The big, wide, clean beach is beautiful -- and it's a great swimming beach. It's also great for fishing, kayaking, wave running, surfing (board and body), shelling, walking/running, sunning, and watching for dolphins. There are no life guards. People tend to swim in the ocean from mid-May to mid-October. The swimming pool is available May 15 to October 15. The hot tub is always available. The closest commercial airport and major town is Norfolk, VA which is about 85 miles away -- about a two-hour drive. You can rent four-wheel drive vehicles at most rental agencies there. A Ford Explorer or Jeep Grand Cherokee will rent for between $400 to $500 a week, depending on the season. It's a good idea to reserve such a vehicle in advance, because they are very popular. Four-wheel drives can also be rented in the Corolla area; but they are more difficult to find and more expensive there.
