Situated in McFarland's Cove, this peaceful and comfortable cottage is the perfect setting for a family vacation. Set 300' off a private road, the cottage is nestled in the woods with back views of Poor House Cove. A short walk across the street brings you to the front cove and the rocky beach of the McFarland Cove Association, a private and sheltered swimming area. A short walk out the back of the cottage brings you to the peaceful back cove with kayaking, canoeing and fishing opportunities. The cottage features a bedroom and full bath on the first floor with the remaining 2 bedrooms and other full bath on the second floor. A washer and dryer are located on the first floor. A canoe is available for use by renters. The cottage is furnished simply but comfortably. We now have a monitor for heating on those cool nights and chilly early mornings. A deck was added to the cottage providing a comfortable place for peaceful contemplation of the back cove. Conveniently located near Christmas Cove and Pemaquid Point, this summer rental is well placed for access to all mid-coast area activities.

The Cottage: Our summer cottage is relaxing, convenient and comfortable. The first floor features an open living plan allowing easy movement from kitchen to dining area to the living room. The first floor bathroom is off the living room and also accessible from the downstairs bedroom. The upstairs is simple yet efficient. The bedrooms open right off the hall with the bathroom at the end. Windows abound allowing light and breezes to move through. The cottage furnishings are unfussy to meet the demands of summer vacations.

McFarland's Cove: McFarland's Cove is a small community of family and friends who have been coming to the area for generations. The same families have owned summer camps and cottages in the cove since the 1940s. Cove residents go out of their way to extend a warm and friendly welcome to newcomers. The front cove looks out on Witch Island, an uninhabited spot owned by Maine Audubon. It makes a perfect destination for a boat ride. Pack a picnic and set out to the island for an easy hike and some bird watching. Beyond Witch Island is John's Bay emptying into the Atlantic.

McFarlands Cove is an enclave of beauty and tranquility set in mid-coast Maine. One is near many attractions ranging from great shopping in Boothbay and Freeport to whale watching, puffin watching, and to museums such as the Farnsworth in Rockland, a scenic drive of 45 minutes or so. South Bristol is a small fishing village a mile from the cove. There you can find local sea food fresh from the boats. South Bristol features a well-known and busy grill where you can get a great meal for a bargain in addition to some of the best pizza around. Damariscotta, the nearest town aside from South Bristol, hosts many specialty shops from books to jewelry in addition to an Internet cafe. There are many places of interest for everyone in the family within an easy drive of McFarlands Cove.

Bedside lights and small tables are situated near each bed. Each bedroom receives sunlight at various times of the day. Three bedrooms are available for renters. One bedroom has twin beds, but if a double bed is requested in place of twin beds, we can accommodate that request by changing available bedrooms.

My sisters and I and kids (6 total) have stayed here for 3 years in a row. We've been coming with my parents to McFarland's cove since I was a baby, but my parents' cottage isn't big enough for everyone. This cottage is very nice: roomy, clean, well appointed and very convenient to the front and back cove. It's a Maine cottage, but done nicely. Cottage is as described. Margaret is very easy to deal with. We do lots of swimming, kayaking, walking, and exploring with the kids. We have a wonderful, family time, and will doubtless be back.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children

This is a very nice cottage! Nicely furnished and lots of room, everything you will need for your stay. Pretty remote location, I had two teenagers who got bored, but that's normal. Very picturesque area and lots of nature things to do. Small towns nearby provide many restaurants and shopping. It had been a very rainy Summer before we arrived, LOTS of mosquitoes was the only real downfall, would definetly recommend this cottage though.
