Beautiful 1950s vacation house on 5 acres in a quiet and private area, with mountains to the south, bordering the park and long serene vistas to the north. Five minutes from “downtown” Joshua Tree and 8 minutes from the Park’s west entrance.
Tastefully furnished with two bedrooms plus a comfortable sofa bed in the living room. Fine linens, fireplace, fully equipped kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining areas, patio, and screened-in porch.
Walking distance from a wonderful hiking trail on the Parks northernmost border. Enjoy sunrises over 29 Palms and spectacular sunsets over Mount San Gorgonio.
A desert getaway to write that chapter of your book, paint that painting, relax, or hike the trails of the Joshua Tree National Park.

We have stayed at Quail Mountain House several times over the years, and always return to Los Angeles feeling refreshed and rejeuvenated even if it's just been a short trip.
This house is an extremely special place, thoughtfully designed and furnished to be a balance of modern and cozy. A highlight of staying here is waking up in either of the bedrooms to an incredible view of the mountain. When the sun is rising, the color of the light cast on the rocks is one of the most beautiful things you can experience.
For people who like to cook, the kitchen is extremely well equiped, with a good gas stove, and lots of counter space. It's a short drive to town to get essentials at the health food store (including some fresh produce and organic wines), or to the farmers market which takes place in the same parking lot on Saturdays.
There is a wonderful collection of books, fiction and non-fiction, CDs and DVDs, and wood burning fireplace, if you bring firewood. I often end up reading a new book from the collection from cover to cover while staying there.
Another major highlight is the close access to hiking trails from a short drive up towards the mountain. There are some marked trails that lead into the park from a point close by. As long as you take water and have a good sense of direction, you can figure out incredible walks into the mountains that get you back to where you've parked. It takes a bit of experimenting, and you need to be extremely mindful of the route you take, but it's incredible to be hiking on trails where you don't run into anyone else.
This is type of place where you can really get into a meditative state and leave the world behind. It is a perfect place for writers or creative people that are looking for a retreat, as well as great place for a short getaway.
We loved this house!!! It is serene, beautiful, and abundant. The interior and exterior are like a piece of art that blends in with the desert surroundings so tastefully. The quail and bunnies squirting across the patio were so magical as well as the pink, twinkling sky at sunrise and dusk. We wish we could have stayed longer. It's a very inspiring place for a desert retreat. Thank you!
The house and location were perfect. Quiet, secluded, and relaxing! Made great new Joshua Tree memories that complement numerous childhood Joshua Tree memories.
What a perfect place to recharge and enjoy Joshua Tree! Photos do not do justice. Short drive to the west park entrance, slightly longer but pleasant drive to north park entrance. The house is very clean, well appointed and comfortable, very cozy in winter and affords beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and wildlife. Kitchen patio is the perfect place to watch the sunrise, but you can catch it though the bedroom windows, too. Compact but plenty of room for two adults and our two young kids. Warm fireplace, cozy bedrooms and roomy screened porch. A minor wi-fi issue was handled immediately and courteously. Owners are responsive throughout the booking process and utterly respect your privacy. Enjoy!
From the time we pulled up the driveway, we all knew we wanted to return again in the future. The house is so beautiful and comfortably cozy, with an elegant simplicity. The view was amazing, especially waking up to the rocky hill views from the bedrooms. We had a fabulous 2 days climbing rocks in Joshua Tree National Park, only a short drive from the house. Our 5- and 2-year old boys both loved our stay as well. We hope to get back to this house in the fall. Thank you for sharing it with us!
