Thank you Herb for sharing your piece of "paradise" with us. It was great to relax after the the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. Loved our beach walks. Keep up the good work. All the best. You are a great host Herb everything we asked for you obliged. Aloha
Owners are so warm and generous with tips to local hikes, restaurants, maps etc. The place is perfect studio apartment for a couple -- ours was a 50th birthday celebration trip for just husband and wife. The kitchen was great -- especially the icemaker for filling our little cooler and we used the washer and dryer several times. Thanks to owners for having beach chairs and beach towels and extra bath towels for our use. The little book they made up of maps and local kayak companies numbers etc was a sweet touch. Loved catching sunrise every morning from the beach that is just outside the door. We chose this location for proximity to Lanikai beach and found the even closer Kailua Beach Park just as lovely -- same impossibly blue water. We enjoyed driving over to Hanauma Bay one day and driving up to the Pali lookout as well. And the little hike to the pillboxes over Lanikai beach is steep STEEP! but soo worth it. Bring your camera for amazing panoramic views. For dinner, we loved the Thai place and the Crepe place was really delicious (esp the Healthy Alternative crepe with strawberries, bananas, granola, yogurt and honey. Yummo!) We had a great time. This was the perfect place to stay -- has everything you need with the ocean right there and generous hosts who were available when we needed them but we had plenty of privacy as well. Thanks for everything. We will definitely stay with you when we come again. Warmest wishes, Karen and Blair
I mean directly on the world's ranked No. 1 beach, with fine soft white sand, turquoise water, gentle breeze, amazing sun rise and panoramic view.
This is the best place on the Island, why would you want to go anywhere else.
I did a lot of research and places say at the beach, steps from the beach, yards from the beach but they wasn’t directly ON the beach. We came to Oahu for our tenth Anniversary plus it was on my bucket list!
*The outside is an amazing place. There is a direct access to the lawn sitting area in front of the beach, basically used only by the renters. We had our morning coffee, while watching the sun rise from the lawn.
There is no parking fees and right in front of your own private entrance!
*The apartment has a living room area to watch TV with a room divider door in case someone is still sleeping, a long large desk that we used to eat lunch or look up our plans for the day on our laptop.
There is a comfortable King size bed, plenty of pillows and extra blankets in the closet.
The ceiling fans and the trade winds keep the apartment very cool in the summer.
How about the closet space, way more than enough room for the 4 suitcases I brought….lol
There is a great kitchenette which includes a washer/dryer, how great is that! Outside they have a clothes line to hang your bathing suits up if you don’t like to put them in the dryer and an outside shower to wash off sand.
You could just stay in the apartment your entire stay but you must see the sites.
I recommend the Polynesian Culture Center with luau and show. It was awesome!
*The owners Shari and her father Herb are warm and friendly and are there only when you need them.
They have their own yard and entrance. It is very quiet and you don’t even know they are there.
They have beach chairs, snorkeling masks, cooler and Boogie boards for your use.
We stayed here for 4 nights and then the Outrigger Waikiki Shore on the Beach for 6 nights.
The Outrigger was ok but not the privacy, not the sand, not the relaxation, overcrowded and loud.
Not the price and parking was 35. a night.
When I arrived in Waikiki I just kept thinking about Kailua Beach and how much I missed it.
You could still stay in Kailua and travel to Waikiki for the sites. Pilipu Place is only 20-25 minutes away.
So, I suggest you pick this place as you will not be disappointed. Book soon as it will book up fast!
Thanks Shari and Herb for a great vacation! Miss you
This spacious apartment was most attractively appointed in traditional Hawaiian style and is literally 59 steps to the most beautiful beach on Oahu. Imagine white sand, clear, warm, turquoise water, and because the bay is surrounded by reef, the waves are very gentle all year round. The unit is equipped with ceiling fans, however the soft trade winds that blow on this side of the island are all that is needed to keep cool.
