OCEANFRONT CHALET WITH PRIVACY AND SPECTACULAR VIEWS. ROMANTIC OR FAMILY GETAWAY

I would like to thank the Bagleys for sharing their wonderful house with us. We planned a family "reunion", and we were not disappointed; it was a pleasure having it in Hancock, and at this location. My brother lives in Hancock and my sons and families are in Ellsworth and Southwest Harbor, but I'm from Florida and our other siblings came in from Virginia and Alabama, as well as our Mom and step-Dad.

The house is very spacious with plenty of room for many. We had 10 adults and a baby and had lots of room for everyone and plenty of hot water for showers. On Monday, our reunion day, we had 20 people mostly outside on the front deck, and enjoyed every minute of a beautiful day.

My sisters hadn't been back to Hancock in over twenty years, so we "toured" the Eastside and Westside Roads, reminising of who used to live where; also Hancock Point and Carter's Beach. And no vacation to the area is complete without visiting Cadillac Mountain and the Village Green in Bar Harbor; but we ate at Jordan's Snack Bar in Ellsworth ~ the best place for fried clams!

I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation spot for a few or for many. It is within a short drive of all the tourist attractions, or shopping; but on rainy days the rec room has many games to keep every age entertained ~ we had Cribbage challenges almost every evening, and the big "kids" played some aggressive ping pong :)

The pictures do not do it justice. The chalet and the grounds are beautiful, spacious, and thoughtfully laid out. We came from Michigan as grandparents, parents, and children ranging in age from 2 months to 9 years old and were unsure how it would all work. Would the kids be safe? Was there enough for them to do? How deep and how accessible is the water? We were pleasantly surprised at what was available. There is a tall, beautiful staircase going to the second floor (two large bedrooms plus the loft upstairs, the master suite and a bedroom on the main floor). Both the staircase to the upstairs and the staircase to the basement had solid gates available at the top and bottom of the stairs. There was a great swing/play set outside and half the basement was equipped with children's toys, accessories (stroller, high chair, booster seat) and activities ranging from infant bouncy seats through the teen years.

The large deck across the front has several tables with chairs for outdoor eating and adirondack chairs across the grounds below the deck for relaxation. The lawn is huge. Beyond the lawn, the waterfront is tree-lined and rocky. The kids loved searching the seaweed for crabs and exploring the rocks as the water is initially quite shallow. We did have an adult supervising down by the water when the kids were there.

The master suite is large with a double sink, whirl pool tub, and dual shower. All the bedrooms were practically sound proof, and the carpets thick and soft. We were glad to know that the previously mentioned trash situation has been rectified by the placement of a large dumpster. The only thing that seemed puzzling was the beautiful state of the art kitchen that was missing small, relatively inexpensive things like a cutting board, metal cooking utensils (instead of flimsy plastic ones) and plastic mixing bowls. We bought and left a small cutting board, rubber spatulas, and extra dishtowels. We were glad to contribute to a place that provided us with such warm, life-long memories and we would do it again in a heartbeat.

We stayed for one week August 2010. The place is nice and big with plenty of room for big families. About every other year we take a big extended family vacation and share space. We had 10 people staying and we did not feel cramped at all. The kitchen is huge as is the great room. The basement rec room is a great place for the kids to hang out. The house is situated right on the bay and the yard is big and flat. Kids can run all day outside. Kitchen appliances are new and the gas stove is a cook's dream. Top notch. Very friendly area. The neighbor came over and chatted a bit and gave us some history of the area and property. That was nice. One downside is the property does not have AC, but we really didn't need it during our stay. Weather was nice enough and not getting warmer than 85 with no humidity. There is shopping in Ellsworth which isn't too far. For lobsters, we went up the road to Tracy's. They had the cheapest lobsters I saw anywhere in the area. Don't miss Schoodic Point and the Tidal Falls. Bar Harbor is about 30-40 minutes away depending on traffic. There is also a small ferry that runs from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor. Went to Ruth and Wimpy's one day for dinner. I'd give that a So So review. It was hot in there and lots O flies. Try the Sullivan Cafe down the road. Hole in the wall but good food and a good value. Take a drive around the area including Schoodic and Mt. Desert Island. The scenery is unbelievable. Of all of the places I've been, I think I could easily summer in Maine and not get bored. You won't go wrong renting this house. Looks like they have plans for a garage in the future. Couple of critiques because no place is perfect. 1. It could use a couple more trash cans for garbage. Critters get in the trash bags. 2. Finish the stairs going to mudroom. 3. Upstairs beds just a bit hard. The place is great and I would rent again without hesitation. Perfect for a family or couple of families to share. Property has a couple kayaks to explore the bay also. I'd like to live there actually. The place is great. Can't wait to go back.
