I own Drop Anchor Realty and this is my personal cottage.
George F. West purchased this cottage in 2007
I have been in the real estate business here for 30 years. I have seen a lot of beautiful locations over the years and when I saw this one I just had to own it. It is a spectacular site, quiet and serene and a fine sand beach on the rocky coast of Maine
Sand Beach and complete Privacy.
We had the most wonderful time at Ripley Neck cottage! This was our first time renting a house in Maine, and we were seeking something fairly remote and away from the crowds, but still accessible to Acadia and other beautiful places along the coast. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. The view from the cottage was unbelievably gorgeous, as stunning as anything else we saw on the Maine coast. What an extraordinary experience to watch the sun rise over the water each morning and to come back to a spotlessly clean and comfortable home in the evening! The cottage has all the amenities you will need for cooking, and George was friendly, professional and available to answer our questions. We can't recommend Ripley Neck Cottage highly enough.
We absolutely LOVED this cottage, we had a wonderful week in July. This is not the touristy part of Maine's coast. It's a bit off the beaten path which we like, it's quiet. The sunrises are spectacular. Great wildlife, we even saw a moose one night coming into the driveway. George was great to deal with, he didn't bother us but was responsive when needed. The little sandbar beach is awesome and very quiet. It's a couple minutes walk to get there once you go down the wood staircase at the edge of the property. That part can be a mucky depending on tide so bring water shoes. This bay is very calm, but you do get some small wave sounds which is nice. The cottage has everything you need and nothing you don't. Tastefully and simply decorated. The bed is good, the bathroom and kitchen work well. There's a hose outside so you can wash off your beach shoes. It was not very buggy at all, to my surprise. You can buy fresh lobsters right off the boat a couple minutes away on the other side of the land tongue, where there is a small working harbor. Groceries and liquor store are about a 15 minute drive away. We also rented boats in Machias; they will rent recreational kayaks to you, but for ocean kayaks you have to sign up for a guided tour. Visited Beale Island and the Down East Institute (worth a visit), and drove to Lubec which is amazing. Bring a passport if you want to visit Campobello Island. We hope to make it back there one day. I could easily stay a month and be totally happy!
Beautiful cottage, spacious, spotless, supplies fantastic, wonderful views, very peaceful and unforgettable. Loved all the wildlife that visited from the deer, red squirrels, bald eagle and the porcupine that would wonder by early morning and late evening. Would definitely recommend to family and friends who are looking for a nice, quiet place to get away. Wished we could have stayed longer - loved this place. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
We stayed at the cabin back in October, I apologize for taking so long to review it George! First of all, George is a great host and very friendly. We got the key and he told us where to go for groceries and a little lay of the area.
As we drove down the peninsula we found our gravel road and were blown away as we pulled up to the cabin. The pictures do not do it justice, absolutely beautiful setting with the only sounds being the ocean and wildlife.
Inside of the cabin is spotless with a comfy bed. Bedroom window looks out over the ocean as well. They have literally thought of everything you may need.
We ended up in the Bar Harbor area 2 of the days exploring, this is about an 1:15 drive or so but it is a beautiful drive and doesn't seem that long.
I could go on and on about how great this place is. Made our first trip to the North East perfect.
We had a very good time in Ripley Cottage. The forest on the one side, the ocean water on the other, no living soul (exept animals) around you -what can be better? The cottage is very cozy and clean, very well equipped, we had everything we need on the kithen, 2 outdoor grill, plenty ot toys for our daughter.
You drive down a dirt lane, to get to the long gravel driveway to the cottage. You can't see it yet, your heart races with anticipation.....and then you see it in the distance.... The view is stunning.....You are "home".
As always, the cottage was warm, comfortable ...and dry...Yes, it rained for a few days straight. But that does not change the soothing effect Ripley Neck has on your soul. We rode to Eastport, Lubec and Acadia twice. Cadillac Mt. had ferocious, wet and exhilarating weather one day and sunny pleasant and exhilarating weather the next.....My stay was 10 days long this time, still not long enough.
You just don't want to leave once you get here. The deer were regular visitors, dawn and dusk, rain or shine. Watching the tides is your only time piece, you long to walk the beach and eagerly wait till the tide recedes. Magic still resides here, unspoiled by the outside world. If you are looking for a private hideaway from it all, this is the place to be. I know I will return again.
