The White House, situated on a private road overlooking Lake Michigan, offers a vintage feel, with modern convenience. Lake Michigan views (and sounds) are spectacular, from almost every room in the house. The kitchen is well stocked, laundry facilities are available, and the wrap-around porch is truly a delight. A short walk (3/10th of a mile) to the gradual sloping path to the sandy beach affords opportunities for beachcombing, swimming, bodysurfing and napping. The setting is peaceful, but is close enough to Saugatuck and South Haven for shopping, entertainment and dining. Cozy wrap-around porch with sleeping nooks.

Kerr Cottages History: The original Kerr Cottage belonged to my great-grandmother, Hennrietta, who built a charming cottage down the road from the White House in 1909. Henrietta came to Glenn in 1904 to play the organ at the camp next door to her cottage, which was owned by the Girl's Friendly Society. They sponsored young girls from Chicago to come to the lakeshore for 2 weeks in the summer. Dubbed 'The Holiday House', the camp celebrated all the major holidays during the girls short stay!

Henrietta was the iconoclastic matriarch of the Kerr clan until her death at 97. Ownership of the cottage went to my mother, who made few improvements. Although she agreed to get running water, Mom insisted we not bring it into the house, and to this day, we use an 'outside in-house' for the 'biffy'. We still bring in water in buckets and wash the dishes at the dry sink. The Kerr family is now in its 6th generation of die-hard swimmers and beach-lovers.

Our best time in Michigan ever...

The White House is homey, quaint and comfortable, yet loaded with things like Wi-Fi, cable, and laundry facilities in the basement. Glenn is a sweet little hideaway; it is neither infested with yuppies like much of SW Michigan, nor is it water park-ified, like the Dells. Just a great quiet place to enjoy, and from which to fan out. We cooked out a lot, but you are also within easy striking distance of South Haven, Saugatuck, Holland, and everything those towns have to offer. We are light sleepers as a group, and my wife and three kids slept like rocks all week; the combination of quiet, room to spread out, and the wonderful sound of waves audible from every room did the trick. The wrap-around porch is great for sleeping, reading, doing a puzzle, or just about anything. The White House has been 'in the family' for a long time, and the loving upgrades are ongoing; the owner installed beautiful new wood floors throughout the downstairs this year. She was in an adjoining property had we needed anything, but all was well-prepared ahead of time. We have already sent this weblink to a number of families. We feel like we were there for a month, in a GOOD way; we hope to make returns part of our family folklore. You will love it!

Old Fashioned Charm

From the one room school house on the corner to the pankcake breakfasts at the community hall, Glenn Michigan is a nice break from the hectic pace of daily life. The White House is located on a quiet road carved out of the woods along the shore of Lake Michigan. It's very peaceful and beautiful. The White House offers a good value for those looking for a lakefront cottage. The beds are comfy. The house is clean. The wraparound porch is great for relaxing with a book in the evening. There is a small swingset for young kids.
Access to a nice sandy beach is available a short walk down the road. 10 miles north lies the touristy town of Saugatuck with many shops and restaurants. 10 miles south is South Haven with a large public beach, a pier from which you can catch perch, salmon, or steelhead depending on the season. Three golf courses of various quality are within a ten-minute drive. Many antique shops line the Blue Star highway which goes through Glenn's lone intersection.

Wonderful Location by the lake

This is the most delightful cottage in a truly peaceful and beautiful location. Everything you need is within a 15 minute drive, the cottage is clean and well maintained, the beach is beautiful and private and the whole experience was a pleasure. The owner provides great customer service and is full of local information on places to go and things to do. I loved my stay!
