One week stay in July

We were happy with this condo rental. The condo is newer compared to most other accommodations in Grand Lake which are mostly cabins, lodges, and motels. It is clean and has all of the amenities. We only cooked breakfast and lunch and did dinner in the very good restaurants in town. The location is good. This condo is not right in town. It is located on the opposite end of the main street from all of the shops and restaurants. I would say the walk is maybe a quarter to a half of a mile to the start of the main drag with another four blocks to the end of it. While we like to be right in the heart of things, we did not find the location as inconvenient in that we were only a two or three minute drive away. Our son actually walked home a couple of nights. The tradeoff for having a modern condo in exchange for being a little out of the way was worth it. In regard to the proximity to the Rocky Mountain National Park and Trail Ridge Road, the Condo complex is right across the street from the road that leads to the park gate, maybe a mile or so away.
The condo had DirecTV including Showtime, which was nice. It would be advisable for the owner to install a flat screen TV in lieu of the tube. We would have also liked to have some patio furniture to enjoy the view and the cool evenings. Being a first floor condo, I suppose these things might walk away but I suspect the owner could figure something out. One evening we returned home after dark and a resident advised us not to walk toward the dumpster because a bear was hanging out there. My son and I thought it was cool. My wife didn't think it was so cool.
Grand Lake is a very lovely town. It is small and very laid back. During the summer afternoons, a lot of tourists are in town walking up and down the boardwalk and doing a little shopping and eating. By 10:00 at night, the main street is a ghost town. The only cars at that point are at the town’s only real saloon, The Lariat. The people who live in Grand Lake and the homes surrounding it are very loyal to the community and really enjoy its setting with panoramic mountains in the background and a beautiful lake in Grand Lake. The town also has a professional theatre called the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre. We saw all three summer productions which were outstanding with very talented young professional actors.
Like the previous poster, we didn't have much contact with the owner. We exchanged a couple of emails which was fine.
