Overview

Hilo House Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2

Aloha and welcome to Mika Mizu, serenity in Hilo. Here you will experience a unique and memorable Hawaiian vacation. Mika Mizu is a spacious, but cozy one bedroom cottage, all on one level, no steps! We suggest 2 guests but it will accommodate up to 3. This beautiful cottage is located in a soothing and natural setting on an estate with two waterfalls and abundant flora and fauna. It is less than one mile to historic downtown Hilo, yet you feel far removed. The cottage is stocked with amenities such as spices and cooking staples in an efficiency kitchen with a full size refrigerator, a built-in 2-burner stovetop, a microwave/convection oven, a toaster and a gas BBQ grill for outdoor cooking. Also provided are both high speed internet/WiFi and cable TV. It has been tastefully furnished in a casually elegant Island style, creating a very congenial ambiance for your comfort and enjoyment. At these extremely low rates, you will be amazed at this wonderful vacation find.

Hilo is the second largest city in the Hawaiian Islands. There is a four-year University of Hawaii campus in Hilo, several fine restaurants, a Tsunami museum, and interesting events occurring at all times of the year. The natural beauty of the area is astounding. Many waterfalls, nature hikes, boogie boarding, surfing, botanical gardens, and scenic drives through rainforests are all nearby. Volcano National Park is approximately 45 minutes away. Kailua-Kona, the tourist area of the Big Island, with its many high-end Kohala Coast hotels, is one and a half hours away. Waimea, the paniolo (cowboy) region of Parker Ranch fame is approximately one hour. The Waipio Valley and its lovely lookout is one hour. You can take helicopter rides over this taro-filled valley with its dramatic cliffs that plunge to the sea. You can do the same if you wish to see what our very active Kilaeua Volcano is up to. And Mauna Kea, our gigantic mountain with its world renowned Keck Observatory, might be snow capped while you are here - quite the sight looking up from the shores of the blue Pacific.

Note: Mika Mizu is not appropriate for children under 6 years

About The Owner

We met in Hawaii, fell in love in Hawaii....and the rest is history. Now we get to share our good fortune with guests from around the world.

Why The Owner chose Hilo

We are happy to have this wonderful cottage in Hawaii, and we love the Big Island, its many sights and its friendly people. Hilo gives one the chance to get a feel of the real Hawaii. The Farmers Market in town is a profusion of color from the many exotic flowers, fruits, and native crafts. One comes away with one comes away with a special feeling after exploring this unique area.

What makes this house unique

Great price for a beautifully furnished, comfortable and spacious cottage, located right in Hilo. Easy to get to many of the Big Island sights, lots to do and see.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Sadly we are at the end of our stay here in your lovely, comfortable Mika Mizu. Everything was just as we remembered from our previous visit - down to the generous gift basket. It was a lovely stay and we hope to return one day. Mahalo.

Great Jungle Setting

  • 5 of 5

We loved sitting on the lanai and just soaking in the jungle. It was a little buggy down by the pond and waterfall, but not bad at all up on the lanai. The chorus of coqui frogs every night really made us feel like we were in some far-off paradise (which I guess we were). Great access to Hilo; the Magic Pan crepes place was really good; we stayed home and cooked or grilled our own meals the other nights. Everything needed was in the kitchen. We have also stayed at another of Jamie and Noi's places (Mika Lani), and they keep their places very clean, well-maintained, and well-appointed. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a private getaway in the jungle with immediate access to Hilo.

SIX STARS -SENSATIONAL!

  • 5 of 5

Crossing the small bridge onto Reeds Island and driving up the narrow and winding hill in this beautiful residential area and walking into this vacation home is just stunning. It is perfect for two; spacious , secluded, and so comfortable with everything you could possible need for your stay. We stayed in a small B&B last year in hilo for a week and for practically the same amount we got so much more at this property. We love the hilo area and all the sights you can easily travel to. Another week this year in hilo gave us the time to enjoy all the sights and relax. The photos and other reviews listed are right on and not exaggerated; you will love it here. The house is only one of two that I have rented in the last four years in Europe and USA that have been super unbelievably clean. This perfection to detail and superb professionalism in the booking process is due to Jamie and Noi as they strive to make your Hawaiian experience most memorable. We are coming back next year to enjoy another MIka Mizu week of sheer bliss.

Tropical Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in the hideaway of Mika Mizu. We'd just arrived from 8 days on Oahu, and the contrast of the jungle cottage to Waikiki's busy streets was really breathtaking. We enjoyed both walks down to the waterfalls. It was a great base location from which to see Akaka Falls, the Volcanoes National Park, Boiling Pots, etc. Our favorite part was probably the lanai--what a great view of the lush scenery; and the jungle setting was enhanced by the gorgeous world travel decorations inside. The travel book was helpful to find places to eat. Finally, across planning three condo stays for two weeks in Hawaii, Jamie was easily the best to work with and most accommodating--we'd recommend Mika Mizu to anyone considering Hawaii!

Tree top paradise

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely beautiful little paradise. The cottage not only looks exactly like the pictures - it's better! You thought of every possible detail to make this a perfect stay in the treetops. So close to downtown Hilo, only you would never know it as it is so secluded. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Perfect Hilo Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Mika Misu is a quiet, charming getaway close enough for a leisurely walk into downtown Hilo (about a mile) and full of wonderful and welcome touches. There's a surprise welcome basket of Hawaiian goodies, wifi, a deck, and your own private waterfall!

Everything is clean and well cared for and perfectly described in the posting - didn't need a thing. We appreciated how attentive the owners were to providing instructions and clear directions. We were looking for an alternative to a hotel, and when we come back to Hilo, we're planning on returning to Mika Misu and you should too!

Delightful paradise retreat

  • 5 of 5

At the end of a road of lovely homes and cottages you drive down a long drive to Mika Mizu and step into a perfect environment to enjoy a stay while exploring the east side of the island. A welcoming basket of Hawaiian goodies and the jungle sounds of chirping frogs and birds offers a treat to the senses and the warmth of welcome and promise of relaxation. We loved the balcony overlooking the beautiful vegetation and found the private pond and waterfall a unique hideaway to indulge in. Exceeded our expectations in every way!
