Townsend, TN:: Cades Cove, near Townsend, Tennessee is a great place for wildlife, biking, hiking, picnicking, exploring and horseback riding. You can go back in time when you visit the log cabin that was occupied by the early settlers in Cades Cove in the Smokies. Townsend has a five-mile-long walking/biking trail. It runs along both sides of highway, along the river in some places and has 3 tunnels underneath the highway, so you won't have to cross the highway. It goes almost to the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The Little River in Townend is great for tubing, fishing, and swimming. It is a wide, rocky and normally clear river that runs along the highway and is accessible at various public locations.
