Susan Brubeck purchased this house boat in 2006
Sausalito is one of the most beautiful and romantic locations anywhere in the world. A houseboat is the quintessential location in Sausalito. To be on the water, with the constantly changing tides and wildlife, yet be so close to restaurants, entertainment, shopping and conveniences is ideal. Just minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco to the south and the wine country and redwoods to the north - plus the beaches at Muir and Stinson Beaches.
Having a private dock with kayak and paddle boat right on the Bay is great fun. From the houseboat you can go out into the Bay, see Sausalito from the water, Belvedere, Tiburon and San Francisco. The San Francisco Ferry across the Bay to San Francisco is just downtown 5 minutes away. Nearby freeway access to either San Francisco and Wine and Redwood country.
The houseboat has a gourmet kitchen and we provide every system and appliances, etc Available - two large plasma TV's both DVR/HD on cable with all the premium channels Wii games, etc. etc. We are tidal so when the tide is out, the sea birds and shore birds put on a show fishing in the mud. Then the tide comes in and you are floating on the Bay. The tide changes twice a day.
Our family had a wonderful five nights on the houseboat. My 3 kids loved the paddle boat, massage chair, big TV and the jumbo gorilla. It was a very comfortable home and a new experience for us. Thank you Martin for coming by to pump up one of the bicycle tires and helping us with the Wii game.
We spent a lovely weekend at Susan's Sausalito houseboat with three generations of girls ages 25-86 and had a great time. The home is really beautifully appointed and the bedrooms were plenty of room for the 7 of us. We ate dinner in on Friday night and relaxed, kayaked a bit Saturday morning as the weather was beautiful and then headed over to nearby Sausalito for the day. We spent a lovely foggy morning with coffee and jigsaw puzzles on Sunday before brunch....just wish we could have stayed longer!I hope to return with the girls again sometime soon!
Spent a lovely girls' weekend in Susan's beautiful houseboat with our 87 year-old mom. There were 8 of us ranging in age from 25-87 and we had plenty of room with great beds and the futon in the bunkbed room. The home was really so cool and the weather cooperated as well. Enjoyed dinner"in" Friday, kayaking in the morning, and then exploring nearby Sausalito for the afternoon and evening on Saturday. Wish we could've stayed longer! Hope to bring some of our girlfriends for another trip soon!
I have stayed at this home multiple times and Susan always makes it a great experience. The home is beautiful, clean and has everything you could need.
I have lived in Sausalito for many years and recently found myself in a situation where I needed a place to stay while friends and family were staying on my houseboat. So, of course, I decided to stay nearby the place I love so much and went to VRBO to see what other houseboats might be available. How lucky I was to come across this one. Being a bit spoiled, I wanted something close to the amenities I enjoy in my home. To my great surprise and satisfaction, I found even much more. Though it didn't have as expansive a view as I enjoy, I loved the cozy lagoon feeling this houseboat offered.
This floating home is one of the nicest I've been in -- very clean, well furnished, excellent television and music components, complete with nice towels, sheets, shampoos, soaps, (even two very nice bathrobes), etc. The kitchen is perfectly equipped with any appliance one might need. Though it is very close to my houseboat, I felt like I was away on a very special vacation and totally enjoyed every minute on it.
Strangely, as I opened the "Review" section here, I noticed a less-than-favorable review from a previous visitor and would like to say that I for one disagree with the minor complaints listed. Most all of the houseboats (almost 500) are located at the north end of Sausalito and are close to freeway access. Myself and my neighbors absolutely adore our unique lifestyle and have adapted to (or ignored) any freeway noise. The payoff comes from the peaceful beauty of the water, the bird life (especially at low tide), the wonderful sunrises and sunsets, and the easy access to the city, Mill Valley, Tiburon, etc. This is a very comfortable houseboat and one of the best offered on VRBO. Some people may have a different idea of houseboat living, but having been a houseboat dweller for more than 25 years now, I can honestly highly recommend this houseboat to you for a very pleasant experience of life on our beautiful bay.
My GFF and I ventured to Sausalito for a week long getaway and were so looking forward to a few days frolicking on the bay on kayaks and pedal boats. Unfortunately we were not able to do so because the properties water sport equipment were so run down and unusable we ended up wandering around town and sweltering in the heat.
The owner, Susan, was nice enough and was quick to come to our rescue when a stray dog was left at our door step the first night, but the $100 credit was hardly enough to boost up our spirits or confidence in the gentleman who was supposed to be available to us if we "needed anything" or had an issue.
The Good: Great kitchen and living room. Loved the large flat screen TV and the many appliance available to us. We found the espresso machine extremely cool and the supply of coffees and kitchenware great but over whelming. The unique art work was nice as was the books and paintings and cute artifacts placed throughout the house. Master bedroom, bath and guest bathroom were clean and nicely appointed with clean towels and scales.
Location was so so as you are aways from the South end of town and will need a car to get there unless you like a nice hike, but you are close to the neighboring town of Mill Valley.
The Bad: Clutter was everywhere (a knife was on the floor) and things just seemed either out of place or broken... example: kayaks were not safe, pedal boat was not sea worthy nor did it have a steering mechanism. The awesome cellestron celestial telescope while cool to marvel at was inoperable, and the fancy massage chair was straight up broken. What was also disappointing was both the view (of Highway 101) which was extremely noisy, and the location of the houseboat (the back side of the bay facing a swamp and roadway). Lamps were also broken and the BBQ was very corroded and a little skanky. The guest bedrooms were poorly appointed and awkwardly laid out and had very outdated TV's and furnishings.
Conclusion: If you are looking for a unique get-away and have never stayed on an in-famous Sausalito house boat this place may be for you, but if you want a beautiful, romantic view of the San Francisco bay, or want to treat your family and kids to exciting time on kayaks and a well kept vacation rental, then consider another place. But don't take my word for it - ask this owner about the view, the noise level, the furnishings in the guest bedrooms, and a few of your own questions. Consider other Sausalito options
My three grandchildren (17, 15, and 6) and I had five great days of "Camp Grandma" on this beautiful houseboat. The kids loved the kayaks and paddle boat, and we all enjoyed the Marin sights (Mt. Tam, Muir Woods, Stinson Beach, Sausalito, Tiburon) and the city (the Aquarium and the Rocketboat were big hits). The houseboat is beautifully decorated (I wanted to bring the artwork home) and a comfortable and fun place to relax at the end of the day. This place is not done up as a "rental" -- clearly the owner did it as a place she could enjoy herself. Books, pictures, linens, accessories -- a great find.
Beautiful Sausalito, the Bay and Hills, great dining and shopping, Ferry to San Francisco, drive north to Wine Country and Redwoods. This floating home has a small dock and kayak and paddle boat for 4 to view the harbor and houseboats.. 20 miles of bike paths/trails both to the Golden Gate Bridge and into beautiful Mill Valley and Tiburon/Belvedere, 1 included bike and bike rental adjacent. A small market and a great coffee shop are nearby.
