About Catherine Costopoulos

My husband David and I (married for over 20 yrs) have owned the Sharpsburg Cottage since 2000 when our second daughter Christina was born. David is a General Contractor and I manage commercial office buildings for a living, we commit to one capital improvement of the property every year. It is a blessing that David is so talented and can do most of the work himself. We live in Silver Spring Maryland and have two teenage daughters in private School. Being a Sr. Property Manager with over 20 years experience managing rental properties. I love working with our clients and hearing their stories of how much the enjoyed staying at the cottage. We love to spend time in the country and because it is only 1 hr from the house we can get there and back easily in a weekend. What a great place to relax. I hope you will come and visit us sometime. Take care, Catherine

Catherine Costopoulos purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Catherine Costopoulos chose Sharpsburg

Because it is only 1 hr from the city. It is a great get away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. You can really relax here at the cottage. Take a nap on the hammock or unwind in the hot tub.

What makes this cottage unique

We fell in love with this property because of its location. The C&O Canal Tow Path (MM71) is located just beyond our front yard. We spend time walking and biking along the path during our visits to the house. There is a small country store two doors down where you can walk and get ice cream (Barrons Country Store). One of the first things we do is walk down to the river and take a dip. We are five minutes from Antietam and close to many other local attractions. We would spend every weekend in the country if we could. The cottage is fully equipped as if it were are primary residence. Our lives have become very busy so we don't spend as much time as we would like, so we have decided to share our wonderful home with others. ENJOY!!

Helpful votes:0/0. We rent a lot of homes within the DC area and this home has by far been the best we've ever rented. We loved the quiet location and close proximity to the C&O canal towpath, Antietam, Shepherdstown and Harpers Ferry. The local hike and bike trails are phenomenal for outdoor enthusiasts and walking on the towpath is great in summer because of the dense tree cover providing shade. We didn't even mind the lack of internet and cell access because it felt good to be disconnected for a change. FYI, Verizon never works well within the West Virginia area and probably will be hard to change. The house was immaculate and extremely well-stocked, and that's even allowing for doggie guests which is fantastic for us. Our dog loved the access to the river at Snyder's Landing (so will kids). Our favorite place to eat with dogs was Blue Moon Cafe in Shepherdstown which allow dogs on their beautiful garden patio. We loved it and will be back in the spring to see the river without the leaves. Thank you, Catherine and David.

My Response We are so happy you all enjoyed your stay! Looking forward to having you back again in the Spring!

Relaxing retreat near Civil War history

  • 5 of 5

Quiet property right on the Potomac River and C&O Towpath. We went to the Antietam battlefield, Harper's Ferry, Shepherdstown, WV and took some nice bike rides on the towpath. Hot tub on the deck was wonderful, especially on the chilly spring mornings and nights. Great cottage and some much-needed quality family time.

Great little house in perfect setting

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four spent a great spring getaway here. The location was perfect -- secluded, yet convenient, and right on the C&O canal towpath where we biked and hiked. The house was comfortable, clean, and well suited for our family. The setting was beautiful, surrounded by trees with a river view and the sounds of nature. We enjoyed the ample outdoor space, with a spot for everyone to relax (hammock, porch swing Adirondack chairs, tables), read, listen to the birds, roast marshmallows in the fire pit, and soak in the hot tub. The kids liked playing in the tree house and exploring the yard. We all liked feeling like we were far away without traveling far.

Beautiful and cozy

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I stayed for the weekend to celebrate a 30th birthday, and I'm glad we picked this place. The house is as described and many more. We loved being in the hot tub at night and glazing at the stars. When we woke up in the morning, the living room window/glass door has the best view of the front yard and C&O Towpath. It was a beautiful sight to wake up to and have breakfast, especially during the fall season. The house decoration was amicably done to feel cozy and well maintained, it truly felt like home. Harper Ferry was a short drive away and worth visiting. We find the red binder (Owner's note and recommendation) very helpful and both towns (Sharpsburg and Shepherd ) super cute. I'm definitely keeping this place in mind for future getaways and recommending it to friends and co-workers.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful cottage with us.

Ahh! Peace and Quiet!

  • 5 of 5

After a very stressful year, we needed a simple getaway, and were delighted to find this cottage in a part of Maryland we love--the C&O canal in Sharpsburg. The location and house did not disappoint. We brought our bikes and kayaks, and used the car only to get food provisions. Sitting on the deck in the morning light drinking coffee, or in the hot tub at night watching shooting stars, our stresses melted away. The house was very clean, comfortable, well appointed and couldn't ask for any cooking utensil that wasn't there. Loved the retro stove! We look forward to other opportunities to rent this cottage.

Remote but accessible to LOTS to do!

  • 4 of 5

This is a great getaway. Private but close to loads of civil war battlefields if you like that sort of thing; accessible to DC or Baltimore in about an hour and a half.

The house is immaculately kept and the ammenities are super comfortable: lots of fluffy towels and squashy pillows, comfortable beds, the AC works great and we really enjoyed the hot tub. The kitchen is well equipped which was a plus for me, but if you don't want to cook Shepherdstown is right up the road.

It was especially nice to be able to bring our dog who loved the yard.

The only downer was no internet access and very spotty phone service but the privacy and quiet was a good trade there.

Thanks for a great week!
