La Primavera is a really cozy house - a comfortable spot where guests will immediately feel at home. The owner has skilfully restored her house, keeping the original patina and many antique features: cupboards built into the walls, terracotta floors, sturdy wooden beams, the arches in the former stables ... and last but not least the unique, ancient fireplace. This open fireplace is so large that one can step into it: there are wooden benches along the side, allowing one to warm oneself right next to the fire. La Primavera has three bedrooms: two double bedrooms (access to one through the other!) and a twin bedroom in a tiny attic (suitable for children). A family of 6 people could be accommodated, the house is best suitable for a family of 4.

La Primavera sits in Rocca d'Orcia, a small hilltop village in the striking Orcia Valley, an enchanting and miraculously unspoilt valley in southern Tuscany, listed as UNESCO world heritage in 2004. Just down the hill is the picturesque village of Bagni Vignoni, and it is just a short drive away from Pienza, a captivating town offering unexpectedly high-quality Renaissance architecture and the best sheep's cheese in Tuscany. The Orcia valley is above all renowned for its Brunello wine (as well as the less pricey Rosso di Montalcino) and the succulent T-bone steaks from the wide-horned white Chianina cattle. Siena, Cortona, Arezzo, Orvieto, San Gimignano, Volterra, Perugia, Viterbo and a wealth of sites and attractions are within easy reach.
THE LAYOUT OF THE HOUSE
External steps lead to the entrance hall
1 living room with fireplace
1 kitchen-living room
1 bathroom (bathtub)
2 double rooms (access to one room through the other)
1 small twin bedroom (best suitable for children)
1 further living room (external access only)
On the main floor there is a living room with fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, attractively furnished like all the other rooms, and a bathroom. The basement has a second, spacious living room accessible only from outside (not from the other rooms) since it used to house the stables in the past. The top floor has three bedrooms: 2 double bedrooms (access to one through the other!) and a twin bedroom in a tiny attic (suitable for children).
A small raised area near the entrance provides a delightful seated terrace, overgrown with grapevines - just large enough for 4 people to sit and enjoy the surroundings. Views of the old stone houses, opposite, just as nice as La Primavera.
There is also a small garden (the former vegetable garden), which lies (as was often the case then) at a slight distance from the house. Go up the alleyway, along a grassy path and after a few more steps you will reach a delightful garden. The garden is large enough to seat 6 people (2 sun-loungers also available) and has wonderful views of the hilly landscape.
ABOUT ROCCA D`ORCIA AND THE REGION
The house is located on the edge of the peaceful Rocca d'Orcia. This hamlet with about 150 inhabitants nestles up to one of the typical hills in the region and has sprung up around a medieval fortress (Rocca). The height of the fortress (600 m) provides outstanding views of the surrounding countryside. The alleyways of the hamlet are cobbled and romantically lit-up with antique lanterns at night, the houses are made of natural stones. There is a wonderful old square with the old village well and a trattoria with the inviting slogan: 'It's easy to come in but difficult to leave us'. We can confirm this. The next grocery shop is in Castiglione d`Orcia, 1 km from the house. Castiglione has also an Internet point in a shop for stationery (approx. 700 m from the house / 9 minutes walking).
Although La Primavera does not have a pool, children will not be bored here. Just below the Rocca we find the town of Bagno Vignoni (3 km), with its particulary impressive ancient square: the houses are built around a central pool, the palazzi around the square look out onto steaming water... in the Quattrocento people used to bathe here... Today there are beautiful open-air thermal baths and next-door, the spa center. The relaxing spa atmosphere is wonderful also during the summer months. San Quirico d'Orcia, roughly 7 km away, has also a large open-air swimming pool. Another option is the Bagni San Filippo spa (20 km). It may go into the books as the world's smallest thermal spa - a few old houses, outdoor spring in the middle of the woods with glistening limestone formations and one small hotel with a public pool. The waters of the thermal spa centre of Bagni San Filippo are of best quality. The surrounding countryside is full of surprising cultural treasures suitable for excursions.
