Notes: A wonderful & rustic retreat - does not have hotel like accommodations - our family refers to a stay at camp, sometimes for weeks-on-end, as sophisticated camping - a very basic but relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of the everyday life most of us lead. Screened porch across front of camp overlooking river/valley has six (6) wicker rockers and occasional tables. Please, No Smoking inside camp - porch is ok. Issues to be aware of, especially renters with children, a very high/steep bank in front of camp overlooking river and the proximity to river are potential dangers. Also, poison ivy, insects (mosquitoes, spiders, etc) and other wild critters (snakes, raccoons, skunks, coyote, red fox, porcupine, possum, deer, bear, etc) are part of the natural environment in area and care should be taken to keep reasonable distance when observing. Riverfront is rocky to muddy - ok for launching small boat/canoe/kayak. (2) single-place kayaks & paddle boat available for rent.

Simple pleasures

Patti & Mike Monroeville, NJ
Review Submitted: October 20, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
The property is exactly as described and pictured, taking you back to what vacationing at a "camp" should be. All day to do nothing but relax if you want, with campfires at night and a warm comfy place to sleep. The camp was charming, a little on the rustic side with lots of character and our host provided everything that we wanted and more. It wasn't his fault that the weather wasn't the greatest (a little on the chilly side). But we were able to go golfing a couple days, visit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and drive around the area to admire the lovely fall foliage, which was almost at its peak.
I would highly recommend this as a "get a way from it all" location. It was exactly what we were looking for. There were small towns in either direction that were close enough for anything that you might have forgotten or need. If we are ever planning to be in this area again, we would definitely come back. I would, and have recommended this as a great place to stay to my friends and family.

Perfect for a quite romantic weekend

J&N Stamford, Connecticut
Review Submitted: October 13, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We spent one of the most spectacular weekends in Camp Eagle Spirit for our Columbus Day long weekend trip. The house is definitely charming and perfectly located next to the river. Everything you need and more is in the house. The cover patio is over looking one of the most breath taking views while you can have your breakfast or simply enjoy your coffee. The outdoor seating and fire pit was great. We put the fire and had the most amazing view... Clear skies with thousands of stars and not a single noise other than nature... Although it was a bit chilly, the heat from the fire pit was enough to keep us warm and sit outside for hours to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

And I have to mentioned that Dick(put full name) – the Owner is great. He goes beyond any expectations to make sure you have an enjoyable time. Little chocolate on the beds and wine definitely makes your day and night.

I would recommend this anyone who needs to have a relaxing and quite weekend with spectacular fall colors... I am pretty sure scenery is great for summer and we will be back to confirm that.

We had an amazing time

Griller1 Brooklyn, NY
Review Submitted: October 7, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
So I was looking for a waterfront place by a river or lake to spend a weekend and get away from NYC with my girlfriend, and decided to go with Camp Eagle Spirit from the cool pictures and my conversation with Dick, the owner, who was really friendly and honest.

We got there at night, after being wrongfully directed by my GPS into a cornfield, Dick -who is really warm and professional--gave us a tour and it was so nice inside; the place is well-kept and you get a very tranquil vibe from the wooden camp.

In the morning we woke up with an amazing view of the river and the surrounding trees which you can see from your window. I made coffee and sipped it whilst overlooking the calming river(how poetic).

It was a great experience as our first time at a riverfront cabin/camp and hope to get some time and do it again. Get out there!

PS. Cool Fact: The Susquehanna River is apparently the Largest River in the American East Coast as I later found out from a quick Google.

great getaway

Review Submitted: September 23, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
A few weeks ago I needed a weekend away from life in NYC and my best friend needed a weekend away from life in Buffalo. We found Camp Eagle Spirit, located directly between us, packed our bags, and set off for some R&R. Dick, the owner, was extremely professional, helpful (sent us a weather report via E-mail a few days prior to the weekend of our stay), and friendly. The cabin is very clean and welcoming. We spent most of our time on the beautiful and cozy screened-in porch.
Camp Eagle Spirit is the perfect place to really get away from it all with family and friends. I will be recommending it to all of my friends.

Wonderful Family Weekend

KLCD Hamilton, New Jersey
Review Submitted: September 13, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Just spent a weekend filled with family and friends that took place largely at Camp Eagle Spirit. Many lovely memories were made in one of the loveliest places I have ever spent time.

This is an exquisitely maintained property, with many small touches I did not expect that made us feel very welcome. In spite of the unpredictable late summer weather in NYS - we experienced all four seasons in one weekend- we were snug and cozy and treated to the most fabulous views around.

Just a few minutes from stores and restaurants, it is possible to feel like you are miles away. Our family reunion was a huge success and we won't soon forget how beautiful it is along the river. We would go back to stay anytime.
