About John

I am a semi-retired real estate investor who fell in love with Bend and can't find any place I would rather live. There is so much to do here if you like the outdoors, but the community feel is what really makes it special.

John purchased this house in 1999

Why John chose Bend

This was my vacation home in Bend before I decided I had to live here permanently. There are not many homes on the river in Bend, which makes it quite special. You can walk through Drake Park along Mirror Pond to downtown Bend in about ten minutes, and the other direction is the Old Mill District. I love this location and neighborhood so much that when I wanted a bigger home, I moved next door. It is rare to find a place that is so close to everything and because of the river still seems a bit wild.

What makes this house unique

It's really all about the river and the central location.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Way too short of a stay for us on our first trip to Bend. Thank you so much for being so accommodating from initial contact to after our "checkout". All the recommendations for rides and use of your map and trail book are so very much appreciated. You have a great place in a great town in a beautiful area. Thank you for going above and beyond!

We'll be back soon.

Just got back from 3 nights at this riverfront cottage. Nice homey place. Perfect size for 2 people, more would be very cramped. Comfortable bed and furniture and the fridge had lots of staples and condiments stocked. The afternoon sun shines right on the front windows of the house and it gets pretty hot. We solved this by opening up the whole place during the night - when it gets cool and then closing up during the day. With temps in the mid 80s, it was OK, hotter - might have been too hot. Very close to Drake Park and they have a shuttle there that will take you up river to another park to float down in tubes or small rafts. Lots happening in Bend in the summer.

Right where you want to be in Bend!

  • 4 of 5
We visit Bend frequently and love trying new vacation rentals in different parts of town. John's cottage is the first time we stayed along the Deschutes River and while we intended to be there with snow, this year's weather didn't cooperate. We didn't get the winter view, but will definitely be back to try out the river during the summer! The cottage is perfectly located within walking distance of anything and everything worthwhile. Downtown Bend shopping and restaurants in one direction, go the other and you have 10 Barrel and the food truck lot and Hutch's Cycles. Follow the river path to the Mill District, or Drake Park. No matter which direction you go, you'll be there in less than 10 min walking.
John is very helpful with info on the area and we enjoyed staying in his cottage. The cottage is well supplied with all the necessities. It was warm and cozy, perfect for the 2 of us and our dog!

Nice cottage in great location

We enjoyed our three night stay in Bend at the Riverfront Cottage. The cottage is clean and comfortable for two people, and dog friendly. John is helpful and informative about the area, and knows all the best spots for snowshoeing and hiking with your pooch. The kitchen is stocked with basics and a good set of cookware.

Great Place/Fantastic Location

  • 5 of 5
Great place in a fantastic location. The river is beautiful and we spent a lot of time hanging on the deck enjoying the delicious local brews. The cottage has everything and is pet friendly. You can walk everywhere from this location (downtown, drake park, old mill, food & brewpubs). We look forward to our next visit!

We LOVED this place.

  • 5 of 5
My Husband, two small children and I stayed here over spring break, and it was just perfect for us. The house is small but like a well built, well appointed house boat, it had everything stowed and handy. The pull out bed in the living room was even comfortable. The view and river proximity are terrific. We spent a lot of time on the deck and in and on the river. The kids loved kayaking and playing at Columbia park across the pedestrian bridge. This was our fourth VRBO house in Bend and it's now our favorite location. Thanks John for making this such an easy and memorable trip for us.

Great little place in a great town!

  • 5 of 5
We rented this house for the second time this winter as a work/play getaway. Although we stayed for five weeks, we weren't ready to leave when our time was up. It's cozy, very comfortable, and in a great location, within an easy walk of downtown and the Galveston business district. The house is small but well laid out, with good quality linens and a very well stocked kitchen. The queen bed is comfortable, and the couch pulls out into the most comfortable sofa bed I've ever seen. But it's the river that gives this place its magic. It just does your heart good to watch it roll by. Have fun if you come!
