The Crested Butte area is unique. The road from Gunnison is a 30 mile ride down a spectacular valley that ends at Crested Butte, a former mining town that is designated as a national historical site. You are surrounded by majestic mountains on all sides with views that rival anywhere in the world. The area has a reputation of being friendlier and less commercial than most other ski area/mountain towns. The ski slopes are seldom very crowded and lift lines are usually short. There are plenty of expert, intermediate and beginners runs to keep you busy for days, and of course, there is a great ski school with ski and snowboard lessons for all ages.
