RENOVATED CABIN, S W CHARM. HEART OF OLD C.B. SAUNA/HOT TUB

Crested Butte Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

If you've already set your sites on Crested Butte, you're already on the right track! This town is one of our favorites in the world! Not just for skiing, but also for hiking in the summer, mountain biking and even just relaxing and taking a break from the busy lives that we lead. Our house reflects this. When we first moved in, it was obviously a miner's cabin which had been brought down from Irwing lake and added on to to make a house, but it did need a little T.L.C.! In renovating it though we have kept the charm that initially drew us to it whilst adding things like a hot tub under the stars, a sauna, great insulation and cozy furnishings. Location-wise, it would be hard to beat - it's a few blocks from the main drag (Elk Avenue) and the stop for the free shuttle to the mountain is almost directly opposite the house. The house is cozy enough for a romantic getaway for 2, but also large enough for a relaxing vacation for 4!

We've skied since we were kids. After working a ski season in Chamonix and developing a passion for backcountry skiing and hiking, we started looking for somewhere in the US where we could set up a more permanent home. When we first came to the town of Crested Butte in 2000, we realised that this was the place - with its challenging ski area, great backcountry and amazing community.

Over the years we've come to appreciate all the seasons here in Crested Butte and we've grown to love this town which has managed to keep its charm and avoid the overdevelopment that you find in so many other resorts.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2001

When we started looking for a house, we wanted something small and cozy in the heart of historic Crested Butte (as opposed to the mountain resort which we found less charming, especially outside of the ski season). We finally found 219 Whiterock which at the time was a bit of a wreck with a full drum kit set up in the living room and some interesting murals painted in the loft area! With a little vision, we saw the potential of this cabin and spent the next year renovating it, even adding a sauna and a hot tub in the garden Now we have this beautiful home in Crested Butte.

Our home is perfectly situated in the heart of historic Crested Butte - you can walk to the shops, the restaurants, the movie house etc and the free bus for the 10 minute ride up to the mountain resort stops almost directly outside by the Nordic centre.

In the summer you can hike directly from the house (Green Lake is a favorite!)and you really don't need a car unless you're planning some longer trips.

Lying in the hot tub staring up at the stars and the mountains after a long day of skiing, hiking, biking or even white water rafting is just the coolest!!

Enjoy!

This place is nicer than the pictures show. Everything was spot on. Only about 5 minutes to the mountain. We will be back.

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5
It simply does not get better than The Miner's Cabin! Our family of four had the best time. Location is perfect (2 blocks from cute downtown area w/ restaurants and shopping and bus to ski area is across the street). Beds are very comfortable and the hot tub is private, clean, and hot (with adjustable jets and temperature). It is so well-stocked that we had all the creature comforts of a home. Our children loved the private loft area. I appreciated having a washer/dryer on site. We are already planning a return trip this summer and will definitely stay at The Miner's Cabin.

BEST PLACE IN CRESTED BUTTE

  • 5 of 5
My wife and two young daughters stayed here for our Spring Break and it couldn't have been any better. Very clean house with all the amenities you need. You can't beat the private Hot Tub and Sauna! Everything was in working order and you can tell the owner takes good care of it. The location is fantastic - two houses down is the stop for the free shuttle to the slopes (which is only a 10 minute ride) - two blocks away (5 minute walk) is the main street (Elk) with all the stores and restaurants you need. Forget a rental car, you don't need it. Make sure you go to Izzy's for Breakfast, The Secret Stash for Pizza and The Third Bowl for Ice Cream! The whole town is friendly and helpful. Crested Butte is big enough to have all you need but in no way too busy or crowded, even at Spring Break! We had a great time and look forward to renting it again, thanks for sharing it!

WONDERFUL AND COZY CABIN!!

  • 5 of 5
We had a fabulous stay at the cabin! The week we were there it probably snowed a foot every day and someone came and shoveled us out each morning! We were there to cross country ski and the cabin is one block from the Nordic center and close to town (across the street is the bus stop if we had wanted to ski the mountain)! We loved having a hot tub to come home to every night and the fireplace - it was just super cozy. I highly recommend it!

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5
We loved our cozy accommodations. So close to everything we wanted to do and the house was furnished with everything we needed. All questions were answered promptly and the house was very clean. We enjoyed eating at the Secret Stash and attending the Farmers' Market on Sunday. Will definitely return.

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT !!!

  • 5 of 5
First, Crested Butte is just a very special place for a summer visit as I have visited it probably a dozen times now since the late 80's. It gets more charming every year, unlike Aspen or Vail, a much more down to earth experience with incredibly friendly, helpful residents and retail & restaurant staff. My brother owns a house in CB and because of all his kids we usually need to rent while visiting. This trip we rented the Miner's Cabin and as the headline says "absolutely perfect". It is located in the heart of the town of CB, blocks from Elk Avenue (main street) as well as hiking trails, shops and restaurants. You will not need a car unless you want to explore the surrounding mountains. Mt Crested Butte is located at the ski resort outside town and offers many condominiums at cheaper rates, but trust me it is not the same experience as you will have to drive to town or take the bus as very little going on at the ski area compared to town. The Miner's Cabin is perfect for a couple visiting or a couple with kids as the upstairs loft area while small with a common area and bedroom are perfect for kids sleeping, watching TV or playing on their electronic gear. The cabin had all the amenities PLUS. Flat screen TV's, Wifi internet, stereo, fully stocked kitchen/bath amenities. We never turned on the TV as we were there to the enjoy beauty of CB as the weather was great! The two amenities we did enjoy and use daily was the outside spa and sauna. Spectacular after a long day of hiking, relaxing in the warm spa with a glass of wine. There is also an outside BBQ grill but we always walked to one of the charming restaurants each night for apps or dinner. The owner of the Cabin was totally attentive to our needs as he has an onsite representative to attend to any of your needs or questions. The Cabin is set back off the street and feels very private with the front deck and spa surrounded by wooden fence and entry gate, a great setting outside for morning coffee or evening drinks. The main living area is nicely done with a galley type kitchen and the dining area overlooks the front spa area. The bathroom while small is well stocked with quality towels, nice shower and shelves for your toiletries. The master bedroom at the rear of the cabin is quite nice, easily holding a king bed and wonderful window over the head of the bed for night time breezes. After day long hikes, warm spa soaks, glasses of wine, the quiet bedroom was the perfect spot to finish the day!

We fell in love with Crested Butte the first time we came to do some back country skiing in 2000. Since then the town hasn't stopped growing on us. Every year we discover new restaurants, new slopes, new hikes and, best of all, new friends in what has to be one of the most welcoming communities we know.

Whether you come here to ski, to hike, to bike or just to relax, there is always something going on here. The day is yours for the taking!

Any time of year the mountains are beautiful and challenging. Just a 10 minute ride on the free shuttle bus that stops almost outside the door, the main mountain resort never stops improving.

Activities on the mountain are boundless and open to all skill levels. In the summer there are endless possibilities for camping, hiking and exploring this great area.
