Guestbook comments from the owner

The weather was great, skiing was great, the accommodations were great. Our stay could have not been better. The Hobbit House is truly a well crafted, unique and very "cozy" environment to have spent time with our family. Thank you for a first class experience, and sharing your space with us. We are looking forward to a return in the future and hopefully the Santa Fe Hobbit House will be available.

Best to you both!

A Little Barcelona (Gaudi) in Sante Fe

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Sante Fe Hobbit House for a week (March 28-April 4, 2014) through VRBO. The occasion was a birthday celebration and included four friends from around the country meeting in this beautiful city. The property was a perfect fit for our group. Our overall rating of the Hobbit House is "Excellent+++++".

If you have looked at other comments and photos about the house, you many not believe it can be so beautiful. The property is spectacular and a joy in which to spend time. The house was immaculately clean upon our arrival. There are stacks of clean towels and all the lotions and shampoo/conditioners you can want in the superbly furnished bathrooms. The room arrangement is very comfortable. We spent most of our time in the kitchen working on crossword puzzles and playing games. It is a pleasure to sit at the kitchen/dining room table and enjoy the craftsmanship.

The house includes a extremely well-equipped kitchen with all of the tools you need to enjoy home cooked meals. Not only is the kitchen furnished with cooking utensils and coffee makers, but well furnished with cooking oils and spices, etc. It was so nice to arrive late on our first night and see a pound of fresh ground coffee waiting for us so we didn't have to run to the store right away. The back deck is beautiful. The water feature in the backyard made it so inviting.

The Hobbit House is in a perfect location. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, but you are only blocks away from groceries (Trader Joe's and Whole Foods) and coffee shops and bakeries. The walk to the plaza is less than 30 minutes along a quiet residential street. A list of recommended restaurants and bakeries nearby is thoughtfully prepared and left for you.

If you are just looking for somewhere to "crash", don't rent the Hobbit House. This house is made for relaxation, enjoyment and enrichment in a beautiful environment. We would happily come back and glowingly recommend this property to our friends.

Enchanting

  • 5 of 5

As with the other reviewers, my friends and I were absolutely in awe of the Hobbit House. It was like staying in a comfortable, inviting art gallery with all of your needs anticipated in advance. There are so many things to take in with the architecture and art that we spent some time just "touring" the house. It is also extremely well appointed and there was nothing we could think of that was not in the house, exactly where you would expect it to be. The location is the best I have had in Santa Fe; quiet yet everything you might want to visit is easily accessible. The owners are fantastic and I'm also a fan of not having the laundry list of things to do when leaving. We will definitely stay there again as soon as possible.

Love, Love, Love Hobbit House!!!

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I visited Santa Fe for a fall getaway and stayed in the Hobbit House for four nights. I had seen this listing on VRBO about a year ago and determined to stay in this unique property. My expectations were high, but the Hobbit House exceeded them all! From the moment you drive up and see the outside of this home with its awesome landscaping and cool architecture, your heart begins to beat a little faster with anticipation.

When we opened the beautiful wood and stained glass front door, we were amazed to see the incredible interior of the home. Everywhere you look (even the ceilings!) you see fabulous artwork! The craftsmanship is just jaw-dropping. You just have to see it to believe the love that was put into the creation of this wonderland.

The backyard, with its beautiful water feature, creates such a relaxing experience. We enjoyed watching the butterflies on the lush landscaping and hearing the sound of the waterfall as we enjoyed our morning coffee.....ahhhhh.

The pictures are great but they cannot capture the feeling you get while staying in this quiet, peaceful retreat. The home welcomes you from the moment you arrive and is a delight until the moment you depart. Kudos to Sheila and Terry for anticipating every need of your guests and for creating and sharing this amazing home. Santa Fe is incredibly beautiful, but staying in the Hobbit House was definitely the highlight of our trip.

a Santa Fe Treasure

  • 5 of 5

When I and my three traveling companions stepped into The Hobbit House our mouths dropped open in unison with amazement. This place is a 1600 square foot work of art and a visual treat to behold. Comfortable, very well designed and well furnished, and close to the downtown area. We are hikers, and it was a perfect base of operations to explore that part of New Mexico. If you are looking for a VRBO in Santa Fe, look no further. This is the place to rent! I will strongly encourage my friends to consider a vacation in Santa, if only to experience The Hobbit House.

There's nowhere else to stay in Santa Fe...

  • 5 of 5

I've rented vacation homes many times and this was the FIRST time when I can honestly say the photos didn't do it justice. Hobbit House is like a museum - every nook, corner and cranny, there's something new. The craftsmanship on all of the details (the cabinets, stained glass, furniture, lighting) is absolutely incredible. If this home hasn't been on an HGTV show, it really should be.

It is wonderfully appointed. The kitchen was stocked with knives, pots, pans - everything. No hotel towels here - the bathroom towels are fluffy and luxurious. The beds are so comfortable that getting up in the morning was challenging. It is VERY clean - almost feels like brand new.

Usually with rentals, there's a list of things to do before leaving. The Hobbit House was an exception. No list and no scrambling around to get packed and chores done before leaving made for an unusually relaxing departure day.

Sheila was kind enough to field our questions about details of the house. It really is one of those places where you want to want open every cabinet because it feels like there might be a surprise inside. :)

My friends and I plotted how we might be able to stay at Hobbit House forever but we figured the next guests just might notice us. Thank you Sheila and Terry! We can't wait to come back.

Magnificent, clean home in a terrific location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I don’t travel often, but when we do I am extremely picky about our accommodations. I found the Hobbit House online after doing a search for places to stay in Santa Fe, and immediately knew this was the place for me. We drove up in the evening, so I wasn’t able to take in the gorgeous garden in the front of the house immediately, but was thrilled once we opened the door! What a glorious place to stay! The love and care put into this home were very apparent! Each room had a very special feature to it, whether it was the murals, the mosaics, the light radiating from the skylights – it was totally amazing! The kitchen was my favorite room – well-stocked, with a gorgeous ceiling and skylights and a wonderful view of the waterfall, garden and sunsets! Being an avid gardener, it was very apparent to me that Sheila had lovingly designed the landscaping, demonstrating that you can grow beautiful flowers in a drier climate. The mosaics and inlaid wood were magnificent and showed a tremendous artistic ability and talent to work with both mediums. We wouldn’t hesitate to return to the Hobbit House should we return to Santa Fe, a city of great diversity, great food, and lots to do! We would recommend this home to anyone who wants to visit the area.
