Gavinana - Galluzzo Villa Rental Photos and Description

Villa, 5 Bedrooms, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Only one mile from Porta Romana square (Piazzale di Porta Romana), a historical gate into the city of Florence, this beautiful typical Florentine villa is situated on the hill of 'Poggio Imperiale', immersed into the beauty of the Tuscan countryside surrounded by olive groves, gardens and fruit trees. The property looks out onto the beautiful Florentine hillside as well as Villa del Poggio Imperiale - from 1737 to 1860 residence of the 'Lorena' family, the Austrian Granddukes of Tuscany - and the Arcetri observatory where Galileo Galilei continued his astronomical research after being called to Florence in 1610 by Cosimo II dei Medici.

Location details: The villa is located only about one mile away from where the historic district of the city of Florence begins (Porta Romana square). The city center is thus easily and quickly accessible either by bus, taxi or rental car. The 'heart' of the city center, such as the world renowned Ponte Vecchio bridge and the Uffizi museum are only about 3 km (1.9 miles) away. The main train station (Santa Maria Novella) and Piazza Duomo only 4 km (2.4 miles) away.

The nearest bus station is within walking distance as it is only about 0.4 mile away from the villa. At the same location of the bus station there is also a few groceries stores, take out places, restaurant/pizzeria, pharmacy, etc.. Taxi service works very well too, as it only takes a few minutes to come and go from the heart of the historic district of the city to the villa.

Our prices are all inclusive: 3 hrs. daily housekeeping 5 times a week, 3 weekly towel changes, 1 weekly linens change, satellite tv, wireless internet connection, final cleaning, gated parking, private garden and private swimming pool.

The Villa estate has recently been fully remodeled and restored.

Rooms description: 4 double bedrooms, 1 single bedroom, 4 bathrooms (3 of them with shower stall, master bathroom with both tub and separate shower stall), dining room, fully furnished kitchen, living room with fireplace and 32' LCD TV and SKY satellite channels, office room, laundry room (with washer and dryer), terrace overlooking the pool and garden with new outdoors rattan furniture chairs and teak (wooden) table. Recently, a big awning with electronic switch was added to the terrace so that it can be entirely covered to protect from the sun.

On request there is also a full sofa-bed (with regular mattress) available at the villa for the eventual 10th guest.

back for the second time...even better then the first!

  • 5 of 5

I went back to this fabulous property for the second time and it was even better than the first!!! My friends and I really felt at home at this wonderful villa and we truly enjoyed every bit of our stay... Since the weather was exceptionally warm, although mid October we were able to swim in the pool everyday and enjoy the beautiful grounds!.. I am booking my best visit for April as I write and can't wait to go back to this idyllic location that I would recumbent to anyone.

I cannot say enough about our stay at this fabulous property near Florence. Location, location, location! The ease of access to the city center was remarkable via cab and bus. Nestled within beautiful countryside, it is an idyllic setting. The villa is immaculately kept as is the pool. Pool is relaxing to lounge around soaking up the Tuscan sun, whether you use it or not. The owners made you feel very welcome, were very accessible and wanted to make sure your experience was more than enjoyable. I am already making plans to return in the hopefully not too distant future..

Fantastic stay!

  • 5 of 5

The location is exceptional! (You get the Tuscan countryside experience yet the city of Florence is a 5 minute bus stop away). Every day we just walked down the road to the bus stop and easily got to the centre of town.

The house is immaculately kept and tastefully decorated, the bathrooms are amongst the very best I have seen in Italy and the kitchen is perfectly stocked to cook anything you like.

The villa’s grounds and gardens are lovely and really well kept. Even though we could not swim (since the pool opens the last weekend of April) we enjoyed the outdoor very much and sat outside with a glass of wine or a coffee while taking in the olive groves and typical Tuscan countryside all around, a dream!

Our host Antonello was exceptionally helpful with any enquiry making our trip a real holiday! I can’t recommend this villa enough!...I will be back in October 2014 and I can’t wait!

