Deer Ridge is located in the great northwoods of Wisconsin. This area provides YEAR-ROUND activities for the entire family. Deer Ridge has been completely renovated and sits on the shore of Big St Germain. It is nestled among 100 year old pines. The shoreline is sandy, shallow and excellent for swimming.
Big St Germain Lake is a 1600 acre Class 'A' Musky lake. It also offers many other species of fish (panfish, small and large mouth bass, northern pike, crappie and others). A new 14' jon fishing boat is included.
Deer Ridge is only minutes away from a variety of the Northwood's best hiking and biking trails, including the new paved St Germain Bike Trail with its gentle terrain. Awassa Nature Preserve Trail and Fern Ridge Hiking Trail are close by. Golf, horseback riding, shopping, dining, and much more are available year-round.
St Germain's winter wonderland offers ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing on the nearby trails and snowmobiling. The scenic Bo-Boen snowmobile trail is adjacent to the cabin.
Deer Ridge has a total knotty pine interior, wood fireplace and sleeps up to 5 people. The kitchen is fully equipped (don't forget to bring your own food!). Enjoy nature at its finest - the deer really do walk right past the cabin!

This trip was our first real "Family Vacation" and I will tell you that Deer Ridge helped make this trip a life lasting memory! From the moment we arrived everything was perfect. It was easy to get to the cabin with the directions provided and parking was not a problem. The area felt very secure and was at ease letting the kids (5 and 8) ride their bikes around the property. I immediately noticed how well the cabin and grounds were maintained. Everything was kept nice and orderly. The inside of the cabin was spotless. From the kitchen to the bathroom, everything was very clean. We did plan our trip at the end of summer but the weather was hot and humid. The nights did cool down a bit but without A/C it was a touch stuffy inside. Oh, and be sure to take your garbage to the dumpster every night or you will be aroused out of bed by a gang of raccoons! LOL!!! My mistake!!!
The outdoor activities were amazing!!! The row boat was great to just get out on the lake and relax with the kids as my wife sat on the dock reading her book. The fishing from the pier was great. We caught some keeper size fish but we did toss them back for others to catch. The nightly fires down by the lake were great. We sat down there and just let the time pass. The kids and I laid on the pier each night and watched the blanket of stars overhead with the occasional satellite passing over.
The attractions around the cabin were great. There are many restaurants and bars only minutes from the cabin as well as gas stations and the grocery store that we visited every day! Minocqua and Eagle River are just a short drive from the cabin which added a bit more variety to our stay. Both of those towns are fantastic and have lots to offer but it was nice to get back to the cabin after a day of tourist stuff and leave the hustle and bustle behind.
All in all, this trip was perfect! The cabin was awesome and the Northwoods were spectacular! I would recommend this cabin to anyone!
It was everything we could have hoped for. Beautiful cabin on a beautiful lake with all the conveniences of home. Had a fire at dark next to the lake every day we stayed. Fishing was good and thanks for the boat as well. We enjoyed exploring both Eagle River and Minoqua and had a great breakfast the day we left at the Wolf Pack Cafe...Pancakes were amazing. Took our bikes and discovered you can ride around Big St Germain Lake. 15 miles of great scenery. Played 9 holes at Eagle River Golf Course. We saw countless deer and eagles flew to their nest every day we were fishing. We hope to return soon. You have a north woods gem
For the last several years, we have stayed at Deer Ridge and most years, three or four times each season. We enjoy the warmth and coziness of the cabin - it is always ready for us with everything we need. It has a nice boat launch nearby with a place to park a trailer. It offers a semi-private pier to dock your boat on a quiet fishing lake. The pier also offers a place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or an evening glass of wine to watch the Bald Eagles overhead. St. Germain and the surrounding area have many outstanding places for breakfast and five-star dining.
I very much enjoyed my time at Deer Ridge. I didn't have people on either side of me so I had a very peaceful and enjoyable time on the lake and in the woodsey area. The deer walked the property nightly and I even got to see an albino deer.
The cabin was very comfortable and had everything I needed to give me a warm and homey feeling. Sitting by the lake for hours, reading my books and enjoying nature was so restful.
There are many wonderful restaurants close by and grocery shopping was a short distance away,.
The owner was so easy to work with and lived up to everything he promised and more. I am looking forward to returning next year.
The cabin is very clean and well equipped. Even has WI-FI. Convenient to many attractions. Wonderful setting to go and relax.
This is a great little cabin up on Big St. Germain Lake and really had everything you could need to enjoy your stay. The cabin itself was very clean and the kitchen stocked with whatever you could need. It was also a great value and the owner was very helpful. The cabin also isn't far from a nice grocery store (with New Glarus beer!), a bait shop and other things you may need on your trip.
This being said, if you are seeking seclusion and really want to immerse yourself in nature, you may want to keep looking. While we didn't have neighbors on one side of us (thankfully, b/c their deck is very close to this deck), the neighbors on the other side had both children and dogs. And while I enjoy both, when you're hoping to escape to some peace and quiet, well, you'll have to get lucky on the neighbor situation. If you enjoy meeting new friends and going fishing with the neighbors, don't hesitate for a minute to book this cabin.
We spent many an evening down at the fire pit, which was terrific, except for that darn dock light. While I understand lighting the area up for boaters (it's a shared dock), you should be able to turn this off once all of the boats are safely in for the night. Not only did it take away from viewing the amazing stars, but it had this never-ending buzzing sound, which just wasn't pleasant on the ears. Simply installing a switch on this light would solve both of these issues, but again, maybe not everyone is seeking this kind of tranquility.
Good luck fishing and enjoy the deer and bald eagles!
