/4) baths, sleeps 6 priv, 4 decks, beach, dock, bay views

Winter Special: Two people can enjoy three nights of pristine relaxation at Seanook for the price of two. Rent any two nights for $385 and get a third consecutive night free; four people $485; six people $585. Or two people can rent a week for $1250 and get two extra consecutive nights free.

Seanook is built on its own rocky point sequestered on the shore of Linekin Bay. It is grandfathered uniquely close to the ocean; the tide comes in around and under it. You can have this rare historic experience of staying over the water, which is like being on a boat except it doesn’t rock. Panoramic windows and 4 decks put you over the water. Watch weather waft across the waves and spectacular sunsets reflected in calm. On a rainy night the pitter-patter on the roof will lull you to sleep. Wake up to the call of seabirds and the lapping of little ripples. The ever-changing moods of the bay will entertain you on 3 sides year-round. See vibrant colors develop along the shore in October. In winter you can be toasty warm by the cozy fire, and watch the ice floats and wildlife on the bay all at once. If you are lucky enough to get snowfall, the views are pristine!

Seanook is a long-time family cottage, now a nearly complete year-round home. Experience this special place while it is available. Wireless internet provided.

A romantic getaway in any season -- you may decide to just sit and watch the play of light and wind on the water. See seagulls, osprey, and an occasional eagle soar. You'll observe a variety of ducks in winter, and perhaps a seal or a beaver in summer. Read a book or sunbathe on the upper deck. Go beach-combing to discover varied creatures that abound along the shore of the Gulf of Maine. Go kayaking if it's calm. Anglers of any age can fish right off the dock. Writers find Seanook a peaceful private retreat where they can work on their manuscripts. Day hikes in one of the many land preserves are a favorite outdoor activity. How about a romantic sail at sunset? Many boat excursions are offered in nearby Boothbay Harbor. Perhaps you would like deep sea fishing. You will also find lighthouse tours, museums, and art studios starting with nearby Paradise Studio.

Some of the best eateries are right here in Boothbay. The East Boothbay General Store has morning paper & coffee, breakfast pizza and gourmet take-out. Live theater has a dramatic presence in Boothbay Harbor with events nightly at the Opera House, including Family Night on Tuesdays. Afternoon tea is a yearly tradition with some of our long time renters. Visit the aquarium in summer, where children's programs and classes enhance the intimate quality of their hands-on coastal experience. Take a short boat ride to Burnt Island where costumed guides reenact life of a lighthouse keeper's family in 1950. Go antiquing, or gallery hopping starting with nearby Paradise Studio. L.L.Bean and other outlets are just an hour away in Freeport.

We do accept Visa and Master Card, but only if you are willing to pay an extra 2.75%. Check or cash is preferable. One half the total rent is payable in advance as a deposit to hold your time; the remainder is due on arrival. If you are unable to keep your reservation, we ask that you reschedule at another available time, or we can try to re-rent your dates less a $100 rebooking fee as long as you give us at least 30 days to do so.

Winter rates begin November 1 and go through May 22, 2015.

About Mary Ellen

When I purchased the family summer property, it needed complete revamping! I alternated a month in Colorado and a month in Boothbay while Paradise Cottage (my grandmother's summer house) was winterized and expanded, and Seanook (the vacation house of my childhood) was practically torn down and rebuilt. The early March morning after I arrived the final time to stay, I met Ron, who was working for my contractor on Seanook. Since then we have done all the work around the place ourselves. The following winter we built a scale model of our future shop/studio on the diningroom table and broke ground in August of 2000.

Mary Ellen purchased this cottage in 1997

Why Mary Ellen chose Boothbay Harbor

Seanook was purchased by my mother, a native Mainer, in 1947. At the time it was nothing more than a tiny three month summer bungalow, but as a child I loved the spot and everything about it . It was my life-long dream to return here to live. Now Ron and I stay on the property year-round. Every season is our favorite! We are forever changing and improving wherever we can. In everything we do we try to maintain some of the rustic seaside character of the place, and imbue it with our own personalities and creative curves.

What makes this cottage unique

To wake up every morning to the call of seabirds and songbirds and the quiet lapping of little waves, the varying moods of the ocean, the view towards the head of the bay with the sun creeping down that opposite shore, and the verdant Maine woods around is about as close to ideal as one can get and then to be bathed in fresh salt air all day long and to have that long view across the water right here for the looking any time gives one that relaxed 'aaah' feeling.

My husband and I have vacationed in the Boothbay
Harbor area for the past 23 years and have stayed
in a variety of inns, houses, and apartments.
Almost every year we have driven to or through East
Boothbay either to eat at Lobsterman's Wharf or on
our way to Ocean Point. We had no idea that just
off of the main road, there was a little piece of
heaven on Linekin Bay.

