My wife and I rented this home for two weeks, and it was every bit as good as advertised. In many ways, better.
The home is spacious, airy, clean, charming, and convenient. It is an older home -- 100+ years -- but it has all the comforts and amenities you could want. Not just the big stuff, like central air, a washer and dryer, and a gorgeous stone patio, but little things like a second fridge in the garage and -- get this -- a coffee grinder. To be fair, some items are a little quirky, like windows that need propping up, but the owners have taken care of that, too. The age of the home is certainly a major part of its appeal, and it shouldn't dissuade anyone except the fussiest renters.
The town is quiet; very, very quiet. People in Little Compton generally keep to themselves, and you'll find only a few restaurants and only one bar in town. Don't expect night life in this part of Rhode Island -- although Newport is a manageable +/- 30-minute drive away.
Two adjoining beaches (South Shore and Goosewing) are open to the public, and a short drive of approximately five minutes from the house. A semi-private beach at the end of Round Pond Road is reachable only by bicycle or on foot, but is absolutely idyllic. And that's only about three miles from the house.
The owners, Jeanne and Bob, were exceptionally helpful in every way, too.
It's a great place, in a beautiful, restful community.
Go there instead for beautiful beaches, great bicycling, and gorgeous, New England, farmland-meets-the-sea scenery.
