Family fun

  • 5 of 5
I rented this cabin for 2 weeks and could have stayed forever. My family: young adult children, elderly parent, aunt, all came north to stay for various times while I was there. Everyone loved the beautiful log cabin's welcoming furnishings. The beds are comfortable, the living areas warm and beautiful, the towels plentiful, the extra blankets abundant, the water hot for multiple showers and laundry, the air conditioning great on hot damp summer days. The cabin is supplied with anything you could possibly need: puzzles, an excellent book and magazine collection, games, fireplace, fire pit, grill and tools, a couple bikes, kids gate, port a crib, fan, dishwasher, indoor and outdoor dining tables and placemats for all, crock pot, blender, even a salad spinner! I loved sitting on the third floor deck listening to the creek burble and watching the blue heron in the early morning. A TV with DVD player on every level meant some people could have peace and quiet while others watched a movie.
We Kayaked the Crystal river, SUPed the South Bar and Lake Mi from Empire, Hiked the lovely trails around the cabin and in the National Lakeshore, and shopped in Suttons Bay, Glen Arbor and Traverse City. We enjoyed the local galleries and antique stores. Local produce was available at a stand walking distance from the cabin. Beaches on Lake Michigan and small lakes are a short drive away , many dog-friendly. Glen Lake offered boat rentals. Glen Haven museums were interesting. We climbed the Great Sleeping Bear and loved running down in great leaping strides.
Favorite restaurants: Blue Bird in Leland (get the Whitefish Bluebird style), Joes Friendly in Empire (Best burgers in the North), Little Traverse Inn, walking distance, (Music on Thurs and Sun), Pegtown Station, Maple City, (great Breakfast), Foothills Café, (loved the cherry pancakes), Cherry Republic, Glen Arbor, (Barbeque sandwich is delicious), and La Becasse, if you need a fancy French date night. The Cherry Hut in Benzonia is wonderful for a home cooked inexpensive dinner. Get the dinner that includes soup, salad, beverage, main course, potatoes, vegetable, and dessert. Then head to the Cherry Bowl for a double feature drive-in experience.
The best thing about the cabin was that I was able to bring my well behaved best friend with me. She loved playing in the creek and taking long walks on the trails. A perfect up north experience.

A couples Euchre Get Away

  • 5 of 5
It was only a long weekend but it was a great visit. The house was so perfect for 3 couples to share. Each couple had their privacy and yet could gather in the main area for food, fun, cocktails and games. Meeting the owner made this visit even more special. The men had been impressed with the craftmanship and found that the owner built the house himself. The men had a chance to try their luck fishing and the ladies got a chance to shop in Glen Arbor. One of our guys is a metal detector hunter and had a great time walking the paths. Even though it rained most of the time the peace and quiet of the home made for a splendid visit. We will try and return in the spring.

Beautiful Cabin near Leland and Glen Arbor

  • 5 of 5
Our week long stay at Cabin on the Creek was perfect in every way. The thoughtful design of the house, the outstanding craftsmanship, the attention to detail in furnishing and decorating the cabin were all remarkable. The location is ideal for sightseeing in Glen Arbor, Leland, and Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore parks. Perfect arrangement of bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate extended families. Our group enjoyed the creekside campfire ring for evening gatherings. We plan to return for years to come.
Many thanks to our hosts, Ed and Dawn, for their generous hospitality.

Enjoyable cabin stay in the beautiful Leelanau.

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed our cozy cabin stay in the scenic woods of the Leelanau. Comfortable accommodations, very clean and well-equipped with kitchen amenities, towels, washer/dryer. Our 3-year-old was happy to discover the large box of books and toys in basement. Very quiet and peaceful setting along a little river. Comfortable porches to enjoy the breezes and soft hum of wind chimes. A nice bonfire pit, outdoor chairs, grill/tools and picnic table for outdoor fun. Nicely done rustic decor and furnishings...only thing, missed our roomy king-sized beds. A nice layout with bedrooms/full baths on each level provided comfort and privacy for larger families or groups, like ours. Location just off M-22 was very convenient - can walk to store (good pizza) and quick drive to Lake Michigan beaches and cute coastal towns (Leland, Glen Arbor). We would recommend and would stay here again.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Cabin on the Creek the first week of May 2014 and it was exactly as described and did not disappoint. There were six of us attending my son's Graduation from the Maritime Academy in Traverse City which was about a 25 minute drive. Cabin is close proximity to Glen Arbor and Leland also.
The cabin is nicely equipped and the view of the river from the decks was awesome. Plenty of room to spread out and go for nice walks. Having a bathroom on all three levels was ideal. We definitely will be back for a family/friend getaway in the near future. Owners were responsive with questions and easy to work with. A great time was had by all.

Lifetime Dream Vacation

  • 5 of 5
My wife has talked of her ideal vacation for years: a cabin in the woods and a book to read. This past fall, we made that dream a reality. First of all, the Cabin on the Creek was the perfect setting--the location, the view, the cabin itself, the wonderful provisions and all the personal touches that made it feel homey. We spent most of our vacation holed up in the cabin. When we did leave to go sightseeing, we always talked of going back "home," meaning to the cabin. It just felt like our home for our stay. Though the weather was cool and often wet, we felt snug and cozy in the cabin, with the gas fireplace on most of the time, music from the CD player playing and comfortable places to sit on every floor. We were enjoying ourselves so much, we asked for an extension on our stay, which was kindly provided.
The workmanship on the cabin itself is topnotch in every respect, and all the special decorating touches make it so inviting. Every kitchen appliance we could think of was provided. Having a full bath on every floor is really plush. The view of the creek and surrounding woods is breathtaking.
My wife found a book on a shelf at the cabin that she had been wanting to read--and finished reading it the day we finished our stay! The perfect ending to a perfect dream vacation.
