Overview

West Yellowstone Cabin Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedroom, 2.5 Bath Cabin + Studio apt., (Sleeps 8)

'Check out our Video in the top left corner of the main picture.'

Our custom built, 1600 sf cabin, which we affectionately refer to as 'The Fishing Shack', was completed in the fall of 2008. An additional 350 sf studio apartment was completed and will be ready to rent for the 2013 season. The property is located on the Madison River, known for its majestic beauty and world class fly fishing. The cabin is a gorgeous, 30 minute drive to the entrance of Yellowstone National Park and about an hour to the winter hot spot, Big Sky Ski Resort. With its fabulous location, reclaimed barnwood floors, custom kitchen, 3 flat screen TVs, a Jotul wood-burning stove, and floor to ceiling windows, it is a magical vacation spot certain to deliver year round fun.

The master suite has a queen bed with pillow top mattress, flat screen TV, French doors opening to a 5 person Bullfrog Jacuzzi Tub overlooking the river, and a custom built pebble shower with dual shower heads (including a rain head). There are two bedrooms upstairs, each with log bunk beds (twin on top & queen below). Open the windows and let the smell of the mountains and the sound of the river lull you to sleep. The open loft has a cozy seating area, a third flat screen TV with DVD player, and Game Cube system for the kids (and the kids at heart). Directly on the river, you will find a large fire pit perfect for staying warm and making s'mores while watching the fishermen in your family catch that big brown just feet away.

Our cabin is located 30 minutes from Ennis and 35 minutes from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. It is situated in a friendly residential community with about six other homes and delightful neighbors. It is across the river from a Forest Service campground and a short walk to the world famous 'Grizzly Bar & Grill' (you must sample their delightful wine selection).

Our location is perfect for year round Montana fun and adventure. In the winter, spend your days skiing the famed slopes of Big Sky Ski Resort, snowmobiling in West Yellowstone, cross country skiing on miles of pristine trails, watching the bald eagles soar above the river while soaking in the jacuzzi, or simply enjoying the beauty of the Madison while curled up with a good book by the wood burning stove. Fill the long summer days with activities such as fishing from the property, floating the Madison, exploring Yellowstone National Park, hiking beautiful mountain trails, horseback riding, listening to live music while sipping local wines and soaking in the Norris Hot Springs, experiencing an authentic Montana rodeo or riding the antique railway in historic Virginia City.

We hope you enjoy our cabin as much as we do, and we look forward to sharing the beauty of Montana with you.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hello Dave, Here are my comments added to your listing… All true “We have always wanted to Visit Montana, and this cabin was the icing on the cake! The pictures on this site do not do it justice! It is not only a beautiful place to stay but a great place to relax. We enjoyed the river, lots of fishing from the property and rafting down the river. The drive to Yellowstone was only 35 minutes and well worth it! The owners were wonderful to deal with; my deposit was returned very promptly. I am definitely staying there again. We have been lucky enough to travel all over the world and this was one of the BEST vacations we have taken!!” Will talk to you In March to book again next summer J Thanks,Robbin

We (4 of us) arrived on Nov 8th for a 10 day Elk Hunt and it was all we had expected, looked just like the pictures and more.

Very comfortable, will stay there again.

Wonderful place to relax!

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed the Fishing Shack so much! The sound of the rushing river going by as I sat on the deck was heavenly. I could have stayed in that spot all week! What a beautiful location and a beautiful home! The home is very well equipped. We enjoyed going to Yellowstone National Park several times and appreciated that it was only about 45 minutes away. We also enjoyed the animal rescue park in West Yellowstone. The fire pit was a lot of fun -- we enjoyed making smores! We didn't do any fishing ourselves, but enjoyed watching all the fly fishing going on in the river. Madison River is beautiful! We enjoyed some of the local trails as well. This was our first trip to Montana and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing this wonderful home with us! I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Best fall trip

  • 5 of 5

I would like to thank Dave and Maureen for all the help during our stay. This home is beautiful and felt warm and inviting. Our trip was fantastic. The home is close enough to so much but far enough away that you can just relax. Spent many an hour watching fishermen from the porch. We came prepared for a lot but when we got there we realized that we didn't need as much as we brought. I know everyone who was with us is planning to go back. This is a place worth the cost. Thanks.

Awsome vacation rental

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our 11 day stay at "The Fishing Shack" this past September. The home is very well constructed and has a great floor plan. At the start of the trip the weather was warm, we were able to open windows and turn on the ceiling fan and keep the home very comfortable. At the end of the trip, we had a couple days of rain and even some snow flurries. We were able to keep the home warm with the heater. We thought the wood burning stove would be too much so we did not use it. Again, we were very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped with quality appliances, plenty of cooking utensils, dishes and anything else you may need. We used the bar-b-que, enjoyed the deck, and enjoyed the clean hot tub. The kitchen was great and we cooked several meals in the Cabin. But, we also thought the Grizzly Bar and Grill located just a short walk away was a nice "extra" feature for the Cabin. We spent several days visiting Yellowstone. The drive is about 30 minutes, which may seem like a long drive, but the road is very good and the scenery of beautiful. We did get to see some Big Horn Sheep along the drive. After a day dealing with "crowds" at the park, it was so nice to return to peaceful surroundings at the "The Fishing Shack". It is well worth the drive. My husband did some fishing in the Madison River just outside of the Cabin. He uses a spinning rod with flies and fishes from the shore, not the ideal method for this river. However, he did catch 3 fish. The first one broke the 4 pound line that he normally uses in the Sierras, 8 pound seemed to work fine. We really enjoyed watching the fly fisherman from the deck. We would love to return again in the future. This is a great rental, very comfortable and has everything you need to have a wonderful time.

Great family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying here with my family. Amazing area, beautiful house and great access to fishing and Yellowstone. Having coffee on the deck, Learning how to fly fish with my father (right on the river in the backyard), and the picturesque drive to Wade and Cliff lakes were my favorite things. Can't wait to go back to Montana, and when I do I would definitely stay at Heather and Dave's house again.

Wonderful location on the Madison!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cabin! It was so beautiful, with nice decor and amenities. We used this as a base to travel to Grand Teton NP & Yellowstone NP. We spent a day in Ennis, another day in Virginia City, and some time at the Norris hot springs. Loved everything! The Grizzly Bar & Grill right near the cabin has FANTASTIC food; closed on Tuesdays. There was another restaurant right near the cabin, but it has closed. We did go to the Lakeside Lookout Bar & Grille (between the cabin & West Yellowstone)- it was also terrific. My husband fly-fished in the Madison right outside the cabin, so he was in heaven. Tip- if you fly in to West Yellowstone airport, go to the town of West Yellowstone (10mins away) for groceries/supplies before heading to the cabin (~30-40mins from airport). There are no stores/gas stations near the cabin. There are many businesses in Ennis, but that is 30 miles past the cabin. A very enjoyable trip!