Great Tuscan Homebase

  • 5 of 5

My partner and mother and friends just had a nine night stay at the house. The house is very nice and perfect for a group. There were a couple of sitting rooms and the master bedroom was gracious and comfortable. The grounds are not as manicured as the pictures and the pool was covered, but the area is gorgeous and the vistas of the Tuscan hills are amazing. This is a really amazing place. The housekeeper Butch is a real asset to the estate. He was so nice to our mother while we were there. She did not feel well for a few days of the visit and frequently checked in on her and even walked the grounds a bit with her to make sure she was safe. Also he kept the house spotless and was very friendly and full of information. One thing that you must know before staying here is that a car is a bit of a problem. Its great for road trips around Tuscany, but as much as we love Florence, parking there is practically impossible. We took taxis from the house, which were very convenient and very fast. It is only a mile to Porto Romana, but walking the road there is very very dangerous. There is no sidewalk for much of it and cars speeding past. Pulling out of the driveway in our rented car was scary everytime with only a mirror on a post to let you know what was coming your way. The property is gated and you will feel very safe there and I loved having my coffee outside every morning before getting my day started. Antonello the owner greeted us and was excellent about explaining things. We ate at three of his restaurant recommendations and Butch's gelato recommendation all of which were excellent. Buco del Orafo which had the best Bistecca Fiorentina I have ever had. There is a nice pizzeria and grocery stores and pasticceria. The locals were very friendly and helpful and we managed to get everything we needed for the house even with our limited Italian. Overall we felt very comfortable here and thought it was a great homebase for exploring Tuscany.

Family and Friends Vacation of a Lifetime

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Villa from September 28 through October 5 2013 and the place was fantastic. We had the chef prepare a fabulous meal the first evening that we arrived and it was better than any restaurant

that we ate at in our two week stay in Italy. The owners and the housekeeper were very helpful in assisting us in planning our time in Florence and providing us with assistance each day as needed. They took time out from their busy schedules to visit with us and answer any questions that we had. The Villa is a brief taxi ride into Florence but yet nestled in a country like setting in the beautiful hillside. Even though the pictures you see are beautiful they do not prepare you for the beauty of the place. The rooms and the pool are fantastic and are immaculate. We took excursions into the city, to Cinque Terra, Venice, and Lucca from the Villa and it was a short taxi ride to get to the train station. The taxi company is very familiar with the Villa. We always enjoyed coming back to the Villa and relaxing around the pool or the dining table with a glass of Vino. There were 8 of us and the accommodations were perfect for us. We highly recommend the Piazzale Michelangelo to anyone who wishes to have a fabulous stay in Florence. Antonello, the son of the owner, can provide you with a list of many great things to do in Florence and the surrounding area. All 8 of us would return and rent the Villa in a heartbeat we loved it. It is a real bargain for the price.

Magnificent villa, terrific hosts - very comfortable and quiet

  • 5 of 5

It took us some time to find a perfect luxury villa with a smart pool. Villa Le Fontanine had the style, peace, seclusion and everything we needed (including good Wifi!) for a wonderful week in Florence. Everything was well maintained and spotlessly clean. The listings were very helpful, but in fact, we were more than impressed when we arrived. Do check carefully on map to find the entrance!

We were four couples and would recommend that the 4th bedroom through the 3rd bedroom with shared bathroom is considered, if you all value privacy! There seems to be a good SkyTV package available, but we had too much else to do - but could be useful for kids!

Assume that you should drive to the city centre - with its very challenging parking - as the road is too narrow for safe walking - if you need taxis, a better option, check with the most welcoming hosts to make sure you use the best company.

We had Gianni cook dinner for us all one evening - his menu choices were excellent as was the service; the food was delicious and certainly a match for the best in Florence centre.

We plan to return with family and friends soon and do not know of a better location to explore Florence and surrounding areas. La Fontanine is a highly recommended Villa.
