A COZY COTTAGE WITH BREATHTAKING VIEWS OF THE PACIFIC OCEAN

  • 5 of 5
The pictures you see on the website don't do this property justice. In fact, I became very frustrated with my own pictures-- because I could never quite capture the the amazing views my eyes were taking in.

This property is a true find if you want solitude, privacy, and ownership of the Pacific. Perched high on a bluff overlooking a rocky beach, the views from the living room are 180 degrees. The house itself (2 bedroom, 1 bathroom) is nothing terribly modern or spacious, but it didn't matter, because my wife and I never wanted to leave the main room with the big picture windows. Fortunately, there is a full size futon in front of those windows, and a gas fireplace directly to the right. Nothing compared to sleeping to the stars at night and waking up to the vastness of water in front of us.

Again, don't expect a modern house. This cottage was probably built in the 50's, and the bathroom fixtures (pedestal sink and claw foot tub with curtains) are era appropriate. But it does come with expanded cable tv and HBO, a spacious, open kitchen... and memories of relaxation to last a lifetime.

One word of caution: as this property is off an unpaved road, I would not recommend driving a low-suspension vehicle up to the house. The road has a few potholes and a raised center in some areas that could scrape the bottom of subcompacts and sports cars.

THE PERFECT RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
We spent 3 remarkable weeks at the Bluff House in October – November 2013. Its secluded location and spectacular ocean view were exactly what we needed to get away from our hectic life in the Bay Area.
During our stay we spotted migrating whales, geese and ducks. Our neighbors were deer, quails, cats and the most amazing birds. Even our little dogs loved bird watching.
We enjoyed miraculous sunsets, astonishing stars, tides rolling in and out, surfers in the waves, dogs on the beach, the fire pit, lighthouses and fresh ocean air.
This is the perfect place to get away from it all and relax, refresh and renew.

MESMERIZING VIEWS

  • 5 of 5
The view from Bluff House was mesmerizing. We couldn't get enough of it. The view of the rocks below and Trinidad Head to the North was constantly changing due to lighting conditions. At times the huge windows in the living room would remind you of an IMAX theatre screen. It just looked too vivid and colorful to be real. The house itself was well equipped with everything from beach towels to items for the grill. With the windows open you could hear the waves below and feel the ocean breeze, but with them closed, the house was very quiet with no outside noise coming in whatsoever. It was clean and we had no issues with maintenance or anything not working. We never saw another living soul while we were at the house except on the beach below. Very private setting with lush vegetation and flowers (which smelled wonderful) forming a privacy barrier around the yard. Did I mention the spectacular 180 degree ocean views? If the house had been a tent, we'd probably still feel like we got our money's worth. The patio was a wonderful place to kick back and just watch the waves come in. We grilled out a couple of nights and cooked hot dogs and smores at the fire pit a couple of others with the kids. Murphy's Market is just a few minutes drive from the house and has an excellent inventory. We spent a couple of days in the redwood parks (Fern Canyon and the Cathedral Tree Trail (off Big Tree Loop) in Prairie Creek were our favorites) but honestly, Trinidad and it's beautiful rugged beaches were the highlight of the trip. College Cove is a must see and we really enjoyed Patrick's Point State Park. I'd highly recommend this house for anyone wanting to visit the Northern California Coast and the Redwoods with only one caveat: be careful, you may not want to leave Bluff House to do anything else.

BLUFF HOUSE

  • 5 of 5
My note to Beverly:

Just letting you know how much we enjoyed our visit to Bluff House. This is the first time we have rented a home for a vacation. You made everything go so smoothly with your informational e-mails and paper work that outlined everything we had to do to prepare for our visit. The notes around the house were great reminders without having to go to our files to look things up.

Much of our visit was overcast but that did not effect the amazing 180 degree views of the ocean from the great room windows. We especially enjoyed watching the waves come crashing into the sea stacks that line the coast. I think the surfers enjoyed it, too. They were there every day. The folder you had on the kitchen counter with all the pamphlets of areas to visit helped us to plan our days. Whether we were walking through magnificent redwood forests or finding treasures on the beach or stopping to shop each day was full.

The kitchen was well stocked, the linens clean and fresh, the beds very comfortable. I wish we could have spent more time out on the patio but we did barbeque steaks one night and enjoyed the ocean breeze. Even the occasional rain shower didn't slow down any of our plans. Maybe next time we will get to have a fire in the firepit.

OCEAN VIEWS LIKE NONE OTHER!

  • 5 of 5
We loved arriving after a long drive to a surprise of walking through the ivy covered gate to beautiful and private ocean views high above the beach. We all felt right at home in the cottage. Plenty of room in the kitchen and living room. The kids loved the game system. Even the little ones felt right at home with kids books and bath toys. The area was amazing with Patrick's Point State Park ~ what a gorgeous area to explore. The beach directly below the house was worth getting to as well. We were able to see tide pools with starfish and other oceanic life. And so close to see the Redwoods too!
Well maintained and comfortable property. The washer/dryer was in working condition. A plus having a grill on the property as well.
Even the evenings were fun watching the sunset over the sea and making a fire/roasting marshmallows in the fire pit!
We could easily have stayed a week, or longer.

BEST VACATION EVER!!!

  • 5 of 5
We have traveled all over this beautiful country but nothing compares to the beautiful views you will experience from outside or right from the sofa in the living room. All the conveniences and extras you would want are available during your stay. Having these items allowed us to spend our time as a family just like we would have at home. I appreciated the attention to detail and QUALITY of the items available. Something as simple as a quiet dishwasher so you continue to enjoy the soothing sounds of the ocean. The down sofa for a more comfortable sit to the wonderful bed linens. You will enjoy the huge gas grill and the relaxing fire pit. We only ate out once in 7 days taking advantage of the well stocked kitchen from olive oil to most spices. The farmers market will provide you with all the fresh produce you would want. Be sure to try the fresh strawberries!!!! All these little things makes the Bluff House worth every penny and a stay you will never forget. This is one of our most relaxing and enjoyable family vacations. Many thanks to everyone at the Bluff House who contribute to making such a wonderful vacation possible.
