*Fivespot is perfect for a fall getaway! We've still got availability in October and November...* Fivespot cabin is located in California's Sierra Nevada mountains, near the giant sequoia trees and spectacular Kings Canyon. It's a favorite of children and families, with its cozy loft bed, fireplace, vintage claw-foot bathtub, book and board games collection, and artful decor. Everyone enjoys the ample outdoor spaces to read, lounge, dine, and converse. A new cedar sauna, a recycled-tile outdoor shower, gardens, a trail to a star-gazing hill, stone patio, and front porch are popular features of the property. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are a 15-minute drive away. Much less crowded than Yosemite, these parks offer fantastic views, splendid hiking, and towering sequoias.

  • The bedroom has a queen sized bed as well as a single loft bed - kids love it! Supported by a tree pole with a safety railing all around, it also has its very own arts and crafts window looking out to the mountain beyond. Below the loft is a single futon on the floor, which can be moved to another room if desired. The bedroom library is eclectic, with an emphasis on classic books. The art on the walls ranges from traditional landscapes to playful minimalism. There's plenty of storage too. The sofabed in the living room is comfortable firm foam - no uncomfortable bar to disturb your sleep.

Notes: The cabin is cozy, but the outdoor lounging areas are spacious, so there's plenty of room for everyone. We use only natural, non-toxic cleaners, and all linens are 100% cotton. Although owners Bachrun and Mahalia LoMele live next door to the property and share a driveway, the cabins are on different elevations and retain their privacy. The LoMele's are happy to advise or assist, if necessary.

Year-round comfort and fun at Fivespot: Summer is the high season in the Sierras, for good reason: the sun shines from June through October. Hiking trails are open, wildlife and wild flowers abound. But we locals enjoy the fall, winter, and spring even more - sun gives way to rain and snow, life quiets down, time to rest and renew. Fivespot is perfect for an off-season retreat. The road to the cabin is kept cleared of snow, and the road into the Parks is accessible if you have 4-wheel drive or chains (we can help you with that). The fireplace and sauna keep you cozy; you've got time to think, write, read, or just relax. It's a delightful time of year - please consider a visit!

Winter activities at and around Fivespot: Winter is never far from Fivespot: at 4000' elevation, we get at least one substantial storm each year. If you are lucky enough to be here at the perfect moment, you can snowshoe right out the back door. But the cabin is also perfectly situated for near-certain winter adventures - it's just a 15 minute drive to the entrance of Kings Canyon National Park, where sequoias are blanketed in deep snow all winter. And Fivespot is right on a well-maintained and often-plowed state road, so access is easy. Snow play, snow shoeing, and cross-country skiing are these Parks' best winter activities.

My boyfriend and I just spent New Years in this wonderful cabin. I was a little concerned about booking a cabin in the mountains because I'm a 26-year-old, 100% city girl but this cabin matched every hotel that I have ever stayed in. The cabin had a perfect located with modern decor and appliances. It had the added ammenity of a fabulous sauna. The homeowners were very nice even after I broke a plate and even had cute little extras like microwave popcorn and ever variety of hot tea. We are planning another trip to this cabin and I have told all of my friends about it, WONDERFUL.

My husband and I loved Fivespot's modern and artistic flair in the middle of the forest, but I think our children enjoyed this great little cabin even more! The bunk beds, the table with small games and toys, and a variety of books (and I don't want to forget to mention the chalkboard wall complete with pastels and eraser for them to draw on) made their stay really special and unique. We enjoyed going on little walks right from our door, or walking up the small hill behind the cabin where a few chairs sat for us to enjoy the great view and quiet of the mountains.

Every detail was thought of by the owners and it made our stay so comfortable. The owners were wonderful themselves, very down to earth, creative, and helpful. Thank you again!!

This "cabin" exceeded all my expectations. Tastefully furnished and decorated in an artistic fashion. So comfortable! Much more than a "cabin". All the necessary amenities and then some. Owners are wonderful. Very convenient to Kings Canyon & Sequoia. Great to be without TV or Cell Phone! Every day exceeded the prior day in de-stressing and re-energizing my batteries. I will absolutely return!

We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It's got just the right balance of rustic charm and modern convenience. Apart from groceries, it had absolutely everything we needed.

The setting is charming and peaceful, and animal life is abundant.

The parks are nearby, and it is a good starting point for visiting both Sequoia and Kings Canyon parks.

Highly recommended.
Owner's Response: Fivespot guests should bring their own groceries up from Fresno or Visalia, but the cabin is stocked with pantry staples (cooking oil, tea/coffee, sugar, spices, etc.) to make meal planning and preparation a bit simpler for travelers. Contact Mahalia for a complete list.

There is also a local restaurant/bar (the Pinehurst Lodge) within walking distance of the cabin.

We spent a lovely and romantic weekend in the mountains at this cabin. It was the perfect jumping off spot for the parks, which even treated us to a bit of a snow!

The cabin was beautifully designed and between the sauna, amazing bathtub, and warm fire place we were perfectly recharged for our next day of hiking each night.

Mahalia was an amazing host and went out of her way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible, thanks!

I highly recommend the Fivespot Cabin.
