Boothbay Harbor will hosts the Annual Windjammer days in June and includes two days of family fun, street parade, antique boat parade, and fireworks over the Harbor. Owls Head Transportation Museum offers many events throughout the summer. Well known Moody's Diner in Waldoboro offers homemade Maine cooking, and just a 20 minute drive from the house. Bath is home to the Maine Maritime Museum, a popular destination for those interested in Maine's maritime heritage and culture. A peaceful, relaxing place, yet close to all that the Mid-Coast has to offer.
My husband and I built this Sheepscot Shores home in 2001. I grew up in Wiscasset and my husband, who grew up in New Jersey, loved this area and we decided this waterfront property would be a perfect fit to build a home. We have 5 children and we all have spent many holidays and celebrations at the home, along with our extended family.
Sandra purchased this house in 2001
I have always loved being by the water and this property is located on a dead end road, is very quiet, and the view is beautiful no matter what time of year it is. It is close to coastal Route 1, a popular road for traveling along the coast, and it's easy commutes to all that the Mid Coast has to offer. It's also an easy drive to some of Maine's lakes and beaches.
The house is 75 feet from the water's edge, and there is an easy walkway getting down to the water. The large deck, located on the waterfront side of house, is great for sitting outside and taking in the view. A grocery store is only a 5 minute drive and less than that to the village of Wiscasset where many small shops are located, including antiques. Red's Eat's, a very popular and nationally known eatery, is located in the village as well. They offer the best lobster and crab rolls in Maine!
We had a wonderful time in your beautiful home! You provide everything we could have needed and more. The accommodations are also very child friendly, which was greatly appreciated as our families grow. We are a group of friends who meet yearly from various parts of the US and your home was perfect for us!
After over a month of painstakingly checking out rental homes in the mid-coast Maine region last spring, I decided on this one for our surprise family celebration of my husband's 60th birthday in September. The minute we walked in the house, everyone knew I had made the right choice! Not only was the house in a great location for traveling either north or south for a day's exploration (which we did - the Windjammer Festival in Camden; Pemaquid Lighthouse; a schooner ride in Boothbay; kayaking in East Bath; LL Bean; a wonderful day in Kennebunkport, just to name a few!), the house was also perfect for just staying home and relaxing (which we also did - quiet moments in the chair by the water, grilling out on the deck, boiling lobsters at $3.99/lb - WOW!, and putting together jigsaw puzzles on the coffee table to the sounds of a crackling fireplace at night). We found everything immaculate and loved the fact that there were so many little extras in the house that Sandra had provided (the cooler to get lobsters from the market; the amazing spice drawer in the kitchen; the stocked laundry room, etc.). You just don't see that in many other rental homes - you have to start from scratch when you arrive and end up with a lot of extra expenses. Our family of 10 loved the three-floor opportunity to be together (or to not be!), the incredible back deck (and view), and the warm and inviting way the house was decorated. Did I mention the wonderful master bedroom and bath? WOW! Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful home with us. We made a memory that will last the rest of our lives!
We were so impressed with this vacation rental. This was our first visit to Maine and we felt right at home immediately upon arrival. The house was well appointed, spotless and amenities were numerous, from the well-stocked spice drawer, the pantry with every piece of cookware you might need, the pancake recipes on the inside of the cabinet, to the game shelves (there's even a playroom on the lower level with lots of toys,) hand soap, toilet paper and kleenex in every bathroom, along with dish soap, dishwasher soap and laundry detergent and fabric softener. The home is spacious and has wonderful views of the Sheepscot River from the deck and the house. There's even a canoe to take out on the river along with the requisite lifevests. The house has been lovingly taken care of. This was a nice mid-point for all the places we wanted to visit along the coast-it was the perfect place to unwind and relax after our days of sightseeing.
