Dolphin Lookout(TM) is like a 'ship on land,' anchored and secluded on the southeast tip of this tropical out island coral atoll. This wonderful newer hand-crafted Bahamian cottage, is perched on a bluff, providing spectacular views of the gorgeous Bahamian turquoise ocean and breath taking vistas across Scotland Bay to the beautiful little private coral island of Scotland Cay.
Guana's beaches are 'Fodor's choice' for the best beaches in the Bahamas. Just a few minutes from Dolphin Lookout, begin miles of white powdery sand beaches, where you may only see your foot prints in the sand. A magnificent outer reef, which is the 3rd largest in the world, runs the entire length of Guana Cay, and within a 'stones throw' from this very special oceanfront cottage are numerous inner reefs and coral gardens teaming with colorful marine life. Extraordinary white sand beaches, reefs, coral gardens, snorkeling, swimming, diving, kayaking are accessible by foot or golf cart and are only a few minutes from Dolphin Lookout.
About 2 miles west of Dolphin Lookout(TM) is a quaint, picturesque settlement, home to 100-125 permanent residences, descendants of loyalists, who migrated to the Bahamas from the Carolinas, Virginia and New York during the revolutionary war.
Here in the settlement, you will find Guana Harbour grocery store, several great restaurants, Donna's golf cart rentals, the upscale Orchid Bay Yacht club and Marina, a dive shop, boat rentals, and Milos fresh fruit and vegetable stand. Yes, this out island experience may be the closest thing to 'heaven on earth' for ocean lovers. To us it continues to be a fairy tale experience. Dolphin Lookout may well be that vacation or retirement home away from home you have been dreaming about. Sound and look to good to be true? Please note the comments by Dolphin Lookout guests, the additional photos below, and then you decide.
Hi Ben and Cathy,
Our 25th anniversary celebration was absolutely amazing. We couldn't have imagined a more relaxing 25th anniversary. The view, the snorkeling, and just plain relaxing kept us delighted the entire time. The property is incredible and the views breathtaking. As we renewed our vows on the little bench by the waters edge a perfect double rainbow formed from start to finish before our eyes. Dolphin Lookout actually exceeded all of our expectations. Simply heaven on earth. So looking forward to our next adventure in July 2015.
Thanks for very much,
Brian and Mary
We truly enjoyed our stay at Dolphin Lookout and are looking forward to our return visit. The location is perfect for anyone who wants to "get away" from the crowds but still be within a few minutes of the conveniences of restaurants and shopping. Some people might think it to be a little remote, but we loved it, even the ride out to the cottage was part of the adventure of being there. Dolphin Lookout is well equipped with excellent wifi service, cell phone service, and a vhf radio. The views are spectacular with the Atlantic on one side and the Sea of Abaco on the other. We are also impressed and thankful for Gina. She took care of all of our needs and treated us like friends rather than tourists.
Hello Cathy and Ben,
Our stay at Dolphin Lookout was everything we thought it would be, and more. The property is unmatched with its magnificent views. We have never seen one place so beautiful from sunup to sundown. It seemed that throughout the day, the colors and hues on the water continually changed. The stars at night were just as brilliant as the days were clear. The cottage construction is top notch with an attention to detail one would expect from a shipwright which was very appealing as it created the feeling of being on a voyage or on a vessel. The weather was perfect the entire week. The constant sea breeze made for the most pleasant conditions throughout the duration of our stay. The occasional thunderstorm, watched from the deck, added to the splendor. As a long time sailor I felt like I had struck gold particularly when I found the books in the Dolphin Lookout library, "Beat to Quarters," as well as the remaining set of the Hornblower adventures. Upon our final departure we looked at one another and said,"when are we coming back." Neither of us wanted to leave. What fantastic piece of the world that hopefully is available in in its current form for some time to come. Thank you for allowing us to share part of that world.
Best regards, Mike and Tookie
We just returned from our first visit to Great Guana Cay and Dolphin Lookout and can't say enough about this beautiful cottage! The views from the porch were unbelievable. The home has everything you need from the well stocked kitchen to beach towels. We enjoyed grilling several evenings and relaxing, enjoying the beautiful waters of the Sea of Abaco and the Atlantic. The owner, Ben, was a delight to work with! He was very responsive with our many questions leading up to our trip and upon booking, he will send you a very informative booklet about tips and what to expect on your vacation.
We booked an island hopping, day charter with Captain Plugg out of Elbow Cay & had a fantastic time. We would highly recommend this! We even caught some fish for our dinner!
We spent our mornings walking the beautiful Caysera beach then would return to the cottage for breakfast and reading time on the porch (which has wonderful breezes due to the house sitting up on a hill). Then we would explore town & more beach time. We snorkeled several reefs - off Caysera & Nippers beaches & the coral/Fish were beautiful! After our "day adventures", we took our showers in the outdoor shower (highly recommend this!) and we would have cocktails on the porch & relaxed before dinner. Afterwards, we loved retreating to the adirondack chairs overlooking Scotland Cay with a glass of wine, watching the moon rise (we had the "super moon" while we were there!). Ben & Cathy have created several wonderful "spaces" at Dolphin Lookout to relax & enjoy! We also, loved going to the dock!
Our favorite restaurant was Grabbers. The service and food was the best! Don't miss going there for the sunsets!
We can't wait to return for our next visit to Dolphin Lookout! We would love to be able to stay for 2 weeks some day! Ben & Cathy, thank you so much for sharing your lovely piece of paradise!
We absolutely loved Dolphin Lookout and want to return. It was perfect for us. The views were incredible-almost unreal. We ran on the beach in the morning and jumped straight into the ocean for a sea bath afterwards. It is hard to believe how clear and turquoise the water is. in the afternoon we snorkeled and sat on the dock. The walk to the dock is beautiful-feels like a vineyard. On most nights we went into town for dinner. The fish was fresh and delicious-I am very curious to know what seasonings were used in Grabber's Broil in foil. We contemplated using the kayaks but never did as we were too relaxed and happy to bother.
Gina and Ron were very helpful and nice. Everything was easy.
Josh and I had an AMAZING time at Dolphin Lookout. It could not have been a more perfect honeymoon. I think the best part about it was the fact the house was so far off of the beaten path which really gave you a sense of true Abaco. We aren't really resort type people and prefer to be surrounded by nature, which made Dolphin Lookout the perfect place for us to stay. The cottage itself is beautifully maintained and decorated, clean and well stocked. The outdoor shower is wonderful. The surrounding beaches,(particularly Caysera), and reefs are fantastic. We spent almost the entire time snorkeling which was partly why we chose Dolphin Lookout. The local Bahamians, particularly Gina and Ronald, were incredibly friendly and helpful. Troy and Maria from Dive Guana were also fantastic, and we did end up doing a snorkel charter with them to Fowl Cay which was just beautiful. We have recommended your cottage to friends and family. We hope to return to Guana Cay and Dolphin Lookout in the not too distant future. Thank you so much for lending us your beautiful home for the week.
