Oh my goodness!!! This was our second trip to A Beach Villa...I thought is was great the first time, however, I have to say that our return visit was fabulous. We came back with the couple that we travelled with on the first trip and we brought two additional couples with us. It is so hard to explain how wonderful it is until you experience it, but I will try! First of all, the villa is simply beautiful and has been maintained exceptionally well. We visited in 2009 and were just there, April 2012.
The property is just perfect. The addition of the outside bar and the cabana on the beach were perfect ammenities to add. As well there has been a face-lift of the furniture coverings on the outside porch as well as the bedrooms...at least the master bedroom, as that is where my husband and I slept. Fresh flowers throughout the villa were a special touch too!!
Aside from the material aspect of the villa, the staff at A Beach Villa are wonderful! We were lucky enough to have returned to Nicoy...what a fabulous chef. One wouldn't want to dine elsewhere after experiencing his cooking!! Fiona...she takes such good care of us!! And Andrew...keeps things looking great and always has a smile on his face!! We missed Verna, however, we were very lucky to have met and made friends Colroy!! What a great guy...he made our stay exceptional!! We came and spent a very relaxing five days at the villa and didn't have a worry in the world...very hard to go back home!!
Have to say....we looked forward to coming back to the villa, but we missed Ray Copeland our driver terribly!!! Raymond sealed the deal on the whole villa/driver package the first time we came....we had to do a repeat when we came back and we were definitely not dissappointed in his entertainment or the hospitality of the staff at the villa. If one comes to Jamaica I would so recommend A Beach Villa with Ray Copeland for a driver!! Thank you so much for providing us with a superb vacation!! Not a matter of if we'll be back...just when .
Afimi is truly a luxury villa finished to very high standards. The villa, grounds and beach are very clean and well-maintained by the excellent staff. We visited Doctor's Cave Beach on a quiet day - our driver (Raymond - excellent!) recommended a day that a cruise ship isn't in port. We also bought a day pass to the Hilton at Rose Hall to use their water park and all-inclusive facilities. The kids enjoyed the waterpark but it is expensive ($65US per adult and $45US for children) for what you get.
The food is fresh and well-prepared by the cook. We had the opportunity to shop with the butler at local markets and grocery stores. The highlight of our trip was the farewell bbq on the beach - complete with fire pit, torches and a massive bbq buffet.
The master bedroom is outstanding - beautiful deck overlooking the bay, and a massive ensuite and walk-in closet. The kids loved the flat screen TV above the bath!
We enjoyed the community pool, playground and tennis courts - all just a 2 minute walk from the villa.
The layout is perfect if you are travelling with children (we had children ages 2,3,4,5 and 8 with us). We were able to sit inside or outside and see the kids at all times whether they were playing on the beach, in the pool or on the lawn. We ate most meals poolside on the beautiful dining table. The view is breathtaking!
I would highly recommend this villa - it was a very memorable holiday.
There isn't much more we can write about this house and its wonderful staff that we have not already written. I mean this literally given that this was our *third* year staying here. The owners, who are warm and lovely people, make sure to keep the property fresh and vibrant. Each year there is a new amenity (like the sail boat or the ladder at the end of the dock) or something that has been done to make the property "like new"" (such as the fresh sand and cleared water's edge). The website photos are accurate.
The staff remains incredibly accommodating, friendly, and trustworthy. The process for meal selection and payment is as easy as can be; I think one reviewer may have complained about this, but for the life of me, I can't fathom how so. The staff could not be more welcoming and easy going, and paying for groceries (other than fresh fish) could be paid for with a credit card. How much easier can that be?
The area is very safe. We let our children walk to and from the courts for their lessons with Franco (a terrific instructor and a good man, Franco volunteers at an orphanage. We went with him one afternoon to volunteer. It is an experience I highly recommend. To note, they need shoes! Few children (tweens and teens) had any, but I digress.).
Our children made friends with the other children in the small neighborhood. We made friends with some of the neighbors - they are all warm and inviting. (Note: I am sure they are lovely, but we saw, but never met, the night owls who live next door. While yes, they are multi-generational and yes, gasp!, they do have a baby who has the audacity to cry (I mean, *come on* to the reviewer who complained about this. Of course babies cry sometimes. It is what it is.). They had little impact on our delightful stay.)
Ray remains an engaging driver. He has terrific stories! You don't need a car if you have Ray (and quite frankly, I would not want to drive myself).
Truly, we can't say enough wonderful things about Afimi or its amazing staff.
We throughly enjoyed our stay at Afimi. The house is every bit as fabulous as it looks in the pictures but it really is the staff that makes the stay there memorable. Colroy, Nic and Fiona took great care of us. We brought our 4 young children (7, 5, 2, & 1) and Nic made sure they had something delicious for each meal while also making completely different adult meals for my husband and me. He also made us a few Jamaican dishes to try, which we really enjoyed. We had delicious coffee delivered to us every morning and fresh smoothies for the kids and daiquiris for the grownups in the afternoon from Colroy. Fiona did our laundry and kept the house spotless. All in all this was a great vacation and it will be difficult to stay any other way than with a staff like people at Afimi.
There were some games and puzzles for the kids to play with, large flat screen tvs in every room and an awesome sound system that allowed us to listen to any kind of music we chose.
