About John

I am a semi-retired real estate investor who fell in love with Bend and can't find any place I would rather live. There is so much to do here if you like the outdoors, but the community feel is what really makes it special.

John purchased this house in 1999

Why John chose Bend

This was my vacation home in Bend before I decided I had to live here permanently. There are not many homes on the river in Bend, which makes it quite special. You can walk through Drake Park along Mirror Pond to downtown Bend in about ten minutes, and the other direction is the Old Mill District. I love this location and neighborhood so much that when I wanted a bigger home, I moved next door. It is rare to find a place that is so close to everything and because of the river still seems a bit wild.

What makes this house unique

It's really all about the river and the central location.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Way too short of a stay for us on our first trip to Bend. Thank you so much for being so accommodating from initial contact to after our "checkout". All the recommendations for rides and use of your map and trail book are so very much appreciated. You have a great place in a great town in a beautiful area. Thank you for going above and beyond!

We'll be back soon.

Best location for a Bend retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Location couldn't be more perfect. Walking distance to downtown, a stones throw to multiple breweries, 20 minutes to snow and a back porch right on the river. John was a great host. We will be planning many more trips back to this comfy home.

River front cottage close to everything

  • 4 of 5

The cottage has a great river view from the living room and is within waking distance to Bend downtown, breweries/restaurants and Old Mill district.

The cabin, while small and a bit dated, has everything you need for 2-3 people (4 is a stretch).

Since the bedroom has no door (just a curtain) I would recommend for 2 people or small groups that don't need bedroom privacy.

Awesome Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The location of this cozy place is unbeatable! We stayed here as we waited to close on our home, and as new arrivals to Bend, the proximity to downtown, the DRT, various parks and playgrounds, and lots more was absolutely terrific. Though small, the home is very well-designed and fit our three-person (plus animals) family just fine. Like other reviewers, I was very impressed with how well-stocked it was (kitchen, bathroom, etc.). The owner, John, is super-friendly and very knowledgeable about the area, as well. Being just a stone's throw from the river was an excellent way to start our adventure in Bend! We highly recommend this cottage to any and all visitors.

Fantastic base camp!

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic little cottage with everything you could need or want in a fantastic location. We had a great time exploring beautiful Bend from this charming house. Everything is in walking distance, or a very short drive, and being right on the river was amazing. We definitely hope to be guests here again and again!

Great location. Cute & comfortable cottage.

  • 4 of 5

Just got back from 3 nights at this riverfront cottage. Nice homey place. Perfect size for 2 people, more would be very cramped. Comfortable bed and furniture and the fridge had lots of staples and condiments stocked. The afternoon sun shines right on the front windows of the house and it gets pretty hot. We solved this by opening up the whole place during the night - when it gets cool and then closing up during the day. With temps in the mid 80s, it was OK, hotter - might have been too hot. Very close to Drake Park and they have a shuttle there that will take you up river to another park to float down in tubes or small rafts. Lots happening in Bend in the summer.
