The house was constructed by Carlos Amaya and is all varnished tropical hardwoods purchased from local subsistence farmers/neighbors under limited sustainable harvest permits (mostly brought in by horseback). The house is on the beach front portion of the property but faces the rain forest and a small private spring fed waterfall. You can see three of the four species of monkeys that reside in Costa Rica from the front porch or private covered gazebo (they come to eat the fruits from the palm next to the house and often look in from the skylight to see what you are doing-they can not get in however :)). Poor Mans Paradise resort has one of the largest concentrations of Scarlet Macaws in Costa Rica and is popular with birdwatchers as well as those interested in a real rain forest experience, sport fishing, or just getting away from it all on your own private beach. It is a wonderful experience for families.
Included are meals at the resort restaurant, daily housekeeping and hand washing of cloths.
Tours are arranged at the resort and include Cano Island, Corcovado National park, horseback tours (including one to a local traditional farm), dolphin and whale watching, night tours, sport fishing and snorkeling, or just go off and explore on your own (with advise from us and/or at the resort).
There is a small bar on the resort but it closes down early.
