Our apartment is on the border of Greenpoint and Williamsburg, home to hipsters and the heart of NY's indie music scene. Just named 'Best Shopping Neighborhood' by Time Out New York, Williamsburg has been a haven to artists of all kinds, and hosts a slew of galleries and concert venues--hit venue Warsaw is just around the corner. New restaurants open up each week--Heath Ledger's new cafe is around the corner from the apartment. The gentrification of Williamsburg has steadily moved north into Greenpoint, with new condos popping up on almost every corner. Neighborhood residents are a mix of Polish-Americans and twenty- and thirty-something artistic types. The best (and cheapest!) Polish food in NYC can be found on nearby Manhattan Avenue. McCarren Park (home to kickball, softball, and tennis courts) is around the corner, and East River State Park, with gorgeous waterfront views of Manhattan, is a short (10-15 minute) walk away.

Cosy apartment in great Brooklyn location

Lucy79 Melbourne, Australia
Review Submitted: April 19, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
My husband and I stayed here for 3 weeks in March 09. We found the apartment very clean with amenities such as tv, bar fridge, microwave, crockery and cutlery. The apartment was nicely decorated and there is outdoor access which is nice.

The location in Brooklyn is great we had a fabulous time exploring this area of Brooklyn and found heaps of cool cafes, shops, and bars right on the doorstep.

The owner was extremely helpful and very easy to deal with. I would recommend staying here.

great stay in nyc

A group of my girlfriends and I stayed here for a week while we explored NYC on a girls trip. The basement was cozy, there were 4 of us girls but we knew what we were getting into. I really like that the room lock was electronic and it gets changed with each user. What the room could use though, is extra plugs or a power strip for charging phones, ipods, blow-drying/straightening hair. In the meantime, if you can you may want to pack one of your own. If you are tall this may not be a place you would be particularly interested in staying. I am 5'9" and when I put my high heels (4") on I would hit my head on the beams. Out back is a patio & garden; the garden would be beautiful if it was maintained properly, it has some of the only greenery I saw besides in Central Park. Also, remember that you are staying in a basement so you will hear people walking around in the floor above you. If you have really sensitive hearing you may want to pack ear plugs. Just down the road was Gourmet Deli Delight a 24 hour grocery store that we frequented and a couple of blocks from there was Original Pizza which we thought was very good. We took the subway into downtown NY a lot using a weekly pass (you should get one if you are going to be doing that too). Our group all went to see different Broadway plays. My friend and I went to Wicked, and particularly enjoyed it. Our favorite meal on the run was Gray's Papaya on 72nd, they had a "recession special" which was 2 dogs and a drink for $4.45. This is not the only Gray's just the one that was easiest for us to find on our route. Overall our stay was excellent, we enjoyed the city & met interesting people everywhere we went.

Perfect home base

Amy and Marty Athens GA
Review Submitted: November 11, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
We stayed here for a long weekend and had a great time. This apartment was ideally located for us...my best friend lives nearby. Also, the G train, a Brooklyn local, was super convenient. The L, which goes straight into Manhattan, was about a 10 min pleasant walk. The apt was very clean and the shower was hot with lots of water pressure. There was a microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. Several NYC guides were in the apt as well. The ceilings are a little lower than we're used to, and no windows, but pleasant nonetheless and we didn't go to hang out in the apartment. It was a perfect spot to rest in the afternoon. Very quiet, too. An adorable little cafe with awesome food and -this is important- most wonderful coffee is right around the corner--Five Leaves. Walk down Bedford Ave 10 min and you are in a super-hipster main drag of Williamsburg with sweet shopping and food all around. There you can catch the L train into Manhattan to see all its sights.
All in all, I would recommend this apartment! It was a great home base in the perfect location for us, clean, secure, with a helpful and friendly owner.

Highly recommended

Review Submitted: November 11, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
My girlfriend & I stayed in this room recently while visiting friends & family in NY/NJ/PA. We were completely satisfied with the property.

It was clean, comfortable and secure. We were mostly in Brooklyn, so the location was great for us: the G line, while limited, was right around the corner, and it was about a two-minute walk to my new favorite cafe in the world (Five Leaves, across the street from Lokal -- the coffee was perfect). Short walk down to the shops & etc. in Wmsbrg. We took a car into Manhattan on Friday & Saturday night for about $18 plus tip -- very affordable and our car service arrived quickly.

Mini-fridge came in handy for water & snacks. Shower had good water pressure & heat. very little street noise -- i slept like a baby. Didn't watch the TV but it was good to know it was there.

I will note two conditions that renters should be aware of: the ceilings are very low, so if you are over 6' you will be stooping most of the time (i hit my head on an I-beam and i'm only 5'10"). Also, the steps leading downstairs are very steep and could be treacherous if one was not vigilant. These are minor considerations IMHO and i found the accommodations otherwise perfect. The description is accurate, the owner's directions & recommendations were helpful, and i would certainly recommend this property to others wanting to stay in Brooklyn.
Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your stay!
