This is the famous site of Captain Cook's Monument and King Kamehameha's final reign.
The Ohana has a gourmet kitchen with views to ocean and the great room where conversations will flow during your delightful meal preparations. At the pool is a outdoor shower & bathroom for your use. Pool is private to the property and is shared by both the Main house and the Guest house. Play a game of volleyball on the beach sand court, or stroll on the 1/2 mile walking path. This Ohana is maintained like new ,so come and be one of the first to enjoy this slice of paradise. A welcoming basket will greet you upon arrival. The Ohana is fully furnished, with all you need for your stay. Including large beach/pool towels and beach cooler. I will be available to answer any & all question's about the area & things to do. INCREDIBLE VIEWS OF THE OCEAN AND THE QUIET OF COUNTRY LIVING
A beautiful home on a beautiful piece of property. We stayed in the Ohana guest house and it exceeded our expectations in most areas. It is very clean, private and quiet. The views from the Lanai are phenomenal. Nice hardwood floors so be sure to take your shoes off before entering,,, as the fun note on the side says. This is pretty common these days and not at all unreasonable.
The market isn't real close by so be sure to plan a trip to the store. We stopped prior to arriving at the house on our fist day. We also made a Costco run the next day to stock up for the week.
The house is not in the main tourist area which is why we booked it, we didn't want the noise & congestion of that part of the Island.
Perfect, no but I'd go back in a minute. Beautiful home, I'd recommend it to anyone going to the Big Island.
I do have to comment on a review someone else did complaining about the pool not being heated. Geeze, it's Hawaii and " nobody " heats their pools. After all it's a swimming pool not a Sauna. The " house information book " makes it clear that there is a charge for turning the hot tub on which to me is odd...but that's okay we probably wouldn't have used it anyway. There's also a charge if you want the air conditioning on. but by opening the windows ( they are screened ) and having the fans on it was never warm or uncomfortable. It was perfect.
As stated they supply very nice towels and there is a washer & dryer so you need to do your own laundry, after all it's a house, not a hotel. I did find it all that we were only given one roll of paper towels and two extra rolls of toilet paper. Odd yes but not unreasonable I suppose, there's a WalMart & Target down the road.
Another review or two mention that Dan wasn't necessarily the most polite person. So what if his interpersonal skills are less than you'd get at Macy's. After all it is his house and his business. He even apologized for his being curt during an email we got. He was off island during our stay so we dealt with the property manager Tammy who was very nice and professional. A good source for local information too.
We enjoyed ourselves immensely at this house. We rented the large guest house for 4 adults and it was perfect. The house was very clean and beautifully furnished. The view is breathtaking of Kealakekua Bay. We even saw dolphins from the lanai a couple of times. We watched the sunset from here almost every night. We rented kayaks to paddle the bay and snorkel twice which was just 5 minutes away. The property manager was very attentive to our needs. She came over later after we checked in to give us snorkel gear which was in great shape. We really enjoyed our stay and hated to leave. I would definitely rent this house again.
Our family of five stayed at the Guest Ohana for ten nights. The house is beautiful, well maintained and very clean. The appliances including cookware and silverware and the furnishings are upscale. The towels and linens were first class. The house is private and secluded. The five year old especially enjoyed the pool.
We enjoyed having morning coffee on the back porch overlooking the bay. One morning whales entertained us. Almost every morning the porpoises (Spinner Dolphins) cruised the bay. We would walk ten minutes to the park at the end of the road to watch the sunset.
The snorkeling at “two steps” and Hookeana bay was very good. We spent one day at Volcanoes National Park (bring warm clothes). One day we went to eastern part of the island to view the waterfalls and the Hula Festival.
Tammy (property manager) was very helpful by providing suggestions for dining and directions to best local shops and grocery stores.
We had a great time at your guest house. Such a warm, comfortable & clean home. The views are tremendous and seeing Humpback whales right there in the Bay, was such a delight. My parents were charmed by the whole thing and that's quite an accomplishment because they have high standards ! Hoping to be back there next year.
10959996 “Great house, BUT...”
This property is beautiful as stated. It is quiet, has a great view and both houses are very nice and well equipped. At this point, the good stops. The owner is rude and you will not likely get your deposit back even if you don’t touch anything ! The property manager went through the house with us upon arrival pointing out all the things we couldn’t touch or use. She warned us to not turn the refrigerator temperature down. The temperature in the frig mostly stayed at 50 degrees. Obviously, not cold enough to store the steak, chicken and fish we planned to cook for the week. If we had not had rented both house thus having access to the guest house frig, we would have lost several hundred dollars worth of meat or even worse, become ill. With all the warnings we received, we were not warned about the wasp hive by the pump house. Two of our children were traumatized with stings as they headed to the volleyball court one morning. The pool is frigid to the point of being uncomfortable. If you opt to pay to use the hot tub, the property manager comes over and stays as you use it. That rather spoils the moment ! The dishwasher in the guest house did not work. We were accused of leaving bath towels in the wrong houses. Totally untrue. No one took their towels out of their bathrooms. We were told that we left the place incredibly dirty with carpet stains everywhere. Also untrue. We actually went to great lengths to carry all the garbage and recycling out to the outdoor cans. The two houses together are listed as having a total of 6 bedrooms (12 occupants) plus futons for extra beds (extra occupants). We had a total of 10 people using beds and took our own pack-n-play for the little one. The owner is taking $__ out of our deposit because he said we told him there were 10 people. This was true. However, the 11th person was a toddler who did not use a bed. He threatened to take legal action because we accepted a package from UPS that he had delivered to himself at the house. As wonderful as this property is, I would not recommend renting anything this vacation property owner again.
This home was an absolutely wonderful place to spend a week relaxing, sight seeing and enjoying the spectacular view. Couldn't have found a more perfect spot. Quiet, private, secluded, and just plain wonderful.
With Dan's help, we found some wonderful out of the way places to eat great BBQ and pokie. Stopped at roadside fruit stands and took advantage of fresh fruit daily. Toured the whole island, went deep sea fishing, visited the Volcano National Park, and so much more. But always came home to our very relaxing and beautiful home.
Thank you Dan for sharing your home. We had a great time. Our grandson Konnor, as well as the rest of us, can't wait until we return.
