Hawaiian Style Beach House Ocean View - 1-Block-Water

Our family trip to Santa Cruz was bitter sweet as we were there for my momma's memorial. The house was a breath of fresh air when we arrived after a long journey. The pictures didn't give the space justice, perfect for entertaining/dinner parties. The kitchen was my favorite, fully stocked with everything I needed to cook dinner and even bake desserts! Gorgeous deck and view of the ocean, which is a hop skip and jump away. My husband was excited about the outdoor shower but unfortunately there was no hot water, great for the summer i suppose. Also didn't realize the guest house was attached to a garage apartment, but didn't bother us because no one was in there while we were there. Overall, we enjoyed our stay tremendously and would most defintely rent again.

P.s. The owners had everything we needed for my baby(8 months) and my nephew (2), that was a great plus for us.

My family and I had an absolutely wonderful week staying in this home. It is very well maintained and clean. The location was close to everything. A bike ride to most places , including natural bridges state park and capitola. The view from the upstairs deck was incredible and there is even seating and tables there to enjoy view with meals. We are definitely planning on returning and only hope that it continues to be available! My many thanks to for sharing it!

Lori's home is beautiful and the location is perfect. We walked to the beach every day. The section of beach nearest to the walking path is relatively uncrowded and was great for the kids. A bit of a walk to get to the water, but nothing major. My son still lists "digging for crabs and playing with them in my bucket" as one of his nightly "happy thoughts."

The second bedroom is actually bigger than the master and has bunk beds that are perfect for kids. My son was enamored. The beds themselves are large enough to accommodate adults (at least a full size mattress), so would work great for older kids too.

I think the home was split to separate the upper and lower stories which made for a slightly weird layout. Living areas are spacious, beautiful and well-appointed - huge dining room and counter at kitchen (as seem in photos) but master bedroom was smaller than anticipated. Bathroom next to master is also the laundry room. Shower in that bath was small so we all used the large primary bath. It didn't deter from the comfort of the home for us. My only regret is that we didn't get to take advantage of the amazing beach-view deck for meals - darn conflicting nap schedules! We were always trying to get out of the house or it was already dark at dinner time.

Lori has also anticipated her guests needs in so many small ways. The kitchen was really well stocked - there were no tools, utensils or cooking implements lacking and since we were there in the summer there was even a supply of dry goods in the pantry from Lori and previous guests. My son fell in love with the Disney charades game and VHS movies.

All in all it was a great visit, a perfect home, and we hope to make Hale Kai a regular vacation destination as our kids grow up. Thanks Lori!