I would agree with other reviewers who say the beach is not exactly swimmable. Our kids had a great time playing in the sand and the water is very clear but my husband saw a huge group of large jellyfish when out kayaking (understandably, this is beyond the owners control, but they are still there!) and there was some kind of fish/jellyfish burrowed in the sand all over the shoreline and the staff told us we shouldn't go in the water without water shoes on. All that being said, we still had a great time looking for hermit crabs, sea urchins and sand crabs. The view is stunning, the pool is fantastic.
The owners were very helpful and answered our requests and questions quickly.
I whole heartedly recommend this beach villa to anyone, you won't regret it!
Our family needed to relax in the sun & unplug over Christmas Break, and the villa did not disappoint. Having a small pool was nice, but the water's chilly. Our family loved the sea kayaks, but the catamaran is only allowed for those skilled at sailing. We thought having a private beach would be great for snorkeling, but visibility was poor and the water was full of jellyfish and sandflies that stung.
Without question, the most exceptional aspect of the villa is the staff. Guests are extremely fortunate to have Colroy, Nic, and Fiona looking after their every need. They are courteous and accommodating and provide the most amazing service with grace and charm. Nic's cooking is great. Raymond the driver and Frank the tennis pro are also exceptional. Everyone associated with this villa are wonderful and become your friends by the end of the trip.
There is one word of caution: because the villa came with a full staff, we paid a high premium during Christmas week. We have rented homes in other parts of the Caribbean and in Bali all with staff, so it came as a shock when we discovered weeks before our departure that there is an additional prescribed 15% gratuity (based on your weekly rate) which you are fully expected to pay, which increased the cost significantly and unexpectedly. We always tip every member of the staff where ever we stay, but this was very steep, given the peak prices we were already paying. With other villas, the cost of the staff is dialed in, and the tip is discretionary. Had we known before booking, it is highly likely that we would have opted for another villa. You might be thinking that you could tip less, but after they pamper you all week, you will feel like a scoundrel for doing so.
An additional note. There is an empty lot across the street and it appears to be preparing to start building a house there. I would ask about the construction noise during your stay. On the noise issue, their immediate neighbor had a toddler that cried a lot, mostly at night. As a mother who've had a child with colic I understood, but my children who had their bedrooms on that side of the house commented many mornings about the loud neighbors and their crying child making it hard for them to fall asleep.
All in all, it was a wonderful experience which we would recommend to friends who are hoping to be waited upon hand and foot. It fell short of perfection, but was pretty sweet all the same.
My family and I stayed at AFIMI in December 2014 and it was by far the best vacation experience that we have had in Jamaica. From the onset, our communication with the owners was great. They were very responsive to my many emails and requests and extremely helpful in making arrangements for my sister’s birthday celebration.
The villa is truly outstanding and is exactly as depicted in the online pictures. The house is beautifully maintained and bedrooms are quite spacious and comfortable with lots of windows. My bedroom offered a spectacular view of the bay and I loved waking each morning and opening the windows for the view! There is also a beautiful upstairs deck overlooking the bay where we loved to hang out in the mornings and have our coffee. The downstairs had lots of comfortable sofas and chairs and the layout was such that we were able to move between the interior and exterior with ease.
The staff team at AFIMI was absolutely awesome – very professional but also kind and very friendly. A huge thank-you to Colroy, Fiona, Nicoy and Robert for making our stay so enjoyable and for all their help in making my sister’s birthday celebration so memorable. Colroy, the butler, was always accommodating and offered such impeccable service with a smile and a “no problem” attitude. Nicoy, the chef, prepared our fabulous meals with excellence, and was even kind enough to share some of his cooking secrets! Fiona, the housekeeper, kept our bedrooms and bathrooms looking fabulous and was so helpful in doing our laundry. It was so great returning home from vacation with clean clothes! The bottled water and pitcher with ice in our bedrooms at night was also a very nice touch that we loved! And finally Robert, the gardener and groundskeeper who we called “the grass whisperer,” worked tirelessly to keep the lawn, the beach and the entire exterior of the property looking gorgeous. The beach BBQ on our last night was also a special treat that we won’t soon forget.
Our driver and tour guide, Raymond (aka Ray-Ray, aka Mr. International), was simply the best. He was so easy-going and entertaining and always available at a moment’s notice. He is very knowledgeable about Jamaica and was always willing to answer any of our many questions. He made us feel like family and did not hesitate to take us where we wanted to go – even into the midst of a storm. :-)
We absolutely enjoyed our stay at AFIMI and are already making plans for our return trip.
My family and a friend, a total of six had a splendid vacation at the Villa Afimi. The property is as beautiful and impeccable as shown in the pictures. The staff which comprises of Colroy the butler, Nicoy the chef, Fiona the housekeeper and Robert the gardener and pool man. Colroy was always there to take care of all our needs. He was professional and very pleasant. Nicoy cooked all the delicious foods according to our requests. All of us wanted different things for breakfast. He whipped them all up quickly and everyone was very happy with him. Fiona kept the villa impeccable. Robert was always working industriously in the yard and on the beach.
We were very sad when we had to leave Heaven On Earth. We are returning to Afimi to have another blissful week in Paradise.
The villa is located in a Marine Park and Nature reserve so enjoy the peace and tranquility of bird watching or simply relaxing on the beach while sipping your favorite beverage while your every needs are catered.
Golf: AFIMI is also within minutes from 3 major golf courses at Tryall, Half Moon and White Witch.