Our friends found Seanook Cottage on the internet
and booked the four of us for the last week of May.
We had the most relaxing, peaceful, wonderful
vacation there. The views from inside the house
and from the numerous decks are spectacular.
From our bedroom, the last thing we saw before we
closed our eyes at night was the full moon shining
on the beautiful water. The first thing we saw when
we woke up in the morning was the picturesque
sailboats and lobster boats. Across the bay, you
can see the architecture of both new and restored
houses and the Five Gables Inn nestled among the
wooded landscape. Just a short, brisk walk away
from Seanook through beautiful woods and along
the water is the wonderfully restored East Boothbay
General Store. They have a remarkable menu of
delicious salads, sandwiches, and pizza. And don't
forget the tasty breakfast pizza and muffins!

Seanook is only about three scenic miles from
Boothbay Harbor, where you can find a wide array
of shopping, dining, and harbor activities. The
Boothbay region is central to so much else in Mid-
Coast Maine, and daytrips are essential! Our
husbands played golf at the beautiful Samoset
Resort ("The Pebble Beach of the Atlantic"), where
most of the front nine holes are laid out along the
ocean. Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is a must and
one of our favorite spots. Freeport with all of its
great outlet stores is just a short drive away.

Seanook is undergoing a long restoration process,
but you will hardly know it because Ron and Mary
Ellen have made it so comfortable. I can't say
enough about their helpfulness and eagerness to
please their guests. Although you won't even
realize they are there unless you need them, it is
great to have your hosts so near by.

I must admit I hesitated to write these comments
out of selfishness. Seanook is like a rare gift that
you want to keep all to yourself! I can't wait until
our next visit. We feel that we have found our
home in the Boothbay region!

Fantastic, wonderful, loved it!

Staying at Seanook, one experiences the gift of Maine – rustic beauty and quiet elegance, all wrapped up by Mary Ellen and Ron with attention to detail, graciousness, and kindness.

Our family had relatives visiting from Sweden, and we wanted to give them a “Maine Experience”. After looking at a few houses, we decided upon “Seanook” and were not disappointed; in fact, our expectations for our days together were exceeded.

Our guests arrived in time for dinner, easily prepared in the well- equipped kitchen, and Mary Ellen had fixed the dining table so all 13 of us could sit together. It was already dark upon their arrival, so they had no idea of the spectacular sights in store for them in the morning- water on all sides, and a view from every bedroom. Furnishings are unique, thoughtful, artistic, and lovely. We felt like we were in someone’s very cared-for home, not a rental house.

It was simply the perfect spot to enjoy the natural beauty that is Maine, to sit by the fire for long visits, and to simply enjoy being together. We had sunny weather, rainy weather, and even a snowstorm (October!), most stores and restaurants were closed, and it did not make a bit of difference- we had a spectacular time. Four days was simply not long enough to enjoy what Seanook has to offer; we are already planning our next stay, and, in fact, I would like to stay forever!

Amazing location

  • 4 of 5
The location is amazing right on the ocean with incredible views. We really enjoyed watching the ocean and the beautiful sunsets. The house is a "work in progress", which is why we rated it 4 stars. Great tip from the owners to visit the coop for lobster, which we did twice. Very enjoyable stay with a well equipped kitchen. Thanks for the fresh flowers!

Paradise on the Water

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I have been taking Maine vacations for the past 10 years, and we have to rate this property as the nicest we've ever stayed in. The pictures don't do it justice. This house truly is right on the water. The views are great from every room in the house.

As far as amenities, anything you would need has been provided. The kitchen is very well equipped, and we really enjoyed staying in 3 nights out of our week's stay to make use of the gas grill and the lobster pots.

The house is very nicely furnished in a nautical theme (of course!), and the beds were very comfortable. I really can't say enough nice things about this property. Book it yourself and see!

Seanook - "A Piece of Heaven"

Seanook - "A Piece of Heaven"

There were six of us - six galpals who haven't spent time together for years. We arrived at Seanook on Saturday, November 6th, 2012. Maryellen met the first four girls and was very kind showing them all the amenities. When I arrived with another gal, the fire was going and supper was already made. The girls made themselves at home, easy to do in such lovely accomodations!
The kitchen has everything, we brought food and ate all our meals at Seanook. It was so nice to just kick back, relax and enjoy the beautiful views. There is plenty of comfortable seating and the fire was lovely. I can't believe all the windows!
We enjoyed a day in the town of Bath and explored Booth Bay. Although it is quite this time of year, it was serene and peaceful. Love the area!
I would recommend Seanook - it is wonderful!

A special place

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Seanook for three nights and had a wonderful time. the setting is lovely regardless of the weather...coastal fog creates an atmosphere for slowing down...sunshine is a gift of constant surprise. The home is warm and cozy with all the amenities one could want. All three bedrooms have terrific views. My only suggestion is for more reading lights downstairs but especially in the second bedroom.
I hope to return again!