Herb and Shari were the most gracious hosts, providing us with privacy when wanted but also provided tips such as where to get fresh malasadas. The unit is equipped with everything you could need for a week's stay, although you might like to experience some of the many and varied restaurants in Kailua. We picked up fresh malasadas from Rose's Portuguese bakery and had them evey morning for breakfast along with a fresh papaya or two. Although we just enjoyed the beautiful beach in front of the house, there are plenty of things for the more-active to do, just a mile up the beach at Kailua State Beach Park at Lanikai - think snorkeling (sea turtles), kayaking to the Mokuluas (bird sanctuary), wind sailing and surfing.
This was the most ideal place for a kick-back vacation and we will certainly be back again. Our thanks to Herb and Shari for the most relaxing vacation ever!
This suite is EXACTLY as described - Everything you will require is here.
Fridge is small but enough space for the basics and the ice maker is a plus.
Washer and dryer worked well and the clothes lines on side of the house were a big plus for swimsuits and towels.
Bathroom is a good size and very clean with plenty of towels, cloths and beach towels.
Living area is comfy. We watched movies(redbox has plenty of locations in Kailua) on the Bluray player in the evenings.
Bed was very comfortable and the sheets soft. There are two huge closets with loads of hangers and shelves. Extra blankets, cooler and snorkels/mask are there.
There are two good ceiling fans that kept the place cool and windows along one entire side of the suite that bring in light and a breeze. The sound of waves is always heard and so soothing.
There is plenty of lighting to use on a dull day.
A few steps down from your private entrance is the most incredible beach. There's a small table and chairs plus two adirondack chairs on the lawn for use. We chose to take the beach chairs provided and spent most of our time directly on the beach in front of the house. Bodyboards provided were fun!
Parking is off the street and directly in front of your private gate access.
Wifi is marginal at best. We did mention this on our departure and they said they would be improving it right away.
Shari(daughter) and Herb(father)are warm and friendly and quick to answer any questions or resolve any problems you may have. They are there when you need them but otherwise leave you to your privacy.
Don't hesitate on booking this little piece of heaven :)

Wow, what a great find! We have stayed at several rentals in Kailua through the years an discovered this one to be our perfect location!
The rental sits right at mid-point of Kailua Bay, offering beautiful sunrises! With the beach just steps away from our front door, made our morning walks super convenient. The rental is clean, cozy, and decorated Hawaiian Style with a comfortable king size bed, and over head fans to keep you cool.
The floor to ceiling windows brought in nice air circulation as well.
The cupboards were stocked with extra sets of bath towels, big beach towels, and bed quilts for cooler nights.
The great luxury of a washer/dryer was at arms reach from bathroom. Just outside the rental were out door showers we loved, along with a big clothes line to hang up our beach towels an wet suits for quick drying!
There were nice beach chairs for our use, and the boogie boards available made swimming fun in the shore break waves.
The cute kitchenette provided us with all the utensils necessary for cooking our breakfasts an making picnic lunches which we took out to the front lawn to enjoy at our leisure. There was a 'Keurig' coffee maker with a selection of courtesy coffee pods to start us out with, upon our arrival... a huge plus for coffee lovers, and makes an awesome cup of espresso coffee, so quick an easy! The refrigerator had a "great" ice maker (we did not have to fiddle with the little ice trays!) that allowed us to make ample smoothies and our evening daiquiris before going out to dinner!
The "private" beach in front of house made crowds minimal and so enjoyable, giving you the most pleasant relaxation time to unwind an soak in the sun...
The variation of "on shore" trade winds at this time, gave us an opportunity to rent long boards just down the road and surf in fun size shore break waves with no crowds... We were so happy to experience the 'South Kona Wind' shift for the last day of our stay, bringing the bay to "lake like" waters, which left us with great memories wanting to come back! In as much, the nice owners were especially accommodating an gave us great suggestions! Loved this place and highly recommend it!
Location is great but that is only positive in our opinion. Owners had TV on very loud at night. It was very cold and rainy but no blanket or comforter provided only bed cover to be used for this purpose per owner. Rental has dungeon feel due to low ceilings and lack of natural light. Kitchen sink smells bad. It is close to town and can walk to beach which are positives but there are many other properties that provide great access and far better accommodations in Kailua. Also over priced for such accommodations in our opinion