Wiscasset is a very picturesque town and Red's Eats was our first stop of the week for Maine Lobster-their Lobster Roll was excellent, but make sure you come very hungry-it is huge! Other notable places to eat and visit: the Sea Salt Cafe in Damariscotta for breakfast, the Clam Shack in Kennebunkport, Jordan Pond House in Acadia National Park(Excellent food, especially the popovers and strawberry jam-reservations are recommended) Pemaquid Point Lighthouse(gorgeous scenery) Ben and Bill's in Bar Harbor for ice cream(they even have lobster ice cream!), the Camden Deli has some yummy blueberry pie. We also went to a clambake on Cabbage Island-it was one of the highlights of our trip and a wonderful way to end the week -you will not leave there hungry! We visited Freeport and shopped at L.L. Bean and checked out Boothbay Harbor. The owner provided some excellent suggestions for places to eat and visit, too-all in all, a memorable vacation!
What a gem of a home! The location along the Sheepscot River is stunning as our families enjoyed seeing the sunrises from the expansive deck, watching the bald eagles soar overhead and the herons fishing in the river. The home itself is so well-appointed and well-furnished that we did not want for anything during our week. Anything you could possibly need was probably already in the house. Having rented a few homes/condos over the years for summer vacations, the owners have truly set the bar high with all the amenities that are provided (fully stocked kitchen with wide variety of pots, pans, baking dishes, storage containers, cleaning supplies). The bathrooms were all stocked with toilet paper and hand soap which was unexpected (and welcomed). The owners were very accessible via phone when we had to reach them on our second day regarding a minor issue. The owners were also very responsive to e-mails and extremely helpful/patient in responding to my e-mails in the weeks prior to our vacation.
Wiscasset is central to so many great places to see/explore - we visited Portland to take in a minor league ball game, Freeport (home of LL Bean), Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta, Georgetown (Five Islands Lobster Co - DELICIOUS!!!), Rockland, New Harbor for a puffin cruise (easily the highlight of the vacation for me, personally), and downtown Wiscasset.
After searching the VRBO website, we selected this water-front home in Wiscasset. I called the owner (Sandra) to discuss the possibility and found her to be responsive to my questions and needs, and it seemed that Sandra was being causally straight-up and honest about her answers -- I felt no sales pitch what-so-ever. What a great decision it turned out to be. My sons and family with four children (from five months to 13, a total of 10) found the place to be exactly as described by the VRBO website and by Sandra. A baby's crib was needed - done! We found the ice-maker in the frig not working and asked for it to be fixed - done within a day. Following that one slight blip, the house was perfect. The furniture was very nice and comfortable (clearly not Walmart issue). This was simple a very nicely constructed home with furnishings to match.
From the back deck we had an open view to the river (which was not a view to the open ocean, but it was a very pretty view of a large body of water). A canoe was available for paddling around the river which turned out to be a very big deal for Tom (the 4-year old). In that same vein, a well-stocked playroom filled with toys was terrific, as was the video games for the older children (and adults who got their butts kicked by the young'uns). Puzzles were available and fun for all ages. For the "walkers" the area roads were nice without hardly any traffic. Trips to the little town of Wiscasset were fun (@ three miles) - for coffee, lunches and dinners, and visiting art shops. The walk across the bridge was most enjoyable.
Obviously, I am trying to convey to readers that this was a very positive experience -- beginning with Sandra (she came across as a person you would really like to meet), the house itself and all of its amenities, the beautiful little town, and were we lucky to have great weather while in Maine. The only rainy day was turned into a LL Bean Day - a few hundred people had the same idea. All in all, it was a great week, and one that will be long remember by members of my family (except for the five month old). We collectively travel to Maine each summer, and this will be one of the best weeks ever. We would return to this location without reservation, except that we always try a new place each year. But if we were of the "repeater" type, we certainly would have Sandra's home high on the list.

This was perfect for our family reunion, with attendees from 2 to 80! Everything was as advertised if not better, the view spectacular, clean, very spacious, and close to lots of activities and day trips. Would 100% recommend. Not one tiny thing to complain about :)
We had three generations for a week and we all had a great time! There was space so we could have quiet time, game nights and pay outside. There was plenty of room for us all to be indoors when it rained and space for a 40th birthday party! Thank you for having us!
